Sangean HDT-1X Now Taking Pre-Orders

It is official. We are taking pre-orders for the HDT-1X.

We are allocating 50 units specifically to AVS members. You can place these orders by going to !!REMOVED!! - I had to cut you all off. . . I am sorry.

Please don't go advertizing this to other people. I have gotten permission to do this only for AVS members, so please respect it. If 50 units isn't enough, we will consider allocating more.

Units are expected to ship on or around June 15th, and you will not be charged until they ship. If you have any questions, let me know.

Anyone else having problems with the checkout? After I enter all the info and click to "Review Secure Order", IE7 shows an "error on page" in the status bar, and Firefox just hangs.

Also I noticed the checkout isn't secure. Address bar shows http:// -- not https://

[EDIT: These problems have been resolved - thanks Master T]

Will the 1X have any improvements in sensitivity/selectivity?

Will we get AM Stereo?

I have been told by globecharge and the creator of the software I used that it is secure, but that it won't indicate because only the order form is secure, and not the rest of the site.

I have also fixed the form. . .It required country and I removed it from the form.

As for an increase of sensativity and such, no. The HDT-1X will perform exactly the, just with added features.

I just ordered one and had no problem with the site. There's an 888 number to confirm the order, which I will call. I may decide to keep my current HDT-1 in its present state rather than do a return if the line outs on this unit are lower level than my current HDT-1. I'm wondering whether this unit is as sensitive as my current tuner. I'll find out soon enough. Thanks for the tip on this Master Theseus .

The link takes me to a rebate page. Is the offer over? Thanks for any info.
This leaves me with the one un-answered question:

WHAT ABOUT AM STEREO???

Has it been permanently axed from all further radios or are there plans to include it in the 1X or HDT-2?
Master Theseus,

Did the discrete IR codes make it into the HDT-1X? Also, any word on a trade in/trade up program? (I know, we (I?) want everything ;-)

I too am really impressed with the service and support that both you and your company are providing. It's very unusual, very appreciated, and very cool!

Thanks,

-- Dave

Wait for the page to load. On top of the Ibiquity rebate you should see; home, HDT-1, HDT-1X and HDR-1. click on HDT-1X and then click on the little shopping cart in the upper right hand corner. The offer is still available. By the way I received my confirmation via e-mail so it all worked very nicely for me.

Thanks Master T, it worked fine this time. And thanks also for all your dedicated effort to include everything we asked for in this tuner. I'm going to be proud to own one.

Master Theseus,

The rebate form (pdf) lists the HDT-1 as being eligible for the $40 rebate but the HDT-1X is not on the list. Will they also give a rebate if the form is submitted for the HDT-1X? I've heard that with rebates, often they are very specific, and if you don't follow their instructions exactly (or if the model is not listed), they can deny your rebate. Thanks

Yes... RDS, AM Stereo (with wideband IF/detector), and HD Radio all in one device would make it perhaps the ultimate broadcast audio receiver.

My position would be if it's not on the form we will not get it. Master Theseus has not said we will get it. Presuming we will get it is not enough.

I am going to wait to let things get "sured up" with ordering this new model and to make sure the rebate will be hassle free. Also, it is more than $249.99 with the $15.99 shipping. Amazon usually offers items (once they get it in stock for sale) with free shipping... which if you can wait a bit longer for full production to hit the streets will save you alittle bit more. A nit to some folks, but not a nit to others. So I mention it. Of course for the early adopters (of which I am most of the time) the extra cost may not matter. Then again, maybe they won't offer free shipping either. Decisions, decisions.

Well.. I would think now is the time to buy, if indeed the $40 rebate deal works?

If I get a $40 rebate but have to pay $15.99 flat shipping, my total cost is $225.98

If I buy it with free shipping (probably after the rebate expires), it'll be $249.99

I'd save $24.01 by buying now.

I can't wait to hear back from Master T, as I would like to order this before we go away on vacation next Friday, so I can indeed get the rebate deal.

...Only to wait an entire month for this thing to come.

Ok, now I see the HDT-1 is on sale for $170.03 at Amazon, they don't have any in house (all sold by other companies), so you wouldn't get free shipping.

