"Original Album Classics"

I just picked-up a brand-new copy of Santana's debut title "Santana" on CD. This album has, I think, some of his best music ever.

This is an example of one of many popular re-mastered classic releases packaged as "Original Album Classics" (Columbia/Legacy), however produced by Sony BMG Music Entertainment.

This particular Santana title claims "24-bit digitally mastered". The audio quality is "okay" at best (as the original recording was done in 1969, and not the best- if you ask me).

Are these re-mastered titles such as this equal to SACD product quality of the same spec (ie. 24-bit)?

No. They are still are played back @ 16-bit PCM which is not "hirez".

SACDs are not 24-bit, btw; DVD-As are. SACD uses a completely different technology, DSD, which is very different from PCM and is actually 1-bit, with a sampling rate that is 64 times higher than redbook (44.1kHz) @ 2.8224Mhz.
