I have the black screen problem again. Third time. Sound is OK.

The first 2 times it started working next day, but I had a service call anyway. First service call they replaced the panel. A few months later it happened again. Second service call they replaced the main board plus power supply.

Two weeks later it happened again. This time it did not start working next day. I just set up another service call but I suspect it is time to request a replacement. Samsung says there have to be 3 unsuccessful service calls before a replacement set can be arranged. Let's see what happens.

Yes, it has been very humid here yesterday and today. Maybe that is causing the problem. But, I don't have an air conditioner in the room. In any case, humidity failure is not a good thing in a TV.

I miss my old Panasonic CRT TV. I used it constantly for 7 years and never had any problem with it. The tech guy said these LCDs are "built differently" than CRTs. Yeah, built CHEAP.

So far I haven't had a problem with the TV since the new panel was installed.

Hi,

I have a LNT5265F that is about 6 months old. Every once and a while (maybe once a week) there is a ticking that will start playing out of the speakers. It can be on AV1, HDMI, or Component1 and it still makes the clicking noise. The sound can go up or down and it still makes the noises. It happens at random and is definately not always there. We generally just wait and see if it goes away, its not that loud but I know it shouldn't be doing this.

Has anyone else had this issue with the speakers? (I'm guessing its the speakers) Would it be something with the firmware? I'm unsure how to check what software or motherboard we have in the unit.

We don't really have a 'set-up' at the moment since its just the TV + cable box + dvd player. No outside speakers.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks!

I have 3 and never had a "ticking sound".

I have a Samsung LN-T4665F. I purchased it from Amazon in June of 07.

A couple weeks ago I went to turn it on and I heard a short buzz. The screen gave a dim glow for about a second then I got sound but no picture. I checked every source, no menus, just sound. I put a light up to the screen and saw that the picture was there but there was no backlight.

I called Samsung and they told me they would cover the repair. Huge sigh of relief... Then another Samsung rep informed me that my warranty expired EXACTLY 7 days before the TV crapped out. They set me up with the local service center and said good luck with that.

The next day the TV worked! I cancel my repair visit because money is tight and the repair guy said it would be hundreds of dollars to fix.

4 days ago I got sound but no picture again. I did some research and found that many people are having the exact same problem with these LN-TXXXXF TVs. I call the repair guy and he says it is a common problem and that it's either a power supply or panel issue. He said if it's the power supply I'd be looking at $180 for labor and the visit PLUS the cost of the parts. He then said if it's a panel issue that he wouldn't recommend fixing it because the cost of repairs would be huge. Almost as much as buying a new TV he said. Then I asked him if his work is guaranteed and if he would repair it if it crapped out again in a few months. He gave me the runaround. So I asked him again. He didn't answer.

Ok so apparently if I spend over a thousand dollars on repairs there is no guarantee that I will have a working TV 6 months from now.

I decide to give Samsung another call because I fear the whole panel may need to be replaced. I don't think its fair spending $2,300 for a TV that lasts only 15 months. Let alone having to spend an additional $1,300+ to replace a faulty panel.

After being put on hold for 15 minutes while I was being transferred to executive customer service" my call got disconnected. I call back, another 15 minutes on hold, another disconnected call. I call back again. This time after a 20 minute wait I get "executive customer service" on the line. I explain my situation. She tells me there is nothing she can do. I ask her if she thinks it's acceptable that I paid $2,300 for a TV that lasted only 15 months only to be told "Sorry, you're warranty expired 7 days ago." She hung up on me.

I call back and ask to be connected to "executive customer service" one more time. After another 20 minutes I get connected to the same woman. I ask to speak to a supervisor. She says none are available. I tell her that I'll wait for one. After 5 minutes she asks me if I would like to continue waiting because she still can't find a supervisor. I tell her I'll wait. After another 15 minutes she tells me there is no supervisor available. I ask her who's watching all the employees? She tells me that all the supervisors went home for the evening. I say how convenient and hang up on her.

