I'm really eying the SB-1000. I contacted SVS to ask them about the SB-1000 vs PB-1000 and they recommended the SB-1000. In my room it still will have a lot of output, and being ported will provide cleaner, more musical bass. The small size is a plus too.

The original FV12 right? There's a revamp coming soon. The name will be changed too, possibly LV12. I've seen a lot of recommendations for the FV12 with the Sierra-1's to match their musicality.

I've heard a few different brands of subs/types with my Sierras. The best has been non-vented Rythmiks...but I have not heard vented Rythmiks.

How are you guys securing your Sierra-1's to speaker stands? I was thinking of going with blu tack, but wonder if it would be more beneficial to decouple them from the top plate with foam or rubber.

The sealed Rythmik subs are out of my desired price range. frown.gif So far the only sealed that I've considered is the SB-1000.

You might consider the Epik Legend or if you can fit it, its bigger brother the Empire. I have the Empire and its a great sub.

That's another one I checked out briefly. So many choices.

I use rubber nubs, but blu tack would be fine and more secure.

I think it was the F12SE that I heard in piano black. Really nice looking speaker.

I recently purchased the Sanus SF34's factoring in the 9" height of the tweeter on the 170 SE's. The SF34's would put the 170 SE tweeter at 43" high, which is right at my ~42-45" ear height while sitting. Now that I'm getting the Sierra-1's the tweeter will be at 45.5" high, which I hope is fine. I've read that it's even better to have your ears at the midpoint between the tweeter and midwoofer, but I don't know the truth in that.

Will the Sierra-1's be too top heavy on the SF34's? I thought about going down to the SF30's, but not if the 41.5" tweeter height will compromise sound quality.

I thought about rubber nubs and then secure the Sierra-1 to the speaker stands with an L-bracket.

Something like this without securing to the wall:

You are not going to notice a 3-4" difference in height unless you are a couple of feet away from the speaker.

If the stand works fine with the CBM-170SE, it will probably work fine with the Sierra-1.

I use the blue tack, works great, actually hard to pull them apart after a while (but no adverse effect). I have different stands, so not sure difference in stability, but if I knock into mine accidentally that blue tack helps more than if they were simply sitting on something like a piece of foam/rubber/nubs. Mine are tweeters at roughly ear height in my seated listening postion, but if I slouch down then it's lower smile.gif

Right now Epik is on hiatus, both the Legend and Empire are out of stock (and no date on production/availability as yet). I have the Empire, great sub for the $, and the Legend at it's price is very hard to beat also.

Blue tak works great. I have some pretty heavy stands so I don't use anything since the stands couldn't possibly be bumped by anyone (no kids or dogs).

Yes I did. I just got off the phone with Dina. I will be returning my 170 SE's this weekend and once the credit goes through and I pay the difference Ascend will ship the Sierra-1's. I'm so stoked to get my Sierras. biggrin.gif

Thanks for all the help. Everyone else too. wink.gif

I'm still learning the audiophile technical jargon, and haven't experienced many speakers, so my comments may not be pretty, but hopefully better than "speakers...me likey." lol

Better to be straightforward than do the audiophool thing....many who call themselves audiophiles don't really know any technical stuff, they use words borrowed from wine tasting for the most part. smile.gif

I look forward to reading your impressions on the Sierras.

Anyone compare Sierra 1 with Klipsch RB81 II's?
learned a lesson this weekend. A friend came over to pick up my Polk's but while I was here I offered to show him my new Sierra's (S-1 satin espresso and Horizon w/ RAAL). Long story short, he left without my Polks because I'm pretty sure he's going to order some Sierra's for himself.

What does a pair of Sierra-1's usually go for on the used market if they have a couple of chips on two of the corners of the cabinets? I am considering selling mine and going with the Sierra-Tower, or, upgrading my Sierra-1's with the RAAL tweeter and a new crossover. The upgrade to the RAAL is close to the same price for a stock Sierra-1. So I am debating on selling my existing Sierra-1's and going with the towers, or just upgrading the tweeters and crossovers. Hmmm....decisions....decisions!
Martycool007, what is your reason for wanting to upgrade? Do you want more volume? Clarity of highs? More Bass? Maybe that would help us know what to recommend. I think the RAAL upgrade price is for customers buying new Sierra-1's. Ascend saves the cost of a tweeter and crossover that way vs selling a complete Sierra1 and then an additional tweeter and crossover for the upgrade. I could be wrong...
Do you have the standard Sierra 1-s or the Sierra-NRT now?

Another option is to wait a bit and see what the Sierra-2 brings when announced.

Do you think that maybe it's worth waiting for the Sierra-2 Turbo or even the Sierra-3, Curtis?

No idea until we know the timeline and the cost.

There is always something better around the corner.
