Haven't heard back from anyone on my post above #19007 and could really use some help.

The repair company is coming out on Wednesday. The problem seems to have corrected itself so I am am concerned that I will not be able to duplicate and thus they will tell me to ignore this issue when there is only about two weeks left on my warranty. The only thing I am doing differently is that I have changed the audio from my digital cable box away from HDMI and am running an optical cable straight to receiver. Otherwise no change. When the repair company shows up any advice for me:

1) Should I insist on a firmware upgrade? Running 1032 right now.
2) Does anyone know why the screen would go all green and then randomly change color - see pictures above.
3) Should I request they take the back off and look for blown transistors or check anything else?
4) If they can't duplicate, can I ask for some kind of extended protection.

Again any thoughts from anyone would be appreciated on this. When I had this problem last year, it was a random problem that was fixed when they changed the mother board. Thanks to all for the great posts!

At the 2 yr mark and add me to the power board capacitor failure list. Tech coming in the am. I have 5 yr warranty with frys. Are the faulty capacitors on the power board itself? If so won't a replacement fix it? Are the capasitors elsewhere? Need to replace both if so? It's a 4065.
Tech replaced 4 capasitors on the power board and tv is all good again. I made sure to watch carefully in case I need to replace again down the road once warranty expires.

Update to my post from September:

Repair order was for a new panel was over $2000 including parts, labor and sales tax. Ouch! With tv being 18 mo. old, no luck being under warranty but filed a claim with my visa card for their purchase protection and they reimbursed all but the sales tax to pay to get it fixed or replaced. Will look for a new tv. Repairman had good things to say about Samsung, but having 2 problems with this tv in 18 months gives me pause. We'll see.

He said he's had mixed results, so we'll try, though I'm not expecting much. I have filed a claim with my visa company as I purchased it with my visa and they extend the warranty an extra year. Hopefully that will work as I'm sure the screen will be close to the price of a new tv.

Repairman said it was either a loose wire, or the panel. When he came, he flexed the panel and no change, so said the panel is starting to fail. Needless to say, am a bit disappointed in this as I had an audio problem while still under warranty and now this.

Rbangs35-sounds similar to my problem. Hope not.

Hi all --

I have had this TV set for a year and a half, and I've never been able to get a picture when using HDMI cables. I am able to get audio fine with HDMI. With Component cables, the picture and audio is fine.

The only piece I had for awhile to test with was a Comcast STB. Upon connecting the the STB to the TV via HDMI, I would see the picture for a second or two before I got an all green screen. Every time. Sound worked fine, but no picture. I was never really sure if the problem was with the STB or the TV, so I picked up a blu-ray player to test it out with. Similar problem, except no green screen. Instead, it just shows "mode not supported" when I connect the TV to the blu-ray player via HDMI. Again, sound works fine.

Is it possible this is something that I have configured wrong on the TV?

The model is LNT-4061F.

Also, like the STB, the new blu-ray player works fine with component cables. Is there a big difference in picture quality between HDMI and component when using a 1080p source like a blu-ray player?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me. I am about to go insane with this!!

Andrew

I have a two year old Samsung LN-T4661F. Just recently, at start up it sometimes gets 3 faint horizontal lines across the screen and the screen is somewhat darker than normal especially on the left side. If I power on and off several times it usually corrects itself. Anyone have a similar experience or solution?
LNT-4061F. Just at 2 years old. Also experiencing the problems with it powering on which sounds like it is due bad capacitors. I guess I'll open it up tomorrow to take a look.

My LN-T4661F 46" is experiencing the clicking power cycles when it's first turned on. After reading many websites, I've come to the conclusion I need to either replace the IP Board (BN44-00168B) or unsolder, remove old capacitors and solder on new ones. I have experience soldering. May someone please tell me which capacitor to buy, as I uncertain. What voltages and uf/mfd should I get? I will be replacing them all. As of now, I am seeing 5 10v 1000uf, and 2 2000uf on different webpages.

Well add me to the list of power supply problems... It took a few hours for it to come on right the other day, so i'm just gonna leave it on until i figure out what to do.I guess i can try taking the back off and finding the board...If capacitors on the board were bad, would it even power up after some time like mine does?? Thx
post #19030 of 19590
Yep, I'm on the list now too. My TV will go through 2-3 power cycles before it powers up, but when its on everything is fine. Time to invoke my 5 year Sears extended plan!
Wow what a snowball effect regarding this power issue. Takes about 10 minutes to get my unit powered on. Guess I need to find warranty on this bad boy.
my solution = NEVER TURN TV OFF!

I have a 16 month old LNT4661f.

I opened my tv up due to long startup times and occasional magenta/pink dots all over the screen on startup. (workaround: turn it off, turn it on again)
Of course, the tv works perfectly, once you get a good startup.

