Nope.

REW showed me how Audyssey was having a negative impact on my sub in my room. YMMV

EDIT: I forgot to mention that with two subs on the way, REW is really going to help you with placement.

I would recommend a simple camera tripod to secure the SPL meter at ear height. I have played the individual tones as well as run REW...REW is a much better window into your room response.

I have 2 LFM-1 EX subs being delivered tomorrow...my wife wants me to place them on each side of our main viewing sofa, to use as end table's, with a lamp on each unit. My question is: How much vibration do these subs put out. Could they actually be used as end tables ? Has anyone ever done this ?

My Onkyo 876 has MultiEQ XT, which I am very happy with in my room, sounds great to me.

Only thing I don't like so much is the overemphasis on bass when you switch Dynamic Eq or Dynamic volume on, but it's all good. Mostly it's noticable to me in peoples voices out of the center channel, but it does add a boost to the sub as well.

But back to the question: Should I assume I have no need for further equalization? I guess I can always install and run REW but I have no laptop so that may be a problem.

Thanks for any input guys, much for me to learn here!

Since you have MultiEQ XT, you might as well give it a try and see if you like the results before investing in outboard equipment. If you haven't seen it yet, here's a link to the "Official" Audyssey Thread, which should be helpful:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=795421

My Onkyo TX-SR606 only has Audyssey 2EQ, which doesn't EQ the sub, so I use a BFD.

As for Dynamic EQ, it was fun to hear all the low-end rumble when I first got the 606, but eventually Dynamic EQ seemed too bass heavy so I stopped using it.

Recently, I also turned off the Audyssey EQ and it was like getting a new pair of speakers - it was almost as if a blanket were taken off. Dialog is more clear at lower volumes, the soundstage is expanded.

Of course, that's just my system and opinion. As always, YMMV in your own environment.

They make a very nice end table until the movie starts.

Well said and I completely agree.

I have been reading the posts and they are really helpful. I finally pulled the trigger last week and ordered an EX. It will be delivered next Thursday. I will follow the instructions posted here and calibrate it as much as possible.

While waiting for the EX for my main HT, I also ordered Polk DSW Pro 600 from an online seller for $430 ish. It is in backorder for one week and I have the option to cancel it. This is for a family room of size 20X15X9 (H) with big openning to the kitchen. No heavy bass will be played there. It is mostly for music and karaoke. There are so many good words about the LFM compact here so I startred to wonder if I should cancel the polk and get the compact, while it is still available for $319. They have mostly the same specs. See below. The pro of the polk is that it has a nicer look, comes with a remote, and matches the existing fronts (Polk RTi-10) and center (Polk CSi2 or something). The pro of the compact is the price and probably tighter outcome. I know there are very few people who may have audited both but just want to throw out the question here. Maybe I will be lucky enough to get some comments from you. I am not considering the plus and the EX because they are both backordered for 45 days now.

Main specs of the DSW Pro 600:
Driver Type: Down or Front Firing, 12 " Woofer
Amplifier Power Rating: 250W RMS
Frequency Response: 25Hz. -125Hz. +/- 3 dB
Dimensions: (HxWxD) 17" x 16.5 " x 16.6 "
Weight: 45 lbs

Main specs of the LFM Compact:

Driver Type: Down Firing, 10 " Woofer
Amplifier Power Rating: 225W RMS
Frequency Response: 25Hz. -180Hz. +/- 2 dB
Dimensions: (HxWxD) 16.75" x 13 " x 19 "
Weight: 38 lbs

Hello,

I have done some research and found they typical, " I have narrowed it down to:

SVS pb10nsd 429.00
Outlaw LFM Compact 319.00
HSU VTF-1 449.00
HSU STF-2 299.00 Too Small?
Outlaw LFM Plus 439.00 Too Big?

I have a room size of 12x16 with 10 ceilings.

Trying to keep budget down around 450 or less

Outlaw seems to have the better pricing, but SVS gets lots of love here.

HSU has god prices as well, but not as much mention as SVS or Outlaw.

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

I am in a room 15' x 20' x 10' with (2) LFM-1 Plus subs and (2) LFM-1 EX subs and I still think I NEED more.

IMHO, the LFM-1 EX (for 519 bucks delivered) is the best bet for your room size. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait 45 days.