I will never buy another Samsung product. I will advise others to do the same. I have never experienced this kind of "customer service" in my life. They do not stand by their products or treat the customer with respect. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I know this is a common problem that Samsung is aware of but they don't care because all of the customers who purchased these things are on the last days of their warranty.

Thanks to this forum I know I'm not alone. Following the advice of forum members I contacted my credit card company. They are providing me with an extra 1 year protection on my purchase. I just hope my claim goes through with them. If it does I'll have an extra year's worth of free repairs with the credit card company's authorized repair people.

PS - The humidity theory might be true. We didn't have the AC on both times the TV refused to turn on. It wasn't hot out just a little humid.

i have a Samsung 4665F that i purchased a little over a year ago. it is connected via monoprice hdmi cable to a satellite dvr. last Friday and Saturday, i noticed a faint, variable high-pitched "whistle" coming from the tv. it seems to last, oh, maybe a couple of minutes, but, it is rather annoying (in fact, it has appeared this am, too). it doesn't matter what channel or source the tv is tuned to. and, you never know when it will act up. then, on Sunday am and Monday am, i noticed a faint, rather deep "hum" coming from the tv. the "hum" will last a few minutes and fade away. btw, the day that one of these two occurances appear, it seems to happen just once and gets it out of its system.

i really am no expert on electronics, so, i have no idea what might be causing this occurance.

might anyone be able to shed any light on my dilemma?

oh, not sure this makes any difference, but, the days the "humming" appeared i did not hear any faint "whistling"---the days the "whistling" appeared i have not heard any "hum". of course, this is all during viewing hours.

thanks in advance!

Sounds like y'all are having a similar problem that I am with my 4661F
It started of with a kind of humming sound coming from the TV speakers
Now it is getting louder and is like a full buzzing sound
I have already called Samsung to come and have the problem fixed
BTW, does anyone know of a good company to get an extended warranty from?
My warranty with Samsung will run out in a couple of months

My warranty is set to expire on my LN-T4665F soon and Samsung sent me a letter with an option to extend my warranty through them. You will probably get a letter of the same type soon. Have you registered your product with Samsung?

Did anyone here had similar problem?

I wonder if this problem might be caused by a ground loop.

Yes, I am registered with Samsung.
My warranty expires in November.
Should I have received this letter by now?

What is that and why would it cause this problem?
BTW, the guy from Samsung came by yesterday.
He tried convincing me that there was no problem with the speakers, but I insisted that there was.
He finally agreed to order new speakers.

Purchased the 5265F in April 2007, had the board switch out in July '07 due to the green flashing. Recently I noticed that when I turn the TV on I get this blue static interference image on the screen. It seems to lay over the image on every channel and my other HDMI input. I have the TV hooked up via HDMI which I already changed once. The blue image only occurs on occasion when I turn the TV on and then goes away after a few minutes. I have the TV plugged into a surge protector. Could this be the issue? Please see the attached pictures. Anyone have seen this happen?

I bought mine at Sears so went with their plan, which is comprehensive. Why? Well, my first HDTV was a rear projection TV, and I got a 3 year plan, which included a yearly "tune up" which included recalibrating the lamps. Sold that TV before the 3 years (transferred the plan too.) My next HDTV was a Philips Plasma, and I did NOT buy the plan. TV died 14 months later. So I did the math and decided this TV needs to last me at least 5 years. If it dies, Sears will either fix it or give me a suitable replacement.

I'm not sure. My letter was definitely an unexpected surprise. I bought the TV in July of last year but they extended my 1 year warranty since I had so many problems with this TV (3 board replacements before the HDMI handshake issues were finally resolved). I believe you should be receiving a letter soon, but don't hold me to it.

Did this happen immediately after the board was replaced, or did it take time to develop this problem? Did it happen at all before the board replacement?
This started to happen about 2 months ago a year after the board replacement. It never showed up before the replacement. Like I said it doesn't happen all the time and when it does it lasts a few secs to mins and then goes away and never comes back until I turn the TV on again. I have a call into Tech 2 customer service.

That is really interesting. Good luck with your problem. If you wouldn't mind, will you post updates when you get your problem resolved? I'm pretty interested to see what the answer is to this problem and I guarantee you someone else will have it happen to them later on down the line, so it'll be good info to have in the forum.

