Official Outlaw Owners thread - Page 215

Hey folks. New Outlaw owner here. After much research here, I ordered the LFM-1 Plus. I have a very open "great room" and while I'm not trying to build a conventional 5.1 home theater room out of it (would be pretty much impossible with my layout), I was looking for a better movie experience beyond the crappy TV speakers, LOL.

Anyway - I don't have the rest of my stuff yet, but I've unpackaged the Outlaw and was immediately impressed with the quality of packaging, quality of build, and the heftiness of it. It's also a lot bigger than I imagined, even though I knew the dimensions and saw pics online, LOL.

Can't wait to get it hooked up. I'll likely be going with nearfield placement due to my room.

How big of a difference can one expect from adding a second LFM-1 Plus to their current one? I'm debating an upgrade to two subwoofers for the room.

Also, how does one determine best placement of two subs?
adding another EX evened out the response in my room. Plus each sub didn't have to work as hard as one would in my room. (I have 4 EXs now)
Finally!! It arrived. The delivery guy (seasonal help) couldn't find my address, so we had to arrange a place to meet. Anyways, like others have said, the packaging was great. The outter box had a dent in it but the inner one was in perfect condition.

I hooked it up and ran Audessey. At first the sound wasn't that great to me. Then I unplugged it and hooked my PL-200 back up and instantly could tell the difference. The PL sub's volume was about 3/4 turned up and still wasn't even close to what the Outlaw could do at 4. Been playing around with the settings a little bit, trying to get it just right. At first there was 1 hole plugged and wasn't happy with the sound/feel of it. Currently have both ports open and the volume still at 4. Crossed over at 80hz.

Is there anything I can do to get this to perform any better? Movies only for now. Tonight I'll be testing it out on The Dark Knight Rises!

Not sure what you mean?

I think you just need sometime getting used to the outlaw. Everyone who goes to a newer sub always misses the old thump of their old sub. I did for sometime!

As for audyssey are you using any dynamic volume? Like midnight or night time viewing options?
I think its on Dynamic, I don't ever set it to night time mode. It's only myself and fiance in my house and my neighbors houses aren't that close.

I did notice that I feel the bass and it isn't boomy. I tried watching a scene from The Dark Knight Rises with each sub. Can really tell the difference. 1 day in with it so far and I know I'm not going back. Where do you guys typically leave the volume on them?

yea there you go you just need some time to adjust away from the boomy bass. In my room all 4 of my EX's are set to maybe 1ish. I run the subs about 2db hot from what audyssey set it. Remember though every room is different

Quick question: if I am considering a new placement of one of two LFM 1 ex to the rear of the room, do I set phase to 0 on one and 180 on the other. I am hoping the new placement will help reduce a null around 35-40 Hz. Also, has anyone see Outlaws wireless system OAW? If so, does it work well? Thanks for you time.

Not the best way to tell as you would need more tools. But use an spl meter, run a test tone from the avr to both and flick the phase switch. Which ever one gives you the higher spl do that. Thats the simple method. Not the best but does a decent job!

I just picked up an Outlaw M8 sub for a computer speaker setup. I do a lot of PC gaming, so wanted a better sound setup. Soo very happy here, massive upgrade from the crappy Logitech speakers I had before. The Logitech were really one note and very boomy. Paired the M8 with Definitive Technlogy ProMonitor 800 for the fronts with 100Hz crossover.

First thing I noticed is this little 8" sub goes much deeper down to about ~24-25Hz in room. Also much flatter frequency response, but that could be due to Audyssey on the Denon AVR-590. Anyway very pleased with my purchase and was extremely surprised with how fast I recieved the sub.

I know it depends on the room but I was wondering which way is better for "feeling" the bass? With one port closed or both open?

The feeling hmmm you mean the punch (Mid Bass) or the puking feeling (ULF). It really depends on IMHO 2 factors, your room and what you prefer. I know a lot of LFM owners like 2 ports open for SPL. I did try that at first but opted in the end to go for 1 port for max extension since I wanted some of that sub 20hz if it was there on the mix. Plus I have four LFM EXs so no max spl wasn't a factor anymore for me biggrin.gif

All in all it's just preferences! Feel free to ask any more questions if you need here or just pm me

Hey guys, I'm looking into getting an EX or a Plus, can anyone tell me if I will notice a big difference between the two? Also, does anyone know if outlaw typically has any Christmas deals? I unfortunately missed out on the black friday deal last month... thanks!

I'm thinking I'll try to pick up another one on their next sale. I am very pleased with the bass and overall sound but I've been into car audio for a very long time. So I like the FEELING of the bass.

Do you have all 4 spread out through the room? or placed together.

The sale wasn't a whole lot off, I jumped on the deal because it was free shipping ($90). You won't be upset with your purchase.

I know many of you have dual LFM subs. I am considering springing for a second one. Is the difference marginal? Can anyone expound on this

I'm really wanting to add a 2nd subwoofer to the party. Is there a reason you went and got 4? Don't get me wrong, if I could get it approved by the woman, I'd be doing it too! It must sound insane. What speakers are you using in your setup?
The Plus subs are on sale now, $500 shipped. Get them while they're hot.

Looks like quite a deal after looking at the specs of the sub. I've been planning on a HSU VTF-15H but being able to grab a pair of these around the same price
is making it hard to keep from clicking on the buy button.

I followed some science paper's advice on using 4 subs in each corner to get the best response. I actually have 6 Outlaw LFM1 EXs. I originally had 2 for my family room but ordered 4 more for a dedicated room I was building. That room is on hiatus right now so I decided to bring 2 more to the family room. Speaker wise I'm using the Atlantic Tech System 450Es for the LCR and Paradigm cinema 90s for surround duty.

hey I am thinking of getting the LFM-1 Plus as well. I have a BIC PL-200 so I am very interested in your experience. with the current outlaw sale I am leaning to getting one but how much of a difference can you hear compared to the PL-200? and how does music sound compared to the PL-200?

Haven't really listened to any music. Comparing the two isn't really fair. The PL-200 is really "boomy" sounding and it's not as clean sounding as the Outlaw. Since switching to the Outlaw sub, I've noticed that my speakers sound clearer, more detail. I think it's because the sub was so boomy that I couldn't hear all the detail in the movies. You can feel the bass with the Outlaw, I don't regret my decision at all. I'm wanting another one but it'll have to wait for awhile.

*I only had the BIC sub for a few months. Bought it to replace my F-12. Wish I would of just bought the Outlaw in the first place. Would of been just about the same price as the two BIC subs.
