How is Toshiba's HD player production rate/supply going?

I think we all see that HD DVD players seem to be in short supply at our local retailers - but is this due to all the great new marketing/promotions/pricing that Toshiba has going for HD DVD players or could this also be because Toshiba just still hasn't been able to manufacture and ship the players that quickly?

I'm wondering what your opinion/knowledge is on Toshiba's current player production/supply practices are...

Are the laser diode shortages and other production problems now a long-gone concern? Is Toshiba currently shipping a ton of units to all major retailers or what?

I am not really seeing HD DVD being in short supply. I just checked Circuit City's website and every store in my immediate area has these in stock and ready for pickup (I live in Salt Lake City, Utah). My local Costco has a pallet of A2's and they do not appear to be flying off the shelves. The A2 is currently in stock at all major onkine retailers. What makes you think it is in short supply?

They have A2's instead of the D2? I assume that's the one in SLC and not Murray, correct? If so, when the rebate hits in a few days I may pick one up there

For the OP, the fact they're still making them in Japan as well as China tends to suggest to me their maxing out (or getting very close to) their current production capacity.

Either that or their china plant is gearing up for production of a successive model.

But other than the above speculation i have no hard facts for you.

Is there a specific model that's built in Japan?

The Toshiba HD-A2 has been confirmed to be made in both Japan and China.

So, in general, they are somewhat easily or normally meeting demand and able to fill new orders quickly then?

I live in Jacksonville, FL - and there always only seem to be either no or only one HD DVD players available in all the vast amount of electronics stores in area. We have 3 Best Buys and 2 Circuit Cities, many others. To me, it seems that either the HD DVD players are selling out in mass quantities rather quickly or that a few get sold every now and then only to take forever to replenish that missing stock on shelves. I don't know which it is...

Let me ask these two questions: What were the latest numbers on HD DVD players total sold to date? AND By how much is/has HD DVD stand-alones been outselling BD stand-alones?