You bring up some valid points mattdp. I just put forth those considerations for thought. When I bought my HDT-1 from Amazon.com it was offered full price $199.99 with free shipping. That was before they discontinued it and now the price is even lower as you stated but you pay shipping from other sellers. It still comes out cheaper now, but I don't think anyone who knows about the new version coming out soon will want to buy the older one with its quirks.
If Master Thesus can clarify and ensure that we will qualify for the rebate by pre-ordering here, then I will probably order it through this facility. But,
I am thinking now if I want to wait for the newer radios to come out later near the end of this year (or 2008 year) with newer featured chip sets and capabilities or just be the sucker "first adopter" type of buyer I usually am... that's how I wind up with alot of equipment that I don't use anymore... having gone through a job layoff and feeling the crunch a few years ago, I sort of curbed my impulse spending on things lately.

I've tried three times, with two browsers (IE6 and Netscape 7.2), and I'm not able to order. It hangs when I click on "Review Secure Order".

Advice?

OK, I will try to get to all your questions.

As for AM Stereo, if it is AM HD then stereo YES, CQuam, I am not sure of. From my understanding if they did remove it from previous version you should assume it is gone.

For rebate, IBiquity has told me that as long as it ships it will qualify. We just didn't know in enough time to get it on the form. I will verify to be sure.

The $15.99 is only to cover shipping and handling. This is the first time we have offered anything consumer direct and will likely be the only time I will do something of the sort. It was only to accomodate you early adpoters that didn't want to wait a week longer than everyone else. (Your orders will ship same time as our dealers, so you save about 7 days.)

These, when they ship, will be full production models. They are not engineering samples, pre-production or any other. They are 100% what the consumers will get when they buy these units retail. You just get them earlier.

Did I miss anyone?

Oh, and problems with ordering, I am sorry if you are having problems. It again, is the first time of running an e-commerce type site and I may not have gotten it completely right. Keep trying, but I will look into this.
Cool... so the rebate will work.

And yes, I DID mean C-Quam (AM Stereo). This isn't a big minus for me, as think might be one AM Stereo station left in the whole state of Minnesota.
I ordered one today. No problems for me running IE 6.0.2900

I did have a couple of minor problems on the order page, however:

The apartment/suite field requires an entry even if you don't have one. (It accepts a space as valid input, however)

I also was not able to ship to a different (work) address because the work address is in a different state.

So, only one question remains: is it here yet?

What happens if for some reason, the units don't ship on time to qualify for the rebate offering period? Is there any chance that they won't be ready to ship or do you know for sure that final production stock is already on hand?

What was the final determination on rack ears?

I did have a problem that needed addressing, but I have fixed the problem.

Our company has a "strict direct consumer policy" We are not allowed to promote for sale direct to consumer, even in the special circumstances I have done. I was originally given full power, but they are scared this would cause friction with dealers.

All the proceeds (any profit above wholesale price) will be donated to a community college in Missouri. Nothing will change for you in respect to orders, shipment, payment or otherwise, but that the community college broadcast engineer program will receive a small donation for all sales made in connection with people from this site.

I have also made it so that the order form opens a new window that properly indicates the SSL encryption. This was to satisfy those whom didn't see the lock and were concerned.

I have also fixed the form so that Apartment is not required. Along the way however I destroyed the alternative shipping address, so if you could place the delivery address in the "Notes to Us" section until I can figure how to fix this problem.

Thank you all for your help and I apologize again for all the confusion. Not to speak to ill of my employer because I love this job and our products, but we have a micro-manager that changes his mind frequently much like a child would making it hard to get a solid definitive answer on anything.

What about discrete IR codes (Power On and Power Off) and any word on a trade-up program for HDT-1 owners? Also, I have an HDT-1 with the clock-not-keeping-time issue; any chance there is an upgrade path for folks with problematic HDT-1 units?

Thanks,

No discrete or trade-up program.

We will arrange pickup of your defective HDT-1 and repair the clock issue and output levels free of charge.

We will also, upon request, disconnect the backlight when in standby.

This is not available only because we don't currently have the replacement parts in stock, or the tools neccessary to adjust output levels. Once we have the parts, tools, and are ready to manage the recall I will be posting another announcement.

If we do have the ability to change software while here for defective repair we will investigate that option as it happens.
