Official Panasonic PX75U / PX77U Owners Thread *NO PRICE TALK* - Page 100

Hi Guys! I was looking for an answer in the search funcion but was not able to find it.. So I got the 77U tv 2 months ago, Just got it connected a week ago, running it on 0 picture settings and something weird happened yesterday while i was watching DISCOVERY HD. I`m watching the screen and this BLUE about 3 inch wide line pops out on the screen from top to bottom. Kind of like the pixels went bad.. I got scared, started switching channels but that line was just staying there. I turned off the tv. turned it back on and still the line. Figure maybe its the cable.. Turn on the dvd the line is here..!! I start freaking out, since my tv is brand new!. I come up to the tv, and touch the spot of the screen where the line showed up and it just dissapears. Kind of like a magic touch thing. I`ve been watching tv for a day now and it hasn't come back. Was wondering if its something i should worry about? OR is it something that happenes in plasmas? The line looked like somebody ADDED BLUE's to that part of screen... should i call Panasonic? Thanks a lot guys!

I am wondering if someone can tell me what the lowest profile mount people have been using with the PX75? I want the tv to hug the wall as close as possible in the location that I am considering mounting it.

Thanks !

All help would be welcomed. Thanks...

Break-In isn't absolutely necessary, but if you're like me, you just want to be sure you don't screw your new TV up. Zero settings are fine, you don't need to go below that.......You will notice some Image Retention from time to time, but don't worry, it will go away quickly (that's the main thing I had to get used to with Plasma, coming from a RP LCD)

Yes, after 100 hours or so, adjust the settings to your liking. I wouldn't recommend maximum contrast or anything though.

I just bought a Panny 42PX75U and a person at Panny told me that the tv's are already broken in at the factory by being run for 100 hours, so this break-in period is not really necessary.

I just bought a Panny 42PX75U and it has one dim pixel in zone A, but I can only see it with an all-solid color and from up close. With regular viewing I don't see it. I was told by Panasonic that with a dim pixel there is a chance that it will charge back into life after a few weeks or months of viewing. Is this possible? Does anyone have any experience with this?

I just got a new 50PX75U which replaced an LCD that broke after two months. I just have a couple of question. The LCD was 1080p but it was only a 42" and we sat about 10-11' from it so we now realize that at that distance 720p and 1080p don't make a difference. Thing is I have a PS3 so I was wondering how should I hook it up. It will be going through HDMI but I don't know if to just set the PS3 for 720p or do 1080p and let the tv downconvert.

I had a similar problem, except I had a GREEN vertical line, about 3" wide, just right of center. This problem showed itself the first day I turned it on. I called Panasonic CS, they were very helpful and we scheduled a service call to look at / fix the problem. The day before the service call, the line went away!!

I called the technician and he wanted to come look at it anyways. He mentioned it might be a loose or not completely seated cable/ribbon on one of the circuit boards. He came and replaced two of the three circuit boards (since the band had appeared between two of the boards and couldnt tell which board might have been "bad").

Well, he then went to power the TV back up and guess what... it wouldnt turn on. He couldnt figure out why it wouldnt power up and was concerned for another problem. His solution: take the TV back to the shop, where they supposedly discovered a power supply problem.

That was three days ago and I havent got my TV back (though I'm suppose to get it back this afternoon).

Moral of the story, IMHO... if the band has gone away, dont have a tech out to take your TV apart.

Did they provide you with a 'loaner' when they took your set for repair? I thought the new Panasonics came with "concierge" warranty that provides a temporary Plasma replacement should they need to remove your set....
Yes, last years 42" 720p model was provided as a loaner, its ok for a loaner, but i'm seriously missing my 50".

Have had my 42px75 for about a month now, and just thought I would say that it is a great tv. I was worried about burn-in and Image retention with the plasmas, but I have to say I have not seen it once. I play video games on it (no IR even after 2 hours of playing MOH), watch all my sports (Go Bucks!). For the price, it is the best display in my opinion. Also, want to thank everyone on this board for taking the time to answer questions, and even post their experiences with these tvs. Helped me out immensely when choosing.

Lewis: I used the monoprice lowprofile, non adjustable mount on my 50px77u. Part # 3610 on their site. Since it was extremely cheap, I expected a stamped sheetmetal part - what came out of the box was every bit as heavy duty as those I've seen in the retail outlets for +$$$. On my set, it just barely clears the HDMI cable end coming out of the TV, but I have no doubt that it can handle the weight load with ease.
Bill.

