I was originally looking at a Hsu VTF2 Mk3, STF-2, or the ED a2-300 - but I really like the Outlaw design (kid and placement friendly downward driver and ports).

Just had to do a little extra legwork (and finger crossing) to pick up on this item from the "island of ebay misfit toys"!

Has anyone done the Outlaw transferable warranty? I didn't see any mention of it on their website.

I saw this today as well and it is certainly depressing news. I ordered an LFM-1 EX on 2/8 and was hoping I'd receive it in time for spring break, but that looks like wishful thinking now.

I haven't considered getting something else for a second. At $519, there is nothing with better price-performance. Anyway, I'm still excited about getting my sub--it is the last piece of my new setup...

Don't shoot me, but I was one of the very last ones to get my order in on time for an LFM-1 EX at the sale price before they went on backorder. It replaced a perfectly good 10" Paradigm PS-1000. All I can tell you (and anyone else in the same holding pattern) is to try to remain patient! It will definitely be worth the extended wait!!!

Good to hear I can't wait to get mine and play around with REW. I've been doing a lot of reading over at HT Shack. Of course then I'll probably end up NEEDING a BFD, and the addiction will continue...

Same here kinda...replaced a Paradigm PW 2200...with dual EX's.

Yep, I too replaced a Paradigm PS1200 with dual EX's...WoW! Now I've felt what's possible and wonder what more could be had - with quads? With something else? With a DIY? Hmmm... I've been happy for 15+ years with my Paradigm and now I get a taste of real deep and impacting bass and I can't stop.

My power cord stops 3 feet short of my power conditioner. Is it safe to plug into a surge protected power strip, and then plug that strip into the power conditioner? Like a mini extension cord.

If your power conditioner has power surge protection capability there is no need for the surge protected power strip. Just plug your sub into a UL approved 16/3 extension cord and then plug that into your power conditioner. Most manufactures say 16/3 is OK but check with the manufacture of your power conditioner so you won't void the warranty. I use a 16/3 cord with my APC.

I PM'd Larry last month on some questions regarding the differences between the EX and the Plus. I had been researching the HSU VTF series, the ED AD-350, and the SVS products when I discovered Outlaw subs. I was really stuck between the 16hz extension on the EX vs the 18hz extension on the Plus to go along with better WAF, and Larry ultimately recommended the EX.

The LFM-1 EX arrived about 4 weeks ago. It was the right move. This thing rocks! I use it 90/10 for movies/music. I've only used it in bass extension mode. The oliphants-sp? charge scene in LOTR III is as visceral an experience as I've had in a movie theater, much less in my living room. If I had ordered the Plus, I'm sure I would have been just as happy, except for those deep bass moments in a movie when I'd be wondering if I should have sprung for the extra 2hz extension. These are the moments I now anticipate in every movie I watch.

I have the sub gain/volume set at 2.5. Anything over 3 and the bass overpowers any other sound attempting to emanate from my Mirage speakers/room/house or city block.

Visually, the EX is impressive. It routinely draws a "holy sh$t!- what is that?" from guests. I have to admit, I've never seen a home sub this size before. Most people have no idea what it is.

This is my first foray into home theater, and it's been a fun ride. I'd like to thank Larry and many others on this forum that make it easier for people new to this hobby to research products and get answers.

To anyone who is wavering on which sub to get, I'll just say that I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Mr. Outlaw (Larry) will never guide you in the wrong direction! Glad you are happy with your decision and that it has worked out for you. It is now time to take the EX to another level and learn REW. You may find that the EX has even more to offer.

I understand I don't "need" the extra surge protection. But I have an extra 3' strip lying around that I'd like to use, rather than have to buy a new 10' extension cord.

Any harm here?

Well, I'm hoping the Plus will be more than sufficient for my little room. And really for the $425-ish delivered it's going to cost me, it will be pretty hard to have 2nd thoughts.

Looks like I will have it Wednesday or Thursday.

I've just placed an order for the LFM-1 Plus and I was wondering if any one knew how long of a wait is it for the back order?
I've heard possibly a month, but just depends on when the shipment arrives on the boat into California. Once in California, it'll only take a few days, depending on your loaction in the US. I got my units very quickly when they had them in stock - very impressed with their turn around time.

My bargain LFM-1 Plus is on the delivery truck as I speak. Should be able to plug it in tonight, but probably not much Audyssey tweaking due to my wife catching up on her TiVo'd shows in that room.

