I'm debating between an SVS PC12-NSD vs Outlaw LFM-1 Plus. I was set on the SVS sub, but the $499 BF deal on the outlaw is very enticing. Taking overall price/performance into account, which way would you guys go out of these two options?

For the SPL/$, the Outlaw wins that handily. Take a look at this chart, compare the PB12 with the Outlaw LFM-1 EX. You can see the PB12 is only competitive around 20 hz, everywhere else it gets owned. The PC12 will perform almost identically to the PB12, and the LFM-1 Plus will be similar to the EX except it won't go as deep or get as loud at the deepest point of its extension.

I have a family room that is contiguous with the kitchen (see picture below). The entire room is 26x14, but the family room, where the TV/Stereo exists, is 13x14. Will a LFM-1 Plus work? I plan for us to watch HT 75% and use stereo 25%. The music is 70's rock, classical and blues. Our receiver is a Pioneer VSX-1120-K and the speakers are Infinity RS5's. The room is setup, while not optimal for HT, is optimal for out family right now and probably will not be changing - unless the entire family falls in love with having the sound "just right".
Originally I wanted to get a LFM-1 Ex, but now I am trying to find the smallest "box" that would fit. The Ex (and other similar or larger boxes and cylinders) . at least on-line, were seen as "extremely unattractively" by my wife. However, after measuring the space and much discussion, the dimensions of LFM-1 Plus will work. But I want to make sure that it will work technically for this room. Here are the other ones, ordered by size, that we have found: As you can see - it can get quite pricey! So, if the LFM-1 can possibly work - then I am more than happy to go in this direction. While I do really care about cost and functionality, the "size" and "attractiveness" issues have come to the forefront for us.

Your thoughts would be very appreciated.

Welcome to the wonderful world of WAF. I'd personally go with an Ex to fill that area. The dimensions of the Plus is 21.50" x 15.0" x 22.0 while the Ex is 21.5" x 17" x 24. As you can see, the dimensions are only slightly more with the Ex. It's always a good idea to call their rep and tell them what you're working with. Hell...I could be wrong (I usually am) and all you'll need is a Plus.

All good points. Here is the previous list updated to include the Ex. Looking at the increase in volume size (sniff sniff), I don't even need to go back and talk to my wife!
If the Plus is not sufficient, then do you have any recommendations on where to go from here? Is the VTF-2 MK4 in the same boat as the Plus? I'd rather not go for the most expensive one at $900. Thoughts, opinions?

Don't quote me but I believe the Plus matches up to the VTF 2.4 and the Ex matches up to the VTF-3. Someone can correct me if I'm off here. Again, call Outlaw at 866-688-5292 with your questions.

I grabbed outlaw EX yesterday....my friend told me that when bought SVS he called in and asked for fine tuning the sub before they shipped....do you does outlaw can provide same kind of service and fine tune EX before they shipped to my....any opinion on it... Thanks

Not sure what the "fine tuning" means. You'll have to configure it to fit your setup; they can't really do that for you.

At the very least. It's possible that the Plus may have more output than the VTF 2.4. Seems like the best of the two choices here, given the price difference.

Agreed. Some of us here can tell the slight nuances in sub performance. For the average guy who has been puttering around with no sub or one that's inexpensive, anything of this caliber is going make you wonder why you didn't move up the "food chain" before this. Down the line, someone new to A/V may want more.

Just a head's up. You have until tonight at midnight to push the button on an Outlaw during their sale. That is all.

Anyone considering an Outlaw, whether the EX or the Plus, should crap or get off the pot by the end of the day. Disappointment will never cross your mind. The only problem you will have is that one will not fully satisfy your bass craving after a while.

Can anyone with experience ordering from Outlaw tell me if it's normal not to hear anything from the company for 6 days after ordering? All I got was the order confirmation right away. I can log in and see my order. I emailed them early yesterday with an inquiry but haven't received a response.

Starting to wish I went with the Hsu highly regarded customer service..

BTW. Is this Plus at $499 better than the Legend at $399?

I ordered during the last sale and I got the same treatment. 5-6 days after ordering I got shipment confirmation, but I ordered at the end of the sale. I suppose they are just very busy during the sale, when I finally got the sub I instantly forgave them though. You're going to be very happy when you finally get it, and regarding the Legend, it may have more mid-bass output, but the Plus has better extension down to 18hz, and possibly further depending on your room and placement. It's definitely the better movie sub.

Ok I feel a liiittle better..but I did order on the first day of the sale..

Same boat, ordered Thursday, waiting patiently for shipping confirmation...I read that Outlaw has a place in Oregon they can ship from? Hope so, makes transit time a lot shorter to Washington.

I ordered as soon as the sell hit, however I ordered the Plus(less demand probably) & it shipped Monday from Oregon.

I ordered an EX on Monday night. I currently have a Bic V1220 that I got from Walmart for $98 about a year ago. My receiver (Pio 1120K) has one sub out. Obviously, I can use a Y-cable, but should I run both these subs together? Are they too different in that in will adversely affect the system performance?

I would say don't run both subs together because the BIC will hold back the EX.

However there is no harm in trying it, so if you want hook it up and see what you think.

The EX will have way more output than the V1220. So if you run them together, the V1220 will reach it's limits long before the EX. The way to overcome that would be to to put the EX in your front soundstage and the V1220 nearfield so it doesn't have to work as hard to keep up.

That being said, I would expect the EX to have better SQ. So even if you can get the two configured to work together, could be the V1220 would detract from the quality of the bass. So why not wait, try them individually, and compare them, before trying to integrate them together.

My Fedex shipping information showed an origin pickup from Troutdale, OR. That made things alittle brighter after waiting a week for it to ship.

I wouldn't worry all that much about shipping and lack of contact. It is, afterall, the busiest time for the shipping industry as a whole. It's not like you're dealing with a huge business like amazon, newegg, etc.

My credit card shows the purchase, I got a call from Fed Ex...There's an 89 pound package from Troutdale, OR on it's way...but I never received another email from Outlaw...I'm cleaning some wiring in anticipation...
