I've got a tech coming next Tuesday to replace my main board and update the firmware. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this one. If that doesn't fix it, I'll be returning my 4665.
All of you are making me worried saying that your new mainboards are 1005 since mine reads 1008 (I've tripled checked it). I've got three more hours on the PS3 without a flash. I did notice that I had a cloud in the lower right corner that only showed up on really dark scenes, but I dampened the blue cloth that came with the set (I would not recommend using any cloth dry as that sounds like a recipe for scratches to me) and massaged the cloud away. The only other problem I have is that sometimes the set's speakers will make a loud pop when the PS3 moves to or from the home screen. Since I almost never use the internal speakers, I couldn't care less.

The Goodfellas Bluray I ordered is taking its sweet time getting here; I also put a NIN Bluray in my Netflix queue. At least one of them should be here by the end of the week so I can make a lengthy test. Of course, if there was an actual game on the PS3 that I wanted to play instead of just the GTHD demo, I wouldn't have to wait.

I believe Norse had a set with the 1005 mainboard and his firmware date was Mar 20, 2007 - so hopefully anything after that is HDMI trouble-free. According to utee05 purchases made as of May 1 maybe good from Amzn. By the way utee what size did you get of the 61F series?

If Samsung would be sensitive to customer satisfaction they would post something on the website and offer to replace the boards on pre-Mar 20 TVs. But of course that is not going to happen, so we either call in for a service call or exchange the set if still within 30-day period.

I got the 4661 from amazon. I still need to test out the ps3 on my system. i'm hoping to borrow a friends over the weekend to try it out.

This thread isnt very long so its getting kind of old answering the same questions over and over again. READ a little before posting.

The serial number on the 4665F that I returned began with AJ.

I agree; I hope people read the instructions actually provided with the cloth and dampen it slightly vs. using a dry cloth.

I need help connecting my laptop to 4661, I did get a DVI - HDMI cable and I get the video np on the screen, but anyone knows how to also push the audio as well ? my laptop has a stereo out for headphone, am I supposed to get a 3.5 splitter to RCA ? I was planning to use the side of the TV (Hdmi3 panel for the connectivity)

Thanks,
-H

you have to use hdmi 1 as it has audio ins for people using dvi-hdmi cables.

They're just finishing testing on it to make sure the HDMI issues are gone, and then it will be released to the public. If all goes well, the firmware might be complete within the next few days!

So, to recap:

1.) It's a SOFTWARE issue.

2.) Samsung ARE aware of it.

3.) A firmware update WILL be available, and *should* be within the next week.

Yay!!

So that throws a wrench in the hardware revision theory!

ARG! Well, I just talked to Samsung and relayed this information, asking if I should go ahead with my scheduled main board swap for my 4665F... I was put on hold for about 10 minutes, and then the Samsung rep came back and said, he had contacted the corportate level and there is no such firmware scheduled. He continued to say, the first thing Samsung would do would be to send a bulletin to all service centers if this was the case, and that this is misinformation on the web. I was told by him to continue with my scheduled repair as there is no firmware coming out to address my HDMI issues... I asked are you 100% certain, and he said yes, corporate level confirmed this.

I can't see why Samsung would tell you one thing and me another... Someone is obviously wrong, although, you have a 6461 and I a 4665.

I hope this firmware (which I believe is coming) is out before the tech comes to swap my main board and that it works for my 4665F...

As it seems like you've already discovered, the DVI-HDMI connection will not send sound, so I think the only option you have is a 1/8" to RCA cable for sound (connect your DVI-HDMI cable to in HDMI 1 of the TV since it has audio inputs as well)

Known issue with PS3. It pops like that on receivers as well.

Wow! Seeing Samsung actually make these firmware updates accessible to the public (vs. techs only) would be very encouraging not only for this line but for others to come.

I have to say, most of the people at Samsung are complete dolts. I say that with no love in my heart at all. The first person I spoke to in Tier 1 told me that my set only accepts 720p which is why I was getting pink/green flashes.

I got put on hold for about 10 minutes while the gentleman in Tier 2 personally spoke to someone in engineering who is actually working on this firmware. If the firmware isn't available yet, which it is not, then why would service centers even know about it? And corporate? What the heck do they have to do with anything?

Anyway, I'd rather wait and plug a USB drive into the side of my TV than have my TV's guts ripped out.

