Pioneer 4270

I know this model was probably the best consumer level plasma out last year, without going into the crazy high end price range.

The problem is, last year the set was still about 500+ more expensive than other sets. Now that the price has dropped significantly, how does it compare to the new generation models from other brands [i.e. Panasonic, LG, Samsung] Is this Pioneer still superior to these newer models, or are the new generations of these other brands equal to the pioneer?

Basically I'm trying to figure out if I'd be better off with last years Pio or this years Panny/Sam/etc.

My opinion as you stated for the current price you can't go wrong with the 4270 and they are still competing with the new models of other brands. Interesting to see what the new gen will bring if the current gen is so good.

I'm doing about the same thing. I'm trying to decide between the 4270 and the Pio Elite Pro 940 ( which has a few more features and a different color filter )

The 4270 has come way down in $ from last year. The picture can go toe to toe with any of the newer models out there from Pan or Sam

Pio is about to release their new sets starting next month. All the hype suggests that Pioneer is going to make a big step in plasma and all of the other manufacturers out there can get in the back seat and stay there when the new designs come out....

Should be fun to see...

It's Just An Opinion

mrconos, while I wouldn't agree with your initial premise, Pioneer and several other brands make excellent plasmas. The differences will be small and your eyes should decide what things are important to you, not the hype

Should we expect even more of a price drop in last year's models at that time?

Roman, I apologize for not getting back to you on the pricing I requested last week. I had a home emergency (attic fire-small one thankfully) that took the week over. Due to that my TV purchase has been delayed, but hopefully I can still pick them up over the Summer.

It's possible the supply will be dried up by that time, and i wonder if the replacement model is more expensive. Are you sure you want to wait?

The supply is drying out whatever is out there is out there right now on any Pioneer consumer model. I am doubting the price will drop anymore but who knows, I can only speculate and don't think they need to anymore.

We had a minor electrical fire in the attic last week (30 year old rigged improperly installed light fixture....gotta love the '70s-the dark days of home construction....), so needless to say the TVs have to wait now