I've been using the 663 for awhile now. Major bang for the buck (at about $350 from 6th Ave. Elec.). It has performed wonderfully for music, movies, video games, etc. And very few problems reported by owners in the owners thread.

Separately, this Outlaw thread should be pretty active for a good while, with all the new Outlaw subs being ordered lately. What a bargain they are with this current sale. Let us know what you all think once you get yours.

jeffrey r thanks for the vote of confidence on my purchase!

================================

well gang here we go with my questions on eq'ing these bad boy dual plus' i got coming. i am trying to prepare myself before they get here as much as possible. so in short i got a buddy who works in audio/video who will assist me in getting these setup. i will be using his professional SPL, a ecm8000, a m-audio fast track pro, and the REW software [although he says that we can use his pro tools software ].

if he had available the izotop ozone software to accompany the m-audio device, then it would probably be better than using REW, but i don't believe protools is the type of software i am looking for. hopefully then REW will work well with the m-audio device. the reason for my concern is that the m-audio device utilizes a usb interface with the pc and its software is designed to capture this information. i am uncertain if REW can capture the information via the usb port as well or will REW look for a sound card to get its information from.

any help is appreciated.

pay no attention to my post cinemafreak cuz i am new to all of this. that said, and if you are still reading i wouldn't sleep on the STF-2 for a small room size. i too was considering all of the ones you mentioned and the stf-2 was my first option until 1) i determined that the space i am filling is too large for the stf-2 and 2) what a heck of a deal they ran on the plus! & ex. which forced my hand.

in all honesty though i was going to get the ex until i stumbled upon someone in the classifieds selling 2 plus' in prestine condition for a slap-you-down-and-stuff-grits-down-your-throat-heck-of-a-deal

You didn't include shipping costs in your comparison. The free shipping on the Outlaw (through Midnight tonight) was a real deal maker for me.

I think the Outlaw sale is over at midnight Monday...wonder if that means it is over now (12:00 AM "Monday" comes right after 11:59 PM Sunday...or if there is still time...)

i think that as the original person to post about the sale, I should be getting some sort of kickback based on how many people bought them from this forum...

I just made the purchase a few minutes ago, and it was the sale price. Now my patience will be tested. 45 days, man I am crazy.

I ordered an EX yesterday.. I hate waiting for stuff. 45 days is going to drive me crazy.

How would 2x Outlaw LFM Exs stack up against 2x ED 2 300s?
post #1494 of 6802
Estimated date of delivery for 2 EX's: 2/13/09

I am very excite!

Just as a heads up guys, when I got the email with the tracking numbers the numbers were wrong. I've been checking the Fedex site since last week and it kept saying No record. I thought this was weird after having gotten the email 5 days ago, so I called Outlaw. They sent me the wrong numbers.

So if your tracking numbers aren't showing on the Fedex site after several days I would check with Outlaw. Same thing may have happenned to you.

Come to papa!

My Ex is being used as a side table. It works fine if the items on the table are heavy enough. It is on hardwood floors though so Im not sure if that effects the vibration. My house has little to no vibration regardless of how loud I put it at.
post #1496 of 6802
I give up. Sale prices too good to pass up. Couldn't resist. Another new Outlaw customer - even if just a LFM 1 compact. OTOH, I don't have to wait 45 days to get it!

FWIW, I bought my LFM-1 EX when it was $599 with free shipping and eD was offering two A2-300s for $600 with free shipping. I chose one EX (let alone two) over two A2-300s for the following reasons:

* Believe that one bigger/better sub is better than two lesser subs.
* HSU design
* 16Hz rated response
* More powerful amp
* Tunable (Maximum Extension or Maximum Output)
* Down-firing port (less potential for chuffing)
* Exponentially better finish/aesthetics
* Conversations with each company's tech/customer service
* Reviewing the respective Outlaw/eD threads on AVS. I was looking to tweak (it's a big part of the fun for me) and it seemed more like the enthusiasts were here.

Of course, your situation will likely be different, but that's why I chose Outlaw. Hope this is helpful.

Congrats hanesian. Me too. Ordered the LFM-1 compact last night. My budget for the Plus or EX just wasn't there, nor the available space in my living room. I'm coming from a 7yr old Kenwood HTIB, so I can't wait to see how this puppy plays with my new Infinity P362's. I just hope the obsessions stops there.
