Awestruck, more than likely it is not a SDHC card reader. Try a smaller capacity SD card (2 GB or less).

Bigdufus, do you know how to reset the number of hours on the bulb timer after you change the bulb?

Holy sh!t man! You are the f'ing man! I bought a 2 gig card per yer suggestion, it did just what you said! The TV works GREAT! I had lost all hope you are the MAN!.

Did you copy all the files and folders or just the 3 files you listed?
All the files (3) and their associated folders (3)
Thanks, I'm going to give it a try tonight after work. My TV has been out for about 6 months. Hopefully this will fix it. I will let you know how it goes. I'm excited that this will fix it !!
How long does it take for the blue light to come on? Do I just plug in the TV or turn it on?
plug it in only takes about a minute
Thanks for you help so far. It has been blinking for over 5 min. I did not blow anything off though. Do I have to take the entire back off to get to where I need to blow it off?

Again Thanks.
Another question. Should I hear anything when I plug it in. The TV makes no sound at all. Not even a fan noise.
The lower section of the back.
You had the tv unpluged, inserted the SD card, Then plugged in the tv?
It is an SD card not an SDHC?
Files were copied to the root directory of the card?

No sound
Yes to all of your questions. Do you remember if there were any fans running during this. I'll try to blow it out.
No sound, No fans, yellow blinked real fast, then blue came on solid.
We used 2 gig cards. Mine was actually a 2 gig micro SD with the
SD adapter.
I just blew off from the back and tried again. The yellow light blinks 3 times pause 3 times and continues that pattern.
Man I'm dissapointed. Not sure why it didn't work.
If anyone else has did this and it worked please post. Thanks again bigdufus for your help. I will keep looking for something that will work.

Does this firmware update just replace damaged firmware on the set, or, does it affect the startup issues some have posted about?

Seems these sets commonly take several attempts to fire the lamp and tend to eat lamps quickly.

I asked Toshiba and they wouldn't say what the firmware actually did, just suggesting that I get the set serviced if it had any issues.

My experience with servicing sets is that you'll either get Gomer or Goober who will scratch their head and suggest getting a new set.

My set has an older version of the firmware installed from the factory and I'm just wondering if updating will have any positive effect on my startup and lamp life issues or just introduce a new host of issues.

My 65HM167 will be three years old next month. Still on the original lamp.

At least I still have another year on the extended warranty. Hopefully if something does happen, it will occur before the warranty expires.

Strange startup behavior on my 65hm167.

My set takes several attempts to fire the lamp. I had always had the fast start enabled, so I disabled this feature - to see if it made any difference.

First startup after this change was perfect. Lamp fired on the 1st try. Subsequent starts reverted back to the multiple try attempts.

One startup went through all the restart attempts and ultimately failed. The blue light on the front of the set turned red and the amber light flashed - indicating lamp failure.

Unplugging the set resets the trouble lights and the set started up on the 1st try.

Tried unplugging the set the next power up and again it fired up 1st time.

Any thoughts on why turning off the power to the set would affect the lamp igniting?

Hi all,
New member here and having an issue with my 65HM167. What is happening is that after it powers on, after 5 or 10 minutes the picture begins to become distorted with these 2 inch vertical lines spaced evenly across the entire screen. At first the picture gets misaligned by them and quickly corrects itself, constantly coming back and going away. Then they come on and will stay for about 2 minutes and then the TV turns itself off. I call Toshiba and they weren't much help, so I tried unplugging and plugging it back in, but it still does the same thing. Works fine upon initial start-up and then does this until it turns itself off.

I purchased it February of 2007, with a 3 year extended service plan and, of course, never had a problem until now when the plan is expired. Murphy's Law, it never fails, lol.

Anyway, I was thinking it may have been the bulbs since its never been replaced and I probably should replace it anyway, but from what I've read it sounds like it may be the light engine. I didn't hear any sort of Pops or noises that would leave me to believe it was a bulb.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks.