Indeed. The guy in Tier 2 said it will be a) a USB flash drive by mail, or b) a technician to the house. I hope it's a).
I've come to the conclusion that the issues surrounding the LN-T series will not get fixed for a while, so I'm going to pass up on this series and wait for the 71's or 81's or go for the XBR3/4.

Thank you everybody who has posted on this and the previous threads, it is greatly valued. Your posts have helped me in my decision.

I hope you all get your issues resolved.

Cheers!

c) Downloadable from website accessible to registered users.

Oh well, baby steps

Nothing to worry about - just means that you have the newest mainboard yet! Was this a replacement or store bought set?

I know, ditto! This is my concern too and why I called Samsung after reading your post... BLAH, how is a person supposed to get answers?!

You have to use HDMI 1 since it has corresponding audio inputs, and yes you need an adaptor to the RCA style inputs.

Question - I followed the directions on the first post but I can't get my software and HW rev. Am I missing something?
No HDMI devices to test but my screen has no clouding and no pillars. Loading up my 360 onto it is like a revelation from God.

I modified the first post somewhat to explain the firmware check a little more clearly in the final stages. Try my new instructions.

Hi all, first time poster here and 3-thread lurker.

I just picked up the LNT4661 on Amazon May 15th. If I have the 1008 board and don't see HDMI handshake issues, we may be able to isolate the problem to pre-1008 boards. I'll post my firmware/board # when it gets here.

WilliamG, your firmware convo with the Samsung tech made me mess myself. Here's to hoping your tech was right, and Topsy's tier 1 r-tard/tier 2 tech were misinformed :X

Keep us posted!

Not interested in the 360 elite then? I don't understand Sony loyalty sometimes...

I think I may hold off a little longer on this television...once it's been confirmed the Amazon TVs are shipping with 1008 boards.

If this new board (1008) corrects the handshake issue i will seriously re-consider getting an LN-T for sure... *crosses fingers*

**UPDATE**

I don't even know anymore. I just keep getting the run around from Samsung.

I called back to find out what the heck is going on because of conflicting reports, and Tier 2 told me they have no evidence of any firmware coming out in a few days, and that I shouldn't believe what people say on messageboards . I asked them if I was lied to before when the Tier 2 support guy told me there was one, and the Tier 2 guy replied, "Yes."

I said to him, "Excuse me? Are you saying I was lied to?" and the gentleman said, again, "yes."

Just...wow.

Just...wow.

I'm so seriously considering returning this TV it's a joke. Not because of the TV itself (though it's really annoying me with its issues), but because there's such a racket going on in Samsung's support group. Something going on there HAS to be illegal.

Anyway, I get off the phone, and decide to call back and speak to someone else, to see if there's any other story I'll get. I get through to Tier 2, and this guy (I have all their names now if ever I get called on it) put me on hold and spoke to his supervisor who told him that there's a firmware update being worked on. I then asked the Tier 2 guy to speak to his supervisor personally. Tier 2 guy tells me that the supervisor is about to leave for the evening. I say I'd like to speak to him. Tier 2 guy puts me on hold and comes back and tells me the supervisor is on the phone. I tell Tier 2 guy I'll hold till supervisor is done on the phone. Tier 2 guy says supervisor will be going home straight afterwards.

What is this BS? Seriously!

I didn't get to speak to anyone, and the Tier 2 guy got pretty rough with me. He said, "It ends here. What I'm telling you is the final word."

Yeah. Right. I can call back and get a whole set of different words.

It's a replacement board for the flashes; I'm worried that it's actually a 1005, but it's incorrectly telling me it's 1008. But, if it doesn't have any serious problems, I guess I shouldn't care either way.

I cant's afford an elite at the moment, but there aren't any games on that system that I really want to play yet either (but I believe there will be before the PS3). A cheap Bluray player is why I went with the PS3 first. Of the new consoles, it's the Wii that has the one game that I want to play (Twilight Princess) but there aren't any of those in my local stores.
So if we have one with a 4 board should I start a support call now to get it replaced or wait on this mythical firmware update?

Kudos to WilliamG for doing such a great job moderating this thread. But my interest in these TVs has run its course.

I've just added this thread to my subscribed threads list:
Official Mitsubishi LT-xx133, LT-xx144, LT-xx244 Anticipation Thread

...120hz, 4 HDMI ports, thinner frame, color temp control ranges low to high vs. warm/cool...

There's always something newer, more expensive, and more troublesome. Believe you me.

I'm so glad I'm going away to Paris and London for almost a month.

Oh to escape the misery of poor customer service and expensive equipment that doesn't work!
