Lobos: unfortunately as much as Canada would like to help you, we won't be able to send you those. Of course, if you move to Canada I'll gladly help out.
I've heard Vancouver is very nice...but I'd have a hard time watching CFL football.
Anyway, I have a lengthy update on my clicking situation as well. My repair guy called Panasonic-USA yesterday and they finally confirmed the existence of a felt kit. Here's the catch - he said the kit is installed behind multiple panels in the TV and while the application of the felt is simple, getting to all of the stress points that are affected will require "7-8 hours" of work. He went on to say that they'll likely need to take the set back to the shop to install. He also wasn't sure of how critical this repair was, but speculated that the clicking due to expansion could potentially result in a static spark that would be bad for the set. Delivery of the kit could take 7-10 days, so I told him to call me when it arrives and we can schedule from there.
Meanwhile, I once again began to question how critical this really is - so I called Panasonic-USA to learn more. I told her I was calling in reference to cust serv#xxxxx and she was friendly enough and asked where I was calling from. I told her "Baltimore?" She meant to find out if I was a repair person, which in retrospect I should have told her I was. As soon as I told her I was the customer she declined to answer any questions regarding service of the set for legal reasons. Trying to take this in stride, I asked her if she knew of anyone I could speak with that wasn't under a gag order. She suggested the repair person...thus completing the loop of secrecy and uninformed speculation. What the !@#!@ kind of customer service is that? You'd think I told her I was investigating for Dateline NBC or something?
I didn't intend for this to be a Panasonic-USA bash session, but they're really not helping their cause very much. I'm glad that the fix exists, and my repair guy doesn't seem like such a bad chap, but all I want to know is can an expansion click cause long term damage to the set or not? I've got 10 days to decide and the NFL season is right around the corner....help me Panagurl...(or anyone else that isn't under a restraining order).