With Blu-Ray movies and games that support 1080p, send 1080p. We've been told that the TV converts any non-1080p material to 1080p before processing and then scales down to 768p, so sending the TV a 1080p signal should provide the best possible image quality.

There's probably more to this. I'm feeding 720P from a PC to one of the HDMI inputs and it shows as a window in a 1080 space, with black bars around the 720p window.

Is what you mean that the TV is basically showing you your 720p feed in a screen that is made for 1080p?

Didn't see this answered in any of the posts here. I have a 42PX77U. Is there any way to adjust the centering and overscan on this display? Played the HDNet display test pattern and it shows the centering is off and there is bit more overscan then I'd like to have. TIA!

Same issue here - need to align it to center. Its about 3" to the right. I assume this is caused by our display devices output?

Right. It is as if the HDMI port is set for 1080p.

Will try feeding 720p and 480p from the Blu-ray player and see what happens. Maybe the issue is PC-related.

I'm curious. Did any of you owners of this Panny plasma consider power consumption when deciding on your purchase?>

The specs on this 50 inch Panny tell me it draws a bulging stupendous tremendous 695 whopping watts. In comparson to some 50 inch LCD displays, which draw half that amount, it makes me pause as to which technology is the most affordable in the long run. I'd say I like the picture quality of the Panny plasma more than any LCD I saw at the store, but the watts, the watts, the watts.....

thanks

Where did you get that quote on power usage mine says 499 watts max at full white screen so normal would be much less.

So very sorry, I was looking today at the 50pz77u, which is the newer 1080i set. Which draws the big watts....

http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-e...00000000005702

Indeed, the 50px77u takes a paltry 499 watts.

http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-e...00000000005702

So apparently you REALLY pay for the extra resolution in retail price and power usage.
In general, these sets seem to draw more power than 50 inch LCDs I've been looking at and which seem to draw around 300 watts,,,,

So I guess my question is, did owners of these plasma sets discount the extra cost of operation to gain what to my eyes is better imaging? Or was it something else, like off axis viewing?
thanks

The TH-50PZ77U is 1080p 80 percent of the time the plasma will not use the max wattage and yes to both the better image and off axis viewing among others

Hi, just picked up the Costco version of the TH-50PX77U today. Ran the Cox Motorola DVR in via HDMI 1 and audio out to my older Bose surround sound using the audio out jacks. When I turn off the plasma's internal speakers, I can no longer use the volume control on the remote, I get a "speaker off" dialogue box. There has got to be a way to use the remote to control volume when you use external sound, isn't there?

I also tried changing the EZ Sync speaker setting to "Theater" but that doesn't do anything as I think it is only for Panasonic components.

BTW, the Bose has a RF control, so I can't "program" it as an "Aux" device.

What have others done?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Nope. Panasonic stupidly took away the Variable Audio Out feature from their plasmas back in 2005 and now it's either off or fixed, so the TV's remote cannot adjust the volume from a surround sound system connected to the Audio Output jacks. It sucks.

I use an MX-500 learning remote so i just set it up to control the receiver's volume, but to do that you'd have to get a learning remote that does both IR and RF.

This is a long enough thread so I'll be brief.

Hooked up my 50X75U two weeks ago. Ran breakin DVD for a couple of nights. No where near 100 hours. Just lost patient plus continued reading of this thread calmed my nerves on the issue.

I am running basic cable right now until D* comes out this Friday. The PQ is nothing special - until I hooked up my Panny sct-1050 HTiB.

I played Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc., SWIII and PotC II - wow - I'll never visit the movie theatre again. The PQ is remarkable. (and the sound which I talked about in a different area here)

Now - some of the issues I've seen on this thread.

Clicking - mine was assembled in Sept so no issue there.

SDE - I see it during the day if I start real close to the screen and move back. Otherwise non-issue from my chair (10')

IR - none whatsoever. I don't game but do watch a lot of ESPN and football in general.

Glare - the whole left wall from the TV is windows as well as a portion of the wall opposite the unit. If I close the blinds opposite the unit - no issues with glare. With them open and full sunlight shining thru? Same as my old CRT.

I'll report back after getting D* HD service and all I can say is this -

Enjoy your TV. Don't over analyse this.

How much overscan does your TV have? If it's 2% I wouldn't worry about it.

quick question: how long does it take your unit to come on after hitting power on the remote? On mine, there's a good ~7-10 seconds between the red power light coming on and the screen showing the picture. Is this normal?

thanks in advance.

I just picked up a TH-42X75U on Saturday and mine has approximately the same delay.
