Hey guys, I'm looking for a new sub and on limited space. I think the best for me might be the LFM-1 Plus or the HSU VTF-2, which both are around 15" wide which I need. This will be loaded into a corner (only placement option) and I was curious if the port locations on either of these subs mattered?
Probably does not matter much as far as sound quality goes.
My personal preference is to have the driver and ports on the bottom.
I spend plenty of time in the initial setup but once it is done I don't touch it anymore.
If you are a "tweaker" and think you will be changing plug configuration after you get it setup the rear ports on the Hsu might be better.

I bought a Rocketfish RF-HTS120 8 outlet power manager http://www.rocketfishproducts.com/products/home-theater/RF-HTS120.html
and I am trying to figure out if I should be plugging my PLUS into this or directly into it's own outlet??

Can anyone help me with this??

If you don't have any surge protection on the sub, I'd want to use it to protect my amp.

If you are wondering how much power the sub draws, keep in mind that the peak power comes from capacitors, so it's not going to draw 1300 watts. More likely--and this is just a guess--the current draw is probably much closer to the RMS rating of the amp.

hmmmm so it seems like that power manager should work then.....I also have one of these that I could just use for the sub
http://www.homedepot.ca/product/6-outlet-wall-mount-surge/910200

any opinions on that surge protector with the sub on it's own outlet??

I guess the best question always is...what would you do???

Hi jgourlie, from the Outlaw's Manual
Quote:
Extension Cords and Power Strips
We do not recommend that extension cords be used with this product unless they are of
sufficient gauge to pass the necessary current during full load conditions. Most inexpensive
extension cords are not capable of such high-current loads.

Similarly, should you use a power strip, surge protector or any type of AC power line conditioning
equipment, make certain that it is also able to handle the high current loads
this product will produce.

A Sneak Preview From The Outlaws!

Dear Dennis

Did you ever go to the movies and get asked by someone outside the front door if you wanted to come to a "sneak preview" of a major motion picture? It's usually something big even though they can't tell you what the movie is.

The Outlaws are taking a page from the movie industry's book and we're holding a sneak preview of our own next week for a major new home theater product. Although this is NOT an Outlaw model, it will be the first time you'll see it on our site, or perhaps anywhere else.

The best part of the preview is that you'll not only be able to view the product's spec sheet, you'll be able to purchase it at an incredible price that will be considerably less than the regular price when the unit appears on our regular site a few days later.

How do you get into the "Outlaw Sneak Preview"? Just as the folks in front of the movie theater ask you to sign up, we're doing the same thing. To get a ticket to the preview you will first need to register HERE. Registration will only be open until the morning of Monday June 18th. After registering, by morning on Tuesday June 19th, we'll send you the admission ticket that will 'admit one' at 11PM EDT on Tuesday, June 19th. The preview will run for 24 hours only, and you will not be able to view or purchase the product after 10:59PM EDT on Wednesday, June 20th. Regular priced availability begins on Monday, June 25th. Just like a movie ticket, only one person will be admitted for each ticket, and when the preview is over you can't get back in.

Since this is a sneak preview we can't say anything other than if you miss this one you'll really kick yourself! This sneak preview is just another way that, as always, "At Outlaw Audio, the best values in Home Theater are just a mouse click away. ™"

Best regards,

The Outlaws

Any of you owners that are using Audyssey with your subs...I have a lfm-1 plus and I have noticed in some of the graph's for our subs they seem to really roll off after 100hz.

So my question is in Audyssey it is always reccomended to set the lpf of the lfe channel to 120hz. Would it sound better to actually set that filter at 100hz rather then the 120hz??

What are your thoughts on this??

I understand that from 100hz to 120hz would be lost from the .1 lfe channel but it the sub doesn't produce those sounds well why bother playing them??

Sadly I don't....I guess if I did then I would realize that I should just set it at 120hz.....Sometimes I just need to be talked off the edge of the cliff from one of my crazy theories smile.gif

Why would you think that the sub does not produce those sounds? Josh Ricci found that the EX had a +/- 3db of 21-270Hz in 2 ports open and 16-300Hz for 1 port open. There's no reason to suspect that the Plus would be that much worse in frequency response from the EX such that it would have problem playing 120hz content.
It occurred to me after I posted that graphs from owners will have a low pass filter set for their system setup, and no one is likely testing the LFE channel when measuring the sub. Don't worry about the LFE output.

We need the barest minimum excuse to upgrade, don't we? Father's Day, and many of us are buying new AV equipment. LOL

I would give a sub for a Lobster! I have not been able to eat Lobster since I was about 15. Sucks, considering I live in a shore resort and there are hundreds of fantastic seafood restaurants where the seafood comes in fresh everyday!

The sneak preview is the Marantz SR5007 for $699. Seems like a good price, but nothing for sub enthusiasts to get excited over. frown.gif

It's not quite the "sneak preview" I had envisioned but, seems as if the price is right if this is what you were looking for though.