I have been researching my 65hm167 for a start-up problem. In doing so, I found that the symptoms you have outlined are indicative of a problem with the light engine of the set.

Costs seem to run between $400 - $900, the higher being new from Toshiba.

Unfortunately, Toshiba seems to have packed the light engines in these sets with everything, inlcuding the lamp ballast - which seems to be my problem component.

My set is covered by an extended warranty. Mine was also 3 years, but started after the 1 year manufacturer's warranty, so I'm covered.

Just trying to get someone scheduled to come out and officially diagnose.

Hey guys i just received my replacement lamp for my 65hm167, now how do i reset my lamp hours???

Also is quick start the way to go, or should i leave it like i have it which is quick start disabled??
That was weird! I was looking at this forum last night for the first time in months, and POP! The lamp finally blew after about 2 1/2 years and almost 11K hours. The stats are:
LAMPL 0
LAMPH 10906
LPON 2149

But I forgot that I had reset to factory during a firmware update with something like 2750 hours on the bulb, so it's more like 13,650 hours total. Not bad.

So it's probably best to keep your lamp on high bright and power-saving startup for longest life. Just saying.

Thank goodness for my backup lamp. I bought a Y66 a long time ago, and when I went to put it in I found it had a molded plastic handle that snapped off quite nicely with pliers. I see the original was a Y67 with a fold down wire handle. The new one works fine. Now I just have to get my lamp warranty to pay off with a new backup lamp.

Update: It appears that my bulb warranty and extended warranty are not worth the paper they're printed on. Repairtech is/was a scam and is kaput. I did just score a replacement backup new genuine Y67-LMP off ebay for $85.

Hi Everyone!

I bought my 65hm167 in November of '07... first time having an issue with it!

I heard a loud pop last week and automaticly figured it was the lamp therefore pulled the door off, pulled out the lamp and sure enough it was blown!

I ordered a new lamp/housing unit... $140... arrived this morning. I installed it and... no luck! It does its 8 cycles trying to get it light and then it shuts off and the lamp light stays illuminated and the power light blinks red. I hold the power button to turn off and it says "LAMP NOT WORKING"

Do you think I have a ballast issue of could it be just a bad lamp?

Thanks in advance!!
I think you should at least try pulling the lamp back out and reseating it with particular emphasis on the side that has the electrical connector. I'm not sure, but I think you may have to have the outer door back on and tightened down fully too, but I'm not sure about that.
I'd also suggest reseating the lamp.

I had the lamp fail to light the first time I tried to replace it. Reseating it fixed the issue. I took the lamp out and slid it back into place, giving it a bit more force on the side that has the electrical connectors. Felt a slight click into place and the lamp fired up 1st try.

The design of the lamp has the electrical connectors on one side and the screws to the cabinet on the other. Seems overtightening the screws to the cabinet could dislodge the electrical connectors a bit.

Hope you get the lamp working again.

I have been having lamp issues about every 4 months with this set. Recently had a service call (extended warranty) and the service tech diagnosed light engine problems. The electronics that control the lamp firing and power are all a part of the light engine for this model. Can't just fix the ballast like with previous models. Have to replace the whole thing.

Waiting to see what the warranty company says. Love the set's picture quality and functionality, but it has been the least reliable piece of electronic equipment I have ever bought.

Hi, my 65HM167 blinks 15 times, tv will restart, and on the 8th time it stops with yellow and red lights.

Our lamp had went out, just got in the new one and this is now what is happening. I've took out and reseated the lamp several times but that hasn't help. I've tried the 2GB SD card trick (even though I'm not getting the 3 light blink) and that didn't help.

Would anyone know what the 15 yellow light blink refers to?

Thank you,
Wesley
Forgot to mention, I put the lamp in about 5 days ago and it worked fine, then yesterday when I turned it on it started giving me the 15 blinking lights. The lamp bulb itself looks fine.

Thanks,
Wesley
