You didn't really believe me when I told you that with that HTIB sub, you'd be going from a Nerf gun to a S&W 44 magnum
post #3363 of 6802
I've never even heard some of this stuff before! Wtf?! Sonic cannon scene in the hulk is epic!!
have fun. I remember the first night I got it and I was coming from a sub that wasn't great but certainly could pound a HTiB system. You'll enjoy it more after you "tune it" but for now happy times await enjoy the two movies.

Haha thats awesome. Now I`m getting really excited! I decided that I am going to go with the Outlaw plus over the Rythmik or HSU. Now the only problem is I signed up for a Chase credit card that I saw on slickdeals because they offered $250 cash back if you spend $500 in the first 3 months. So I was like "hell yeah I am about to pull the trigger on a $500+ sub so I can use this card to get it for 1/2 price." Well, I havent heard back from them yet, I have no doubt I will get approved because I pride myself on my credit rating, but the waiting game is killing me. Every other card I have applied for in the past it was instant that I was approved. I`m trying not to get too anxious and put it on another card so we`ll see...

In the last 3 months I have went from an old Bose acoustimass system with an Onkyo tx-sr601 and a kenwood sub to an Energy Take Classic 5.1 system and an Onkyo tx-nr609 upgrade to upgrading my L/LCR/R to Energy CF-70s and a CC-10 and the wife is starting to **** bricks (not that thats stopped me before. ) Now I am getting the Outlaw LFM-1 plus and thinking hard of changing out my Energy CF-70s and CC-10 to RC-70s and RC-LCR, BUT I am happy with the CFs so that is still debatable!!!

Yes, I have the fever!!!

Saints,
I think you will be pleased.
I bounced all over the map while I was deciding and right up until the last couple of days I was pretty much convinced that I would pony up for a PC13 Ultra... but Outlaw went on sale and when it came time to place the order I picked the LFM1EX.
No regrets at all, it really does sound good and I am very happy, would I like the PC13 better ??? I don't know, but I do know I can buy lots of music or movies for the price difference.

Thanks for the reassurance and thanks for every ones replies so far. Honestly I think I would be happy with any of my previous choices and I may even go up to the EX, but I do like the smaller size of the plus, but we`ll see. I know exactly what you mean about being all over the place on such a purchase, but as of now Outlaw is my choice.

At half way gain, audyssey adjusted the sub to -15db which is the lowest it can go lol. It's so ridiculously loud. The damn thing is huge! Its honestly a totally different experience. It's like I'm in the damn movie. Thor was crazy!

Oh yeah, i also wanted to say everything about the sub screams quality. The spikes were really impressive imo. The thing just looks great.

Glad to hear you're enjoying your new sub! I run twin LFM-1EX subs myself, they have really worked out well. With so many new companies offering subs these days, I'm reading about long wait times, poorly finished product, amp failures, lack of parts, etc. With Outlaw I quickly received some great looking subs that have been performing flawlessly for years now. When they go on sale they really are the bargain champs, IMO.

Thanks poolboy! I'm actually quite glad that my eD order took so long that i decided to switch. Ended up with a better sub that shipped right away (got it in 5 days!...had to cancel that one after 5 weeks with no end in sight), dont have to worry about amp failures or driver failures, and got a much longer warranty to boot.

Also, if this is B-stock...i sure as hell cant figure out whats wrong with it. There might be a spot or two that isnt completely perfect, and theres (maybe) a darkish black line across the amp that might be something, but im trying really hard to find something wrong at this point. I'm really pleased with Outlaw! Plus i really really like the way it looks. It's nice to get something and just be happy with it.

I'm kind of having some trouble with the loudness of the bass. Its like theres so much new stuff that I've never heard, that i dont know how loud i should be hearing it heh. I suppose I should get an SPL meter, but at radio shack all they have is the digital kind. Its at -15db and actually sounds good (still maybe loud; 5 on gain), so i'm thinking about bumping it down to 3-4 on the gain level and then going from there (since +/- 15db is the max the receiver can go). Usually Audyssey sets its really low, but since this thing is SO loud, even -15db (as ridiculous as that seems) might not be low enough!

...only sucky part is that the people who aren't watching movies when i am bitch about the house shaking (WITH a gramma). And about things outside of the house shaking haha (light fixtures by the front door...wtf?!).

(all of these smileys are applicable)

Wow, long post.

Yes, I have the fever!!!

You basically did everything I did Almost to a "T"!!!! I just am in an apartment so I can't get the EX, although I did find myself a jewel in the form of an LFM-2. Once I move into a house though, even the wife is saying.......LFM-1 EX!!! She loved the improvements we got from the Take Classic sub to the LFM-2 and wants even more improvement if possible.

I think that when Audyssey sets your sub super-low like that, it means that you need to roll the volume knob on the sub lower and then re-calibrate. I mean I don't think its filtering is effective when it sets your sub that low, it's saying that the thing is too loud to manage. Try lowering that volume.

As SaviorMachine has mentioned, you really need to turn down the gain or volume to 3 on the EX and run Audyssey again. Audyssey, in your case, might have needed to set -20dB and was limited to the max cut of -15dB. My two Ex subs are set at 3.5 with Audyssey setting the sub trim level to -7dB on my Onkyo AVR.

