Also that Audyssey calibration turns on Audyssey dynamic EQ automatically and muddies up the bass.

Hi Test123455 - what receiver do you own?
The Hsu VTF3 has a switch for 240v in the back, but it says something about using a different fuse for that voltage switch. It's a lot like the Outlaw LFM-1 EX (the LFM-1 EX's design is based off the VTF3). You might drop Hsu a email to see how well it would work for you.

It came with my onkyo HTiaB. Its the R670 receiver, which is said to be equivalent to the onkyo sr607 receiver. Its a pretty basic receiver, I really wanna upgrade!

Question...can anyone who owns the LFM-1 EX verify that the toggle for Max extension says 20Hz and the input for Max output is (i think) 25Hz? I thought max extension was supposed to be 16Hz. Typo?

Also, for auto on, i turn the master power switch to 'on' and then put the auto toggle to 'on' also, correct? The reason i'm confused about this is because the light on the back is always green. I figured it would be red when off, then switch to green when it turned on automatically. At least, thats how my onkyo was (red-->blue when on, but i think there was no master power switch).

Edit: Wow, i'm a moron. The auto switch toggles three ways: off, on if you want it always on, and auto for auto on. Did i damage it by leaving it ON for the last 30 hours?
No, you can leave the LFM on all the time, it won't hurt it. It doesn't draw anymore power than if it is set to auto-on as I understand it. As for the variable tuning switch, that is the sub's tuning point, it isn't quite the roll off. The roll off should begin around there but the sub may still get to 16 hz within -3 db. You will get to 16 hz by tuning the sub to the 20 hz low extension mode. What can damage the sub is if you have the switch set to 20 hz mode without the port plug in! Make sure that port plus is in when set to 20 hz mode!! You can run it in an unofficial "over-damped" mode by having the plug in and the switch set to 25 hz, that won't hurt anything, some people even prefer that sound.
Haha, yep, I've read a couple different manuals from different companies that specifically state NOT to do that and that it could void your warranty. I'm just not gonna mess with the port plug!

Thanks for letting my know about the roloff, that does make sense. What would overdamping accomplish? It would start rolling off at 25Hz but go down to 16Hz?

Also, any benefits to having it on auto-on if always on doesnt draw any more power?

Thanks for replying anonymouse99 and shadyJ! Found this in the owner's manual, but I will contact the support for more info and see if there is a workaround.

Verify The Line Voltage
Your new Low Frequency Module has been factory configured for 120 volt AC lines. Connecting the LFM-1 EX or LFM-1 Plus to a line voltage other than that for which it is intended can
create a safety and fire hazard, and may damage the subwoofer. If you have any questions
about the voltage requirements for your specific model, or about the line voltage in your
area, contact Outlaw Audio before plugging the unit into a wall outlet
post #3398 of 6802
Overdamping will roll off the sub higher, and that's about it. Some people think the sub sounds tighter with less deep bass, as they think that deep stuff sounds boomy or that it can interfere with the more intelligible mid bass and upper bass. They mistakenly think it is more "articulate".

As far as I understand there are no benefits to auto-on over just leaving on all the time. I think it's there because some people are uncomfortable with the sub being on all the time, as that's isn't how electronics are normally run. So the auto-on is sort of a compromise for their peace of mind, but it doesn't actually help anything.

I think my Mirage Omni S10 cant really produce 21hz or lower as Mirage is optimistic in rating this sub to 21hz.

I would like to try the PLUS to get bass output to a strong 21hz and lower as the PLUS is said to do.

Im wondering if Outlaw is like Mirage in being optimistic with rating there sub output.

If the info for the PLUS is correct does that mean i can expect bass in the 20hz range to be clean, agile, strong and even go lower into the teens with bass?

You would be going to a better quality subwoofer AND from a 10" to a 12". You will get much better SPL, SQ, and LFE.

sooo i decided to re-run audyssey because i wasnt completely satisfied with the last run (not because of the sub), and i bumped the sub down from 5--->3, and Audyssey STILL adjusted it to -15. 2EQ usually adjusts it low, and i was pretty certain this would happen...but where would you go from here? Bump it down to 2? lol...do you guys have a #1 on the volume knob? mine only goes down to 2, which is odd.

I probably wont touch it until i get an SPL meter, and because the bass sounds fine to me, but i was just curious.

HSU vtf2.3 is now 40.00$ cheaper than the Outlaw PLUS.
Are these subs the same with the exception of rear ports?
Is the HSU better at 40.00 cheaper?

Yes. I would get the vtf2.3 over the plus for that price.

Can anyone recommend some games with strong LFE content?

I just finished Resistance 3 and am currently playing Gears of War 3 and they have both been impressive. Also fired up Uncharted 2 and the uncompressed PCM audio is really good as well!

Thor, X-men First Class, The Hulk.

Well since I made a joke might as well post. I still have my LFM-1+ and put it through it's paces with Tron and it walked out the door. Still huffin and puffin and have zero complaints. I just looked at my receipt February 9, 2009 10:39:20 PM and paid 439.00 during the sale. Seems it's that time of year again can't wait to see what they let go with free shipping. Sure would be nice if they ever get the receiver produced for 2012.

Those are movies. I was asking specifically about video games with good LFE.

I am not much of a gamer but I have a dedicated room set-up with a 7.1 system for Gran Turismo 5 and it rocks with LFE...

I've been wondering about this, too. It would make sense that game developers could add more LFE. I tried Killzone 3 the other night on the PS3, and wasn't very impressed with the bass. I actually felt that Crysis run off my HTPC, which is only in stereo, had better (not deeper) bass.