Again, good luck!

so, i've had a 4065f since january and haven't had any problems until recently. now, if the tv has been on for an extended period of time and i bring up any of the tv's on-screen menus (volume, source, the "searching for signals" menu that displays after turning off a device) it leaves a line of what i am pretty sure are stuck pixels - it isn't a solid line, but a kind of broken straight line (i attached some pictures). it goes away if i turn the set off and turn it back on.

i had a service guy out this week. for whatever reason, i couldn't reproduce the problem while he was here, and he didn't believe me that it was happening (saying he's never seen this problem with these sets before).

it's under warranty, and i'm having them come back out now that i have pictures, but i'm just wondering whether anybody else has had this problem? i'd like to be able to show him that i'm not the only one...
if so, is there a quick fix?
thanks!

Does anyone know if it's possible to use a source on this tv that doesn't have any video. I want to hear my airport express hooked up to my reciever through my tv as I currently don't have my speakers, but the tv only shows that there is no signal, although when I plug in something via composite video the sound starts working.

Damn, all these posts about peoples TV's failing is freaking me out haha. I have a 4665 that I purchased back in January 08 and it's been rock solid the entire time. I have never updated the firmware and it has been calibrated using those settings from the original owners thread post #1500 or w/e. I love the TV but for many months now I feel that it's too small. So I've been wanting to upgrade but never acted on it because the TV has performed flawlessly. But after reading all these horror stories of the TV being flaky after a year+, I think I'll try to sell it while I'll can still get some decent money for it. And pick up a 67" DLP(HL67A750) or something along those lines. The TV has been great but I'm jumping ship!! haha

Got the 4065F in my bedroom as a TV / computer monitor and it's certainly doing the job. (At the lowest levels of backlighting, which I prefer for the computer, it is a bit darker on the left side.) Hope it doesn't break after a year...

Got an older 67" DLP in the main room. Awesome price/performance there...

Hi I own a Haier 27 inch Flat screen
Model: HFT27R11
Serial # 09045020c9520030 25A0396

I heard a thump thump thump out of the speakers and looked up and the screen was off but the power light was flashing and with every flash the thump noise out of the speaker. I took the back off and discovered that there is a tellow transformer coil with these markings "BCK-130-01" on the top of it. It ticks in beat too. Same time the light and speakers are thumping and blinking.

Any advice?

No offense, but this is a SAMSUNG thread
Unless Haier is made by Samsung, you will probably want to ask your question somewhere else

Just to be fair, the PQ on my 1 year+ 4661 is flawless
Nothing wrong in that department at all
It's the speakers that are starting to act up a little
And I've actually noticed in the past week or so that it hasn't acted up at all
Don't be scared into not buying these models of LCD's because of a few problems posted on here
I'm sure there are tons of people out there enjoying their TV's right now who just don't post on here
In general on this board, you will only hear from the people having problems with their sets

I think i may be having a problem with my 4665F. It turns off sometimes but the blue light would still be on and the only way to get it to turn back on is to unplug it for a minute and to plug it back in. Once i plug it back in, it turns on by itself.

Is there an easy fix for this or do i have to call Samsung, i'm not under warranty anymore btw.

I've had the 4665 for a year with no problems. However, I recently got the AS-720 receiver and I'm having a lot of handshaking issues with HDMI. Do you guys think I should upgrade the TV's firmware or should I just deal with the occasional handshake issues?

Our cat likes to sit on the TV unit and watch TV sometimes. He never touches the screen or anything. But last week she had a cold and sneezed on the screen multiple times. I cant see anything on bright scenes, but on pure black, I can see a few specks here and there...

How do I clean the screen? The shammy that comes with the TV is just for the cabinet right? I have heard of using isopropyl alcohol mixed with distilled water?

I use ScreenClean or any other similar product that is sold for cleaning laptop LCD screens. You could also buy MONSTER SCREEN CLEANER at Best Buy if you want to overpay :P

Use anything made for LCD screens. Never use Windex, etc. I'd never use any homebrew water mixture