A SPL meter would be very helpful and nothing wrong with the digital RS meter...

You can use your ear as a rough SPL meter to ballpark it so that you don't have to just guess and keep rerunning Audessey multiple times:

1) Turn down the gain some on the subwoofer (since it's obviously too loud).
2) Set the subwoofer channel on your receiver manually to 0.
3) Listen to a couple of you favorite songs that have some bass in them for five minutes, and adjust the gain on the back of the sub to match where the bass sounds reasonable. The reason for using songs instead of movies is that you should have a better idea of where the bass levels are appropriate. Explosions might be harder to gauge
4) Then run Audessey and check the levels after test run the primary listening position (not multiple position) and see if you need to adjust the gain on the subwoofer. Then run multiple positions.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I figured I needed to lower the gain (I alluded to it somewhere in that long post), but I forgot to mention all I have is audyssey2EQ, which does not EQ the sub. All it does is set subwoofer distance and the level, and it ALWAYS sets it low. So basically I have to manually adjust it myself. Or get a new receiver.

And the receiver I'm looking at is like $2K, which I have no chance of being able to afford for a while haha.

turn the sub's gain down still it's way too high if you're getting -15dB. Most people think that knob is a "volume" setting but in reality it's a "gain" setting. I was in your shoes for a while too and until I set it to 2-3 range did I finally get it at -3dB and then I manually placed it to 0dB (or basically hot 3dB). You should get it to where Audyssey gets your sub between -3 and +3dB. If not, you'll get some clipping at some point...I know I did in Iron Man when I had it at -15dB or some crazy high level.
Nosferatu's right. You just have to turn the gain down. I have a big room area to fill, so I have to run my at close to 10 o'clock on the dial. But you mentioned you have a very small room, Test123455. Yours should be turned down much lower. Just do the test with music I suggested, and you'll find the setting that will get you close so that Audessey gets it right.

A SPL meter will really help you...it has been my experience that 2EQ doesn't quite get the level right. Also, setting level by ear tends to produce very hot bass...not necessarily a bad thing.

When I had a single sub, I was running the sub level at +6dB over the speakers.
Now that I have 4 subs, I am running even with the speakers

I am wondering if anyone of you has replaced a Mirage Omni s10 sub with the Outlaw plus or EX and if it was a upgrade to the low end performance.

I have a spce 18x25 with 15 foot cielings and a system consisting of Energy Rc 50 towers up front and RC-LCR center and RC 10 surrounds with Mirage Omni s10.

The Mirage Omni S10 is a great sub, but it only goes to 21 hz with 200 watt amp and 10 inch driver. I know im missing ultra low bass in movies and i am hoping the Outlaw Plus will go lower with good spl.

Is the Outlaw Plus a serious upgrade from the Mirage Omni S10?????
Any opinions?

I'm running a ex with my energy setup. Sounds fantastic. I had an energy sub before that ( small 8 inch). It made a huge difference. the omni s-10 is a nice sub. But you have a huge room. So in my opinion I say get it.

What Energy speakers are you running? when do you cross over your speakers?

Mirage Omni S10 vs Outlaw Plus.

What wins and why?

The Mirage hits 21 hz but im wondering if the Outlaw Plus hits 21hz and even lower with good spl.

Yes. If you read the product info, you'll see that the Plus gets down to 18hz, +/-2db. And you are going from a 10" to a 12", and my experience with the Mirage Prestige S10 (i upgraded to the EX) is that Mirage is very optimistic in their ratings.

I will be using the sub purely for home theater. Are you feeling and hearing bass in movies with your EX that you didnt with the Mirage?

I have 6000 cubic feet. With the S10, I could not really feel any bass much. The EX is a whole new immersion experience when watching HT in what I can feel, and much more detailed and accurate bass than what the S10 could do. The Plus has the same components as the EX, only a slightly smaller cabinet. Based on Outlaws specs, the Plus differs in 3db less volume and 2hz less bottom reach than the EX. Only a little difference. Based on my experience with the Prestige S10, I can guarantee you that you will be very pleasantly surprised once you hook up the Plus and listen to it.

Rc-70's, 50's, 10's, rc-lcr, cr-10's. Set the crossover to 60 for fronts and surrounds. 80 for everything else. I had all of them at 80, but I get a lil more bass with the new settings.

Hey guys, does the LFM1EX have a switch to convert between 120v and 240v? I live in the US right now, but might move to India in a few years. The sub seems awesome, but if it doesnt have the voltage switch, then I might have to look elsewere
post #3389 of 6802
Looking at the manual there is no mention of dual voltage, also look at the backplate of the unit, it only shows a single voltage. You should be able to get a proper answer if (when) you contact outlaw support. I am sure you would feel more comfortable doing that anyway than trying to get a verbal answer from us. Taking this overseas will cost you some serious $$ as the EX weighs quite a bit

I have come to the conclusion that feeling bass in movies is freaking awesome.

Also that Audyssey calibration turns on Audyssey dynamic EQ automatically and muddies up the bass.
