Check this graph out of the CHT-10. Unfortunately, looks like a mountain. Then look at the EX (the blue is the maximum extension mode). The Plus should actually be a little flatter even (the tuning is a little off on the EX), with extension down to about 18hz (instead of 16hz with the EX) in maximum extension mode. Meanwhile, that review lists the CHT-10 as having a -3db point of 32db. You would be going to a much more powerful 12" sub--bigger amp, bigger driver, bigger enclosure--in addition to going WAY deeper. I wouldn't be surprised if the Plus has a little better SQ, too.

So if you make the jump tomorrow (or now its today), you are getting a lot better sub

Here is my graph for the LFM1-Plus. This was measured using ARC room correction on my Anthem MRX. The red line shows pre-calibration..(how the sub naturaly reacts in my room)....the blue line shows the ideal target and the green line show where ARC matched the ideal target.
You can see it is not dropping off above 20Hz

Maybe you don't "need" it, but I enjoyed the sound when I was younger and had 10" Kicker and Rockford Fosgate boxes built for a couple of cars. The bass was very tight compared to ported designs I listened to. I don't know much about the origins of rock, sorry!

I had a 10 inch Kicker sub with an Alpine amp in my old car and I agree, the bass is very tight.

I realize that either sub would be a huge improvement over the old Velodyne. Thank you for the link, but I don't know how to read graphs to appreciate what you're trying to say. I can see that it is flatter, so I'll have to take your word for it that flatter is better. What I also don't understand is how and where you found out that the tuning is off a little on the EX compared to the Plus.

Was this for my benefit? What does this mean?

I miss it, but it was one more thing to worry about when I parked my car somewhere at night. The stereo was worth more than my car.

We know that the port tuning is a little off on the EX because of that graph. See the hump at the end? And it's a good guess that Plus is flatter because the EX came out after the Plus with the same amp and driver. So the guess is that they perfected the design with the Plus, and then figured out that with the larger enclosure that they could get more output, even if it's not perfect.

As far as the graphs, ultimately we want a fairly flat frequency response--so that some of the bass is not being overemphasized, and other parts underemphasized--and frequency response that extends well down to 20hz or below (there's lots of good 20-30hz content). So each of those graphs has frequency plotted along the bottom, and the the db change up the sides. So you can see how one part of the frequency range is louder (or softer) than another part with each sub. Although I don't personally mind the 20hz bump on the EX because that you don't so much hear as feel at that low near subsonic range.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I never knew it was possible to measure a subwoofer's sound quality this way. Anyway, I've decided to be patient and wait for a sale on the EX. I sold the Velodyne a couple of days ago, so hopefully it won't be too long.

Is anyone using an Outlaw with a smart power strip? Does the strip turn off all the other things plugged in when the outlaw amp goes into standby?

I use a power strip on one of my EX's, and have never had this happen. I would recommend you use another power strip, its not good to have something that handles so much current to have unpredictable behavior.

Good to know and I too have it on a separate power strip but just happens to be by coincidence. And to answer kevin's question, no it hasn't happened to me as well.

I ordered one. I am pairing it with my EX, so I hope it plays nice! The Plus will be replacing my BIC F12, which has been fine, it is a halfway decent sub, but it tends to be a little muddy and boomy. I wanted to wait for the EX sale again, but I think the plus will be fine, certainly an upgrade anyway.

Was given advice to completely plug both ports by very trusty sources. Gonna give it a try tm and run audyssey

It's thundering quite a lot outside this morning, literally shaking the house. When I woke up my first thought was: "Why do the kids have the sound system turned up so high?"

I am replying to your signature Kev. I have been buying BD's like crazy myself, the one thing that is bugging me is in the brick and mortar stores, a new BluRay is now $30 on average again. You now get the BluRay, the DVD and the Digital copy. I myself don't want the other crap, I just want the BD!! What am I am going to do with a DVD? I know I can save online, but I still enjoy going to a store and looking over their inventory and buying a few new copies.

I believe the dvd is just a way to get people to go bluray. Kind of like how disney is doing it!

Any thoughts from anyone on pairing a Plus with an EX? As I said a few post up, I just jumped on the LFM-1 Plus sale to add another good sub to my system and I hope I did the right thing. I bought it on an impulse, I showed the wife the email and she said order it So I asked no questions and did what she said. I think she is really into what I have been building. She don't know an amp from a BD players, but she knows it sounds awesome!

The Plus and EX are very much alike, you won't have any problem pairing those two.

I never pay $30 for a bd but when I do buy a new bd and it comes with the dvd and digital copy I sell it on Ebay. I just recently purchased Crazy,Stupid,Love (I know!) for $9.99 and sold the dvd for like $4 (I put it in a jewel case) and the digital copy for $4!!

so, it's recommended to plug all ports even with dua EX's?
Tried it and the bass sounded tighter but at the cost of 50 to 70hz

Just in case you are thinking the wrong thing, options are one port plugged or both unplugged for an EX. Plugging both of them might not be good for the sub.

It wouldn't be bad for the sub. However, it would greatly diminish the low frequency output.

+1

Just do it and don't look back. No-brainer in my book.

So it sounds really bad below 50 to 70 hz? Not fully understanding what you are saying. What mode do you run it in with both ports plugged?

Max extension. Got a smoother response (gradual) compared to 1port plugged but lost some output at 50 to 70hz. But using a mbm so no problem

Oh okay. By any chance do you have any charts comparing the two that we can see?
