Ferrite Core?

Hi-

While not at all a complete novice in AV geekery, I am stumped.

I'm considering buying a Pioneer Pro-940HD plasma, was looking at the owner's manual online, and noted that one of the supplied accessories is a ferrite core.

Any help guiding me what to do with this and what it does would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Bill,
Ferrite Cores, and specifically ferrite beads and clamps are used to reduce rf noise. Sometimes they are placed on the AC power cords to cut down on rf that may cause interference on other pieces of equipment.

So, Assuming I buy the set, I should wrap this around the AC cord?
Does where it's wrapped matter?

Thanks again - very much!

Yes it does but without the proper equipment you wouldn't be able to measure it.
You can fairly easily play with location for the best result. I will say quite often they are placed at the end closest to the device.
Why are you getting it? Are you experiencing some sort of interference?

Generally, a snap on ferrite core is installed ~2" from the end of the cable that terminates @ the A/V device.

That ferrite core is actually supplied for use with the G-Link cable which is used to control a VCR for recording shows. It is used to help reduce/cancel interference when using that control cable. Unless you plan to use TVGOS (TV Guide On Screen) and a VCR, you should not need the FC.

BTW, the power cord comes with a ferrite bead already built in.

This is great info. Thank you! I'm very excited about picking this Pioneer set up.

Go for it! And when you do, post some pics of it for us in the Pio pics thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...&&#post9718950

Good Luck!
