A bit late, but just wanted to lay out a final update. I received a new woofer via Fed Ex and replaced the original. There was no difference in sound at all. We watched The Avengers and the bass just wasn't there like it should have been. Granted, Avengers isn't the best bass movie, but I should have heard more than I heard. I just couldn't seem to get the volume loud enough without distortion. To Outlaw's credit, they offered to send a new amp should the speaker replacement not fix the issue. However, I decided that the effort required of sending parts to and fro and changing out things on a $600 item just wasn't where I wanted to be. Afterall, if it was defective from the factory....what happens in a couple of years? I contacted Outlaw and requested a return. They shipped me a label and RMA number, I repackaged the sub and sent it to them. Full credit was returned to me for the purchase price.
As far as customer service goes, I can't complain. They did what I asked. When I mentioned I would just like to return the item there was no "fighting to keep the customer" such as offers of reduced price if I replace the amp or we'll just send you a whole new unit. Some folks may not like that after you've made the decision to return an item; others may welcome the fact that the company just does what you ask of it. I'm disappointed this sub didn't work for me. By all accounts it should have been a pretty awesome experience; for me however it was just a train wreck (with no bass).
I've moved on now and have purchased another brand at a somewhat higher price, but it has worked well out of the box. It is in the same location as the EX was and it produces bass that I can feel at my sitting location. In the end, that's all I wanted.
