1) Fixed my router problem and changed the AVP A1HD network connection to ethernet lan. Seems fractionally faster than the wlan connection.

2) I am using TwonkyMedia UPnP MediaServer (30 day free trial) to access media on my Maxtor NAS. This is pretty good as it allows the AVP A1HD to access the media on the NAS with the computer switched off (my NAS is on all the time). I was not able to do that with WMP11 (the computer needed to be on for the AVP A1HD to access the media on the NAS). I think I will buy a TwonkyMedia licence when my free trial is up using the Denon discount voucher included with the AVP A1HD.

3) Internet radio and music streaming starts up quickly and works well. Photo and video streaming sucks - takes a very long time! Not sure what the problem is- whether I am doing something wrong or the problem is inherent in the technology.

4) HDMI video signals cannot be switched to other sources e.g. I cannot watch a hdmi video signal from my cable tuner when listening to Internet radio!

5) I changed from RCA out to XLR Out. I had to recalibrate the audyssey settings as the sound using the previous RCA out audyssey settings was terrible. After recalibration using the XLR Out, the audyssey settings once again produce great 5.1 sound. I do not know whether I am imagining things, but I get the sense that the sound using the XLR Out is more "neutral" than the sound using the RCA Out.

6) The remote is very counter intuitive and a big disappointment. It also appears a bit "sticky" i.e. sometimes I have to press a remote key more than once for the AVP A1HD to respond. I wonder what the problem is?

Thanks once again for sharing with all us "soon to be" owners of the AVP-A1HD/HDCI.

Excellent that music streaming works great! This is something that I am really looking forward to using. And I was curious about Twonky Media (was going to use it for my iTunes library), good to know it works really well. Bummer that video streams don't works as well, but for me it's no biggie as I am only going to stream music.

Yes XLR connections are definitely the best way to go! This is how I am going to connect the AVP to my Sunfire amp. Sounds like Audyssey works really well with movie soundtracks. How did Audyssey affect the LFE sound? After calibration is the bass a bit weaker than before calibration? Is Audyssey defeatable?

Bummer on the remote and it not working the way it should. I wonder if all the remotes will be this way?

But it seems like so far, pretty much everything about the AVP (except the remote) works quite well and the sound quality is tops. Very cool.

In the meantime, if you have specific question, please post and I will try my best to check and respond (bearing in mind that I am not an expert in these issues by any definition).

Yeah it kinda sucks that we still don't have ours. And quite possibly we will have to be asking you questions about things for the next 3 weeks or so. We really do appreciate you taking the time to share your findings and answering our questions. Glad to have you with us here.

Stephen, I suspect your NAS may not be powerfull enought to do video steaming quickly. If you have a fast PC try comparing WMP or Twonky on that to the NAS. It may just be that the Denon is poo at video/picture streaming thou.

Excellent observations, thanks Stephen.

I agree totally on the remote control. This flagship system should have had a flagship remote control to go with it.

Some more observations:

1) I am not so sure what the technical difference is between "pure direct" and "direct" for the 2 channel stereo. I think I prefer direct (slightly warm) rather than pure direct (more neutral).

2) I ran audyssey again. Noticed that the audyssey set up was reporting a "phase " error for my centre speaker XLR Out. Looked up the audyssey FAQ on the Denon US website and it indicated that "MultEQxt detects absolute phase for each loudspeaker. Some loudspeakers are designed with intentional phase reversals in the drivers in order to address crossover problems. MultEQxt will detect that and report an error. The best course of action is to simply check the wiring and press Skip if it is correct. MultEQxt simply reports a possible wiring reversal, it does not automatically switch the phase". My wires are obviously connected properly so I followed the faq advice, did not reverse the polarity (altough the AVP A1HD allows one to do this) and pressed "skip" to continue the set up. Seemed ok!

3) Found out that if you want to access the AVP A1HD via the web with the processor on standby, you need to switch the power save in the Manual Set Up>Network Setup>Others>Power Save to off!

I know that pure direct cuts out the video circuitry completley so you will b able to get the cleanest sound.
With my A1XVA every now and then I got error phase problem, I just restarted and re-did everything.Seems to me the processing side is very similar to A1XVA apart from the new and changed additions.

Was looking around online and notice a place called Best Buy PC's (odd place to be carrying the Denon) that actually says they have 'em in stock! While I would "never" buy a high end piece from a place like this, this is at least a very positive sign! If this is in fact true, then other places are sure to either have them already or will this week. We will see!

Just thought I'd share.

Seth.. I was told by a pretty reliable source that there are three inbound to the US this week to Denon, so I would be very surprised to see any retailer have it yet...

Maybe Jeff T. can give us some updated information.. I hope to have mine as soon as they arrive.... here's to hoping

Does anyone know...does these unit come with rack ears or rack-mounting capability?

I am sure it is just a few more days. Agonising- but it's worth the wait.

Yeah it does seem pretty odd that this place would have them in stock and no one else does. So why they say "In Stock" I don't know. I have been hearing that it won't be available until March sometime (second week?).

Seems like right now they will only be trickling in, so getting one of the first is probably going to be a bit difficult. I sure hope I don't have to wait too long.

They won't have them in stock, why would denon supply them first.I reckon it's a way to get you to put a deposit down and then they will be able to order you one in.I've seen it done before, not by them but by other companies.

You're probably right, as there is no way they would have them when no one else does. As you said, it's a way to get people to put down a deposit for one.

Just for kicks, I e-mailed them just to see what their response will be.

Probably because it's not unusual for some unauthorized sellers to also have no problem with telling things like little white lies about products actually being in stock.

Well at least they were pretty quick to respond. But it looks like we were correct, as they do not physically have them in stock. But I was told that they have 3 on the way and that they are scheduled to ship out on Friday. Here's their e-mail:

Just curious, who here is going to use a different amp than the Denon POA with their AVP? And will it be connected via XLR?

I wonder how their pricing looks :-)

BTW update on my AVP/POA, I added on RS2 projector with 120" Studiotek 130 screen for 2.35:1 with anamorphic lens. Add to that the masking system that is being made I'm still 2 weeks out. I expect to receive my AVP/POA by this time or else