This will be my first down-firing sub, so I'm not sure if it will play nice on the stone fireplace hearth where our previous front firing subs lived (the hearth is in the back of the room, the subs sit in the corner behind the main viewing couch).

rmplum: Where are you getting the delivery date / status. I placed an order a little over a month ago and the only email I got from them leads to an invoice page showing the order itself (with no updates or estimated dates etc)
Thanks

syyid,

I bought mine through a private transaction after it didn't sell on ebay.

I received it today. It's in awesome shape. Best $375 spent ever. Have it connected, but won't get to re-Audyssey it until tomorrow night.

Holy crap the LFM-1 Plus is big. Should be plenty of sub for my little room.
Well, two days in and I'm pretty happy so far with the LFM-1 Plus. Finally got a chance to redo Audyssey (MultEQ on my Denon AVR-888) last night with a tripod and all 6 room positions.

With my LFM's volume set at about 3.5 (10:00 position roughly) the Audyssey set SW level at -8dB, which is pretty much throttled all the way back. After finishing the setup and listening to a few songs (Bela Fleck and some Steely Dan) I notched it up to -5dB. The walking bass line on the "Swing on This" track from Alice in Chains (Jar of Flies) is also a good one. Anyway, the thing is still WAY down in it's available adjustment range.

I haven't tried much LFE yet, just the chapter 25 Darla scene in Nemo and it's pretty impressive.

I'm glad I got the Plus (especially for the price), but it's also pretty hidden in my family room (behind the couch in the corner) so I'm lucky there. It would be a pretty huge box sitting out somewhere in plain sight in my small room, even though the finish is pretty nice. It currently sits on a fieldstone fireplace hearth (with the spikes and cones) so I will probably grab a Subdude or similar to firm up the mounting.

Seems like a great sub so far though.

Just wanted to publically acknowledge my experience of Outlaws Customer Service. Ordered a B-Stock LFM-EX1. Product arrived, sounded terrible, had an unbearable rattle. Called Outlaw and spoke to Scott.

Scott did some checking and it turned out that they had another LFM-EX1 that was shipped in error and was on its way back to them.

They shipped me the one the was returned with a pre-paid label to send my defective one back. Did the exchange with Fed-Ex.

After setting up the replacement I got no output from the sub, although the green light came on indicating it was getting a signal.

Called Outlaw again. Spoke to Scott who walked me through removing the amp to check for a lose connection that sometimes occurs in shipping, and that was exactly the case. Reconnected the cable, reconnected the amp, and all is well.

It was quite refreshing to experience customer service where you felt like the company you were dealing with really cared, and wanted to help solve customer problems. Thank you Scott and Jennifer.

Got a b stock plus ordered this morning. Will it be better than 2 Pa 120's I was about to order?
Glad to hear they took care of you nelson. The great CS at SVS is a big reason I'm still considering getting a PB12, as I await for the Outlaw shipment to arrive. Right now I'm leaning towards sticking with the LFM1 as the almost $200 difference might be better spent elsewhere. Is it end of March yet??

Mine also. I got mine three weeks ago. I know the consensus that the EX is the better option but, frankly at the sale price in January I really dont have any upgrateitis. Love the Plus.

My wife and I were out for dinner last night and considering going to a movie, then she said:

"you know, I almost like watching them better at home now. I have no idea what all of your stereo equipment does, but it sounds very good"

I was pretty floored. She also asked what the big black box was behind the couch - I said, "oh it's just another speaker - that's the one that makes the booms".

So, that was pretty cool. On another note, I played with the real traps test tone CD today. Even though my LFM-1 Plus is in max extension mode, output dropped off significantly below 25-26 Hz. I didn't have my sound meter at home to check numbers, but I was a little bummed at what I heard - since this thing is rated for 18Hz in MaxExt mode.

I've got the EX and did the same thing with a test CD frequency sweep. I thought the sweep down sounded like it dropped off as I got closer down to 20Hz. After measurements with a calibrated REW laptop setup I discovered it'll sound as though it drops off, but measured response is actually flat until 16Hz. I've actually got a bit of a bump from ~22Hz to ~16Hz, then it drops off to below 14Hz. The human ear certainly doesn't hear "flat". Of course take measurements and compare results. It may also be placement.

Funny about going out to movies comment...we don't do it anymore either. My wife said the same thing last night after the third LOTR movie (watched all three this weekend!) - that she prefers to watch at home. It sounds good, looks good and we can pause it for intermissions whenever necessary!
Well I had a few minutes last night to start playing with room response..I need to run more frequencies, but here is what I have so far using the real traps CD...

(LFM-1 Plus in a 13'x20'x8' (IIRC) room), measured with this:
