Spray paint and warranty ?

I figured id post this as a general thread since i didnt have much luck on the owners thread. So since most of the people that own the Sony KDS-A2000 probably wouldnt mind having the gray portion on the TV being black like the A2020 how hard does everyone think it would be to spray paint that portion of the TV?
From the looks of the peice that differs from the A2020 it looks as if that entire thing would just come off if you unscrew the back part of the peice all the way around. Again this is just an idea because im really bumbed the 2020 came out about a month after I purchased my 60A2000. If I am way off on this or anyone thinks this is not a good idea at all please let me know. Also I would imagine that this may very well void the warranty on the set.

The all black glossy frame on my Pioneer Plasma goes better with the rest of my equipment than the silver gray cabinet did with my Sony rear projector, but I have to say that at night when room lights are fairly low, the black frame makes the picture look more cut out.

What you might want to do is take some black construction paper, cut it out and temporarily attach it to your display with some tape. This will tell you whether or not the final result is what you think its going to be.

If it works out, you might want to get some of that black plastic stuff from Parts Express that has heat activated adhesive. I used it to recover my gray pedistal. On your display, you might be able to remove it and return the set if the need arose. Be sure to only spot attach it.

Thanks Jim. I checked out parts express and all I could find was the 24mm black adhesive heat shrink. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=080-678 Is this the stuff you were talking about?

Painting anything that you intend to retain even a hint of factory OEM appearance requires specialized equipment and experience. If you lack either or both don't do it.