I opened it up, and here's what I found:

So those three capacitors (two popped, one just bulging really bad) need replacing.

So far, I bought a 40watt Weller soldering iron and a desoldering pump on amazon. Total cost: $21.00.

Then, I went to digikey.com and bought three capacitors. Based on someone's prior post on this forum, I purchased the KZE series capacitors. They're digikey part # 565-1646-ND (enter that into their search bar and they'll come up).

They were 45 cents each, plus $1.90 for first class USPS postage (arrived 2 days later).

So far, my total is $25 including tools. Tomorrow morning, my TV will go under the soldering iron.

Samsung, if you're reading this, I convinced a coworker to buy a 52 inch Samsung LCD screen about a year ago (talked him out of Sony), and I've been working on my father in law for a long time, and he said he was getting one for himself for Christmas.
I don't know what to think about Samsung. I recognize that Samsung doesn't manufacture the capacitors, but it'd be a lot easier to continue to brag to all of my friends about Samsung if they would simply stand behind the product.
I can't say that I will never buy a samsung again, because the picture is absolutely stunning. But it won't be automatic, like it would have been if my TV would have lasted more than just a few months beyond the warranty.
In round 1, I was beat. The tv before my capacitor swap attempt would cycle around 4-5 times before turning on. After I messed around, it cycled endlessly.

In round 2, I won. I resoldered the capacitors and found some stray solder from my attempts to tin the soldering iron. After removing that, works like a charm, starting up on the first cycle.

So two minor burns, a couple hours, and about $30 later, my TV is just like new. Only with capacitors that I can count on.

Funny stuff... one of the old popped capacitors started boiling the electrolytic fluid out while I was desoldering it.

So the tip of the day is to not put the TV completely back together until you're sure it will turn on. I was so ticked when it didn't work after I spent all that time screwing it back together.

I have to same board, same TV, except the cm804 cap isn't buldged or leaking. I replaced all 3 anyway. It was an easy enough replacement, and now everything is working fine. Seems only the Sanwa 10v 1000uF are faulty, and a research shows this cap has been discontinued and many people having problems with it on other TV brands, too.
Wow this was very informative. I have the LNT-4665f I've had it for about 2 years and 4 months. I suspect this will happen to me soon, but now I have a plan of attack to fix this issue. :^) Thanks.

I am also having an issue with my LN-T4665F. I have had it for about 18months. All of a sudden the picture has gone bad, to where it has sort of a "mini_blind" effect with vertical lines. The picture is unwatchable at first, but after it is on for 30 -60minutes, you can almost see what is going on.

I have had no problems with the Power on, but I am wondering if anyone has had a similar issue that they have fixed via capacitor replacement? it seems most people have the Power on issue and a picture issue.

I am going to look when i get home to see if i have bad cap, but have not been able to tell if the capacitor issue only affects power on or if it also affects the way the image is displayed.

Thanks,
Jon

I finally pulled the switch on my Sears protection plan, as the startup issues are just bothering me :-) Sears is shipping me the part (which I'm certain I could install myself) but of course I have to call one of their techs for an appointment once I get the part, eh, no big deal, they should do the labor anynow :P

Point is, they said Samsung has bulletins out on these - "power supply circuit board." I asked the tech on the phone about the capacitors and he confirmed the issue. Apparently its just easier for them to swap out the whole board instead of taking the time to solder on new capacitors.

Will update once the work is done.

I got my 4661 at BB back in 2007. We have had the main board replaced twice and another part replaced and thats after the 4061 was replaced. The capacitors used are 10v in the TV's which clearly is not strong enough. I don't see why Samsung just doesn't put 16v or higher capacitors in their main board and then that will most likely solve the problem. One of the managers at BB even told me that he is having the on and off problem with his 4665. We are getting a replacement, but we could only get so much credit towards another TV. We bought the Samsung 4661 for around $2400, but we could not use dollar for dollar since the 4661 is an older model now. So, we upgraded to the Samsung LN 52 750B. Hopefully the 3rd times the charm on a Samsung. If not, we are through with them. Hopefully with Samsun'gs 7 series the capacitors are better.

One good thing about the Sears plan is, if I have 3 service issues with the same equipment over the 5 years, it automatically kicks in a replacement clause - kind of like a lemon law. They'll then replace the TV with anything of equal size they have in current inventory. Which definitely means an upgrade! But I don't want to go through this 3 times, hehe.

As much as I love electronic things, I really do hate them ... no matter what brand, stuff just goes wrong. And being in IT fixing computers daily, I really want to go home and have my crap work. Blah!

