As far as not seeing a difference, I guess it would depend. I see a lot of interference on my screen. Especially when using my pc. I am more interested in the 11 ports with 3 separated banks than anything else....did you ever happen to experience the vacuum cleaner effect? Vacuuming while watching tv and seeing the lines go scrolling through the screen? Thats what power conditioning will cure. Any power related interference.

Waisted 350 dollars? Cant you just return it? And if you bought it online, why did you pay so much? Just wondering.

I did notice quite a bit of graininess on my SD channels, which is what I was hoping to improve. No power related interference now, so that coupled with the surge protection may make it worthwhile. I bought it from Vann's, because they are an "authorized" internet retailer, and I didn't want any issues with their "connected equipment protection warranty" which isn't valid if you purchase from the internet sites with the "cheaper" prices.

In other news, I have no audio over HDMI. I'm using a Belkin 12 ft Ferrite Core Cable connected over HDMI 1 to a Brighthouse HD Box. I've tested HDMI 1/2/3 and no luck. Works fine over Component.

If anybody has any suggestions or wants to share pain, by all means lemme know

My CoA is this:
1) Disconnect all inputs, leaving just the HDMI.
2) Test across HDMI 1/2/3.
3) Kick and scream until Samsung comes to my house with the newest board/firmware

I'll try to get to this tonight -- unfortunately this will interrupt my girlfriend's Whose Wedding Is It Anyway Marathon -- figures the day I get a new toy she won't even let me play with it :P

I'll post all convos with Samsung. Hopefully I won't get connected to Joe Douche like some of you guys on the boards. :X

Besides HDMI, my first impressions of the TV -- WOW. I was viewing Planet Earth and was blown away. I tried the first batch of settings in the Calibration thread and found them to be too dark/dull. If anyone here could point me to some brighter settings, that'd be awesome -- otherwise I'll go bug the people in the Cal thread for more info.

I think that the HDMI cable which came with my Oppo 981 was the ferrite type (I certainly did not buy a cable like this, so it must be the one!).

In any case, this is the only anomaly which I experience with the Oppo (in HDMI 2. HDMI 1 connected to D* HR20 has been working like a charm):

When trying to change and set the Oppo output to say: 480P, 720P, 1080i or 1080P; I get a brief (a couple of seconds in duration) flash on the screen where the whole screen goes snowy with a dash of pinkish/greenish accent, before the blue Oppo screen appears. However, I have watched really long arse movies with this Oppo, such as: Gangs of NY, The Departed, Gladiator and no issues with drop outs during these movies. Let us not forget that I have the medium-old arrangement of 1016/1004 on my 4665.

As I now, I am being just too lazy to switch that ferrite cable to a none-ferrite to see if that resolves the anomaly as described above.

Question for you new(past weeks) Oppo owners.....with the price of the hd dvd players from toshiba at 299 now, why not get it instead? Its not much more, has great upscaling, and hd dvd too. I owned an Oppo but sold it once hd dvd came out.
