Haha, ive already ordered a set of these.....

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...00_i00_details

Should be here by Friday.

Now, in fairness, my Sony HTIB's center channel was such crap, that I often had to listen to higher volume levels so that voices were audible. And then when an explosion came or a gunshot, it would sound very loud. Now that I have replaced my L/R and Center with Polk 60's and CS1, I find myself using way lower volume levels to hear the audio.

Negotiations have been completed with all of my other neighboors. The one above me however may be a challenge.

Yup. Thats what I was thinking. I was going to buy a stack of $10 Bed, Bath & Beyond gift cards and just hand her one when she comes down to complain.

That and maybe some Bass shakers if need be. Luckily, she travels often, and is rarely in the apartment. So I got that going for me.....

If the door rattles in the frame try a couple of door bumpers. They're small, round, self adhering rubber nubs. Most any hardware store should have them. One or two stuck on the door jamb should tidy it up.

Ah, good suggestion! Thank you! Much easier than the avenue I was going to take.

In that case, you might want to try it first in maximum output mode. Ricci, in his Audioholics review of the EX, felt it was a little tighter in MO mode. The frequency response would then drop off fast at 25hz instead of at 18 hz, but would be a little flatter over all. (I'm guessing based on the EX graphs from Ricci's review; the Plus should be similar without the hump at the end due to the EXs tuning, which is off a little.) Losing that little bit of ultra low frequency extension might not be a bad thing since that's the kind of stuff that likes to travel through the walls and floors

Or will I not notice that big of a difference? My initial budget was $550. With shipping/tax, the LFM-1 Plus far exceeds that but I'm still up for it. If the magnitutde of gain versus cost is high on the Ex, I will shell out the extra for it as well.

If you're patient many of us (including me) bought an EX brand new from Outlaw for $550. Just saying...wait for the deal it comes twice a year typically. I snagged mine on a run back in June and I think there was another one since then if I recall.

Yeah. Mine's in ME mode, but I have a house. But as long as it does not piss off the apartment neighbors, why not?

That's interesting!! You're throwing me a curve here.
The reality is - I do have time. That is, I don't have all the components yet. I have my fronts, rears & backs. The sub & center are left and in a month I'm moving to a new property we just bought. It'll be at least 2 months from today that I'll really be all set to setup my home theater setup ... so i definitely have some time. If I can score the Ex for $550 ... nothing like it.

If in another 2 months there's no go on that deal - I'll have to inevitably pull the trigger.

I hate to admit but I "am" actually looking some of the other subs that were brought to my attention today. At $499 ... they are looking like a good choice as well. (Rythmik, Legends, etc.).

Thanks.

I think I'm going to stick to MO mode though... I can deal without the vibrations and I like the higher sound output. Once I use it more for movies I'll probably switch, but right now music is still the priority for me.

The fv12 is a pretty good sub too!

I'm looking at that very seriously. This is the wrong forum so I wont go on -- but it's looking highly cost-effective.

My Plus just "popped", twice, during How to Train Your Dragon. I have the volume on the back at 3 and the AVR set at -5. Sounds pretty good (I like a lot of bass), but the two pops scare the hell out of me.

Is it a simple matter of turning it down, some more, or may I have damaged my two week old sub? It still souns the same during other playback.

Thoughts?

HTTYD has a ton of bass way below the tuning of the LFM-1+ sub...also, how loud were you watching the movie? I think your sub is ok as I did the same thing running a PLUS sub with the movie Cloverfield on the first night I had it!
My AVR was at 60 (Onkyo TX-SR608). I sometimes listen to movies up to 70 without incident.

Try watching that first scene from hurt locker. My subwoofer looked like a ...horse ...scared the hell out of me

I use the relative volume scale to know how far from reference level I am currently at...I would think that an absolute volume level of 70 has to be close to reference level.

Movies with bass below tuning of a single PLUS sub played at or near reference level will produce noises that you will not like...is your sub calibrated level to the mains or running hot? When I had a single sub, I always ran hot and it got me in trouble with bass demanding movies...

Yes, that got my attention...

I really loved the 50 caliber guns later in the movie and was one of my favorite demo scenes until Battle:LA showed up...

Anyone know how low the bass is in the depth charge scene of U571??? My dual pluses fill the whole room with an extreme bass presence. And man do those subs move some air!

1) Hook up that sub speaker connection to the Plus, either the left or right input.

2) Set the switch on the back of the Plus to "Active" and the crossover frequency dial all the way up to 180hz since the Sony receiver will have already filtered out the high frequencies.

3) Adjust the gain (volume) on the Plus way down to start, and gently turn it up while listening to some good bass music until it makes you happy

Set up the Plus last night as you suggested Cel....

I think I know how Buddah felt when he first reached enlightenment.
