That is a good problem to have. You can always turn the sub down and you will have plenty of overhead with that size room. That room will be nice and pressurized.

Just be prepared to turn the gain (volume) on the sub W A Y down

Seriously, though, what you'll want to do is make sure you have the gain turned down far enough such that your room correction software ends up with a channel (trim) level around -3db to 0db. Most people find that best optimizes the sensitivity of the signal coming from the receiver for the sub. Then you can always bump it up a couple of db on the receiver from there if you need more output.

The EX blows the Plus away in my 14.5X14.5X8 room with two openings. The Plus sounded awesome, but the EX adds that boot to your face.

I have only run them in ME mode. I played with the Plus for months in the different modes and preferred ME. I will play with the EX modes when the plug issue is resolved.

With the Plus, it seemed to sound different after a break-in period. I'm expecting the same of the EX.

Right now, I'm running them both up front between my display and front LR speakers. They complement each other well and seemlessly. I am going to try to move them to the sides of the room, but have to wait for my Tartan Cables to come in. After I try that, I am going to try the EX up front and the Plus behind (and closer to) the main listening position.

Eventually, I want another EX and will sell the Plus, probably to a buddy who recently bought a Hsu STF-2. We ran the STF-2 and my Plus together at my house, when his was freshly unboxed. The Plus fails to provide a lot of midrange the STF-2 played well. The Plus picked up where the STF-2 let off seemlessly and beautifully and vice versa. This was especially notable with music.

It would probably be smarter to sell the Plus and get a STF-2; we'll see.

I'm very dissappointed Outlaw discontinued their 10" line.

It's good to hear people with experience of the Plus and the EX. I have been pretty happy with the Plus and want to add an EX because I just feel like I need more oomph. Keep us posted with placement and how things go. I kind of want to just sell the Plus and get a HSU VTF-15, but I am about to move so besides budget atm and hearing how the Plus will sound in the new house I just need to wait and see how things go. I am guessing the general consensus would be that a Plus and an EX will be better than a single VTF-15? Comments?

Since getting my Plus I have also now thought about adding another Plus or an EX. Have two subs hooked up now via y-splitter, one being the Outlaw, the other being my old HTiB sub. I am running it at noon on the dial (gain) and +2.5 on my receiver. At -15 on my Yammy RXV-671 the newest transformers blew my mind. No chuffing, no bottoming out, just raw wall shaking bass. Knocked a picture off my wall. And this is in a room about 4000 cubic feet.

Now that i've owned this sub for a while, i continually find myself turning it down lol. Its like it needed some break in time or something. Weird. Sounds nicer and its also louder at lower gain. Has anyone seen Hanna? Either my sub was a bit too high, that movie has insane bass, or both (probably this lol).

As I have stated before....I love running my subs hot because I am a bass junkie. After a few movies have bottomed out my subs, I decided to turn the db's down on the avr. I put it back to 0db just like ypoa had it. What a difference it made! The bass sounded cleaner and it stopped jacking them up obviously. The reason I turned it up is because i was listening to mp3's and the bass needed to be higher. I guess you can say that I learned from my mistakes. thought I would share this with you guys. Kinda pissed about stressing my subs so much.

Probably 15 by 20. I can decide since its ground up. Was gonna do diy passives but I love my outlaws

Setup my pair of EX's over the weekend. Setup was pretty easy with the Audyssey instructions. Calibrated each EX independently to -1.0 db and then ran audyssey with them both with a final level of -1.0

Running them a bit hot at +1.0 db within my receiver and all I can say is DAMN! Haven't really cranked them up too far yet, but i am really happy with my setup. Definitely a whole new experience sitting in front of two subs compared to one.

That must sound awesome with the Ascends. You ended up getting the Sierra 1's, didn't you?

Yes, sir. Both movies and music sound excellent.

I am actually equally impressed with my CBM-170 SE's as my surround pair. Hearing a lot of things i never did before from the surround position.

Overall i am a very happy camper right now and SHOULD be set for a while. I think i will be able to enjoy the system a bit more when i have it setup in a proper room so i can position everything ideally.

I recently put together a home theater system together and purchased a def tech prosub 1000 and noticed movies like Jurassic park and inception when the bass hits real lo in these movies my prosub 1000 rattles . I've been told this is a mid bass sub so it can't handle the lows all the way down only up to 37hz. So I've been looking at the out law LFM-1 EX AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT CAN HIT THOSE LOWS. So I wouldn't mind chucking the prosub and grabbing a outlaw . So does this sub kick ass on the lows please I would love the feedback thank you !!!

YES! I have +'s and they do so I know the EX does. What are the specs of your room?

Yes. The EX would destroy the Prosub 1000 in a cage match in the first round, if not the first minute.

I have a Mirage Prestige S10, similar to the Energy VSW10, which is considered a pretty good 10" ported sub that might be fairly comparable to the Prosub 1000. The EX has a little better SQ, digs WAY deeper in low frequency extension, and slays the S10 on SPL (volume) output. Unless you have some kind of giant room that the EX is too small for, you'll notice a dramatic difference.

Hi everyone,

I just received my outlaw lfm-1 ex and I'm trying to set it up after reading the posts here. I have a Denon 2311ci and have ran Audyssey. Room is around 12x23x8. The sub is in Max extension mode and the sub gain is at 1, and audyssey has it at -2.5 after calibration. I tested it out but it still doesn't seem to have that strong of a bass in movies. I've even tried increasing the -2.5 to a +0.5 on the AVR.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get that stronger, chest-thumping bass in movies? Should I just keep increasing the sub channel volume? Thanks!

If you have placement options, do a sub crawl. Your room acoustics may be interfering with your output.

Don't be afraid to run it hot. When I first got my sub, I was a little underwhelmed, turned it up from the AVR's setting and haven't looked back.
I started at +5, then dropped it to about +3 or +3.5 in ME mode from what the AVR calibrated it to.