My LN t4061 powers itself on after a power outage. Is there a setting to turn this off. I've been woken up a few times, hearing the tv running. This is only after a power outage as the clocks are flashing on various appliances. I already have a UPS hoooked up.
Ok.. i have read hundreds of threads here, but none seem to fix my problem.. I bought the LN-T4665F used.. When I first brought it home, it worked great.. Then one day the TV just shut off... I smelled something burnt so I unplugged it right away.. I looked up the model and I found this forum. Now I took the PS Board out and found that both the 1000uf capacitors have already been changed and they were fine. but, the two big 150uf 450wv capacitors in the middle were seriously buldging like a balloon.. The also smelled like they fried. I ordered 2 new ones from digi key and put them in now the tv does nothing. Whith the burnt out capacitors, the red light came on and it sounded like it was trying to come on, now that I put new ones in, I cant even get the red standby light. After further inspection of my board, I found another Power NTC Thermistor fried too. What i dont understand is when i had the 150uf's fried, I had some kind of power.. now i have nothing.. also, how to you check the continuity on ceramic fuses?? well...I ordered a new PS board online and am waiting on that to come in, but in the mean time, I would like to fix the one I have.. anyone have any ideas? at this point, i'm willing to try anything... I will try to upload pictures..

Where did you order a replacement power board? I may do this in stead of replacing individual components. I hope the new PS broad fixes your issue the image on the 4665F is awesome. :^)

Yep, sometimes that's the case but you know where that old board goes don't you? I'd venture a guess it goes back in the repair line to have faulty capacitors replaced and then sent back out into the field for replacement in situations like yours. My tech just went ahead and replaced my bad caps with a larger size as he said one of the reasons for so many failures is that Samsung was using the bare minimum value in their boards and after time were over stressed. Glad to hear you were able to get yours working again. This is definitely a case where Samsung should extend the warranty for replacement as it's an obvious flaw in their system.

Ebay.... I searched for parts, but i usually search for part numbers miss listed, so you know they've been there a while, cause nobody can find them.. an example.. instead of searching for "SAMSUNG IP-301135A" , i searched for "SAMSUNG 1P-301135A".. found people selling them for around $129.. dont buy that, send them an offer for $65, if they decline.. send a second offer for $75.. It worked for me..
Here are some pics of the board I received today ... the geek in me wants to put it in myself, but I must wait for Tuesday to have the tech do it ... cause I want my extended warranty to remain intact :-)

Maybe someone can tell if there are beefier capacitors on it. I don't know much about actual electronics.

Hello all - PLEASE HELP,

I own a 46" samsung lcd tv (LN-T4661F) which just turned 20 months old. Til now, it was watched very infrequently (maybe 6 hrs per week). When powered on, it functions normally for about ten minutes before the picture goes black, but continues with the program's audio. Changing source/powering the set off and back on again does not rectify the issue, black screen with sound continues. I uplugged the television from the power outlet overnight, plugged it in and powered it on the next day, when it again functioned correctly for 25 minutes before it again reverted to black screen with sound. Additionally, I can immediately power the tv off and back on again, and the picture will again come back for a minutes before again going to black screen with audio.

As the tv is out of warranty, Samsung was not willing to do anything nor would they admit to this being a known issue despite the multitude of people reporting/blogging about their same experiences. They say to call tv repair and provided me with contact info to their samsung authorized repair center.

I have done much reading and learned that faulty capacitors have proven to be the cause in many cases of other LCD Samsung televisions.

Although the capacitors appeared fine, we changed the the five commonly found to be the issue for others. Unfortunately, our problem remains, power the tv on, we get picture and sound for 10 - 20 minutes before the picture goes black and sound continues.

Called the samsung certified repair guy who thinks that if it was a power board issue, the tv would likely not come on with picture at all, he seemed to think it may be related to an inverter issue. He quoted the costs associated with the repair would amount to $240 labor (according to him was a $20 discount, since Samsung would pay him $260 for in warranty repair labor) plus the cost of the parts ($100 per inverter). I scheduled a pickup with him, which was to take place either Monday or Wednesday of last week, however, he 'no-showed' either day, nor called to advise/reschedule.

Can anyone offer any advice of which way I should go, not really interested in spending alot of $ to repair the tv which will still be substandard, when I can purchase a new, better quality tv for not much more. I can order an ip board for approx $120, but am reluctant to throw good money after bad if in fact the board is not the problem.

Hi,

My LNT5265FX is a little less than 2 years old and has lots of dead pixels (40 or so). Obviously, this happened to me after the manufacturer's warranty has expired long time ago.
Luckly, I found out that master card duplicates manufacturer's warranty if purchased by the master card.
Therefore, I still have a chance to fix this without any cost.
However, master card requires the original warranty card which I don't have anymore with me.
I found the warranty statement at Samsung's support website and plan to file the claim with it but they might ask for the original.
Is there anyone who has this experience or the original warranty card?
If you can provide with me the xerox copy that might work.

Thanks,
Terry
