The set has been performing quite well with no complaint via Dish into HDMI1.
Yesterday I was viewing a DVD via the Oppo to HDMI3, and after about 1 hour the picture started flashing in and out with considerable snow and staticky audio from TV. The audio from the Oppo continued clear and undisturbed. I initially switched the TV to HDMI1 and the Dish signal was clear. Switched back to HDMI3 and the distorted picture and sound remained. Then I stopped the DVD: snow and static continued via the Samsung. Turned the Oppo off and back on: still no improvement.
My final move after it appeared that neither the Oppo nor the associated HDMI cable was at fault, I turned off the Samsung. After only a moment's wait, I turned the Samsung back on: perfect picture and sound from the Oppo and DVD!
I believe that HDMI dropouts with these new Samsungs is not an entirely uncommon problem. The specific manifestation of the problem appears to vary somewhat from set to set. I believe my experience was very unambiguous (have others reported staticky audio along with dropout?).
A number of contributors to this thread have reported similar (if not exactly the same) problem to Samsung and have had a Samsung technician replace hardware with seemingly good results. However, this particular problem is quite unpredictable as to when and under what conditions it will reappear --- so, I do not know if it can be reported that a hardware upgrade does indeed solve the problem.
Reports from those who have had replacement hardware in place for a week or more would be greatly appreciated.
I had a similar problem, only happened once or twice ,,, that was when i had the green/pink flashes ,,, since Samsung replaced the main board ,,,i have had no problems ,,, its been about 3 weeks or more ,,, i had a 1008 board with the 1024 firmware update put in ,,, everything has been working fine ,,, i only wish i had gotten to 4661 , I have a 4061 ,, which is terrific ,,, i thought that would be big enough , i sit about 9-10 feet away. as for the person who was talking about how many HD channels , I have Time Warner Cable of NYC and they have about 15 HD channels , I'm glad I got a DVR so i record many HD movies and whatch them when nothing else is on ,,, good luck to all out there
