Yup, "Stalingrad" is Enemy at the Gates. The french retitling to Stalingrad makes it a bit confusing, as there's a well known (in Europe) german 1993 movie by the same name.
It's a french import, ordered at Amazon France, but for US buyers I'd recommend
Exploited Cinema. Note that these titles issued by Pathé don't play in first generation Toshibas. Played fine on my Euro HD-E1 (same as the american A2).
The video is VC-1 encoded, retaining the natural grain. I felt there was a moderate- to high level of detail, but just missing that last bit of sharpness. Audio is English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and was boomy and involving, but my system isn't up to snuff so I won't be held responsible for differing views on this. Also, this release is 1.78:1 while the DVD was 2.35:1. It has been claimed that the HD DVD is open-matte, but I can not corroborate this. The framing seemed fine to me though. Perhaps the only downside to this import is that all on-screen captions are in french (not player generated), so some Russian newspaper headlines leave you guessing (unless you read french, but who does? :-) All other subtitles can be turned off, no forced subs here. Menus in french only.
