How do you like your TV thus far? The only HD I've seen on this TV was Open Season (Bluray). It was awesome, and like I said, it performed really well against the 1080p sammy and the Panny plasma...

I'd like to buy the set to watch mainly 1080i cable, so I would like to know how well the TV handles this kind of feeds. De-interlacing and downconverting the 1080i signal into 768p is a something really important for me... thanks.

In general, it's a lot easier for the TV to down-convert than up, so that shouldn't be too much of an issue for you. De-interlacing from good feeds seems fine to me. I have ultra-basic cable so I'm watching mostly 480i signals; only the broadcast networks are in HD. There are a few that broadcast in 1080i and they look great. If you have a STB, you might get more consistent PQ by setting its output to 720p.

Just last night I got an Xbox Elite so I'll post back later thoughts on down-converting to 720p.

so absolutely no clouding what so ever??? and are you people serious about this set having better picture quality then the XBR? im about 5min from buying the 40s3000 because i have been waiting for a set with no clouds because i returned three 40inch XBR2's back in feb and four 40v2500 due to clouds.

I dunno. I can't tell the difference watching a DVD via HDMI in 720p, 1080i, or 1080p. It all looks pretty good to me! I suppose if you line up two TVs side by side. . . but my money says that if I can't tell the difference, I'm not too concerned that I might be losing pixels due to the conversion.

Well, after almost 3 hours of tweaking this evening, I've decided on the following picture settings using a Sony DAV-HDX500 dvd player. Adjustments were made via HDMI, outputted at 1280x720p (this is a 720p set). Black Level setting on the dvd player was set to ON.

Picture Mode: Standard
Backlight: 3
Picture: 80
Brightness: 60
Color: 50
Hue: 0
Sharpness: 10
Color Temperature: Neutral
Color Space: Wide
MPEG Noise Reduction: Low
Noise reduction: Off
Gamma: Off
Black Corrector: Off
Advance CE: Off
Clear White: Off

Tweaking was done using dvd's, The Incredibles and Star Wars - Revenge of The Sith. I've never seen The Incredibles more 3D like and it's colors are very well balanced across a wide spectrum...with just the right amount of contrast and saturation. ROTS also now reveals more shades of natural color detail in the actors faces than I thought was possible!

Had this set for almost a month now - no clouding issues whatsoever.
Wholeheartedly agree with those who said that the PQ is stunning - went to look at it the day my local BB put it on display and was so taken in by it, that I bought it the same day !

How did you feel buying through ebay I've always been skeptical about this.

Anyways I was considering this tv but also have the Sharp LC-37GP1U on the back of my mind and I have yet to see either of these tv's locally on the market.

My main reasons for getting a hdtv is for gaming also movies would it benefit me more to get the Sharp for 1080p + vyperdrive or would a 40in 720p do me fine?

I bought from them http://stores.*********/Deal-South-Online

Well, there is always a risk but I usually take it. This company seems to be alright. They deal directly with Sony in Florida. But remember their price does not include insurance and sometimes other stuff (like stand, warranty).

PS TV is great but I don't know if it will be good for gaming. I never play...

just bought the 40S3000 for $1570 from american appliance store in st.louis. this is a great TV and in my opinion better picture quality then the 40v2500 and xbr2. no clouds WHAT SO EVER! finally!!!

I am also thinking about the eBay route, but am a bit concerned about whether we need to get the set from Sony Authorized Dealers or not. I know some brands require you to buy from their authorized dealers or no warranty repairs, but not sure about Sony. Anyone knows?

The problem I have with this set is with the Xbox 360 and HDMI (the Elite).

If you run it at 720p - through HDMI, this set senses it's a PC and therefore will not allow you to adjust some important menu options, Color and hue for example.
Sony says it has something to do with the way the chasis on this model is constructed.

To me, this is a big issue because I like to crank up the color when I play games and occaisonally adjust color and hue on a movie I may be watching (upconverted on the Elite).

Running output at 1080i does solve this, but I'd prefer to run in native resolution.

I hope this isn't also the case on Sony's future models.

If you run it at 1080i, it will look the same or even better. So should not be a problem with PQ

An Ebay store may be different from an Ebay auction. Ebay auction items generally don't have invoices, which are required for warranty. For me the price would have to be really good to give up a warranty. Lew Black

Usually tvs on ebay are sold by stores and they all provide proof of purchase. It does not always mean they are dealer's authorized but most of the time it does not matter for warranty to work.

Mine only detects the Elite as a PC when the resolution is set to 480p, for some reason; all other resolutions work fine. You might want to try setting the output to 1080p since it's easier to down-convert progressive scans.

Have you updated your Xbox online? I haven't yet but I understand there is new software that might fix that for you.

I had a chance to see the 40s3000 at Target and was really impressed. Had no idea about this tv until I stopped by to browse what they had on display. I really liked the color and brightness. It was noticeably sharper than the other HDTVs they had setup such as the Olivia, Philips and Magnavox. Now I am on the look out for the 46 inch model. So far the usual electronic stores don't have it in stock but did see that Sears has it listed on their website. By the way, if you live in the Dallas Fort Worth area, today's Fry's ad has both the 40 and 46 inch tvs on sale. The ad doesn't specify the model but if you look at the item number on their website it will bring up the appropriate model.

Yeah, 80 can be brutal, but at least you'll end up with a bitchin' TV.

Sony seems to be a bit slow on getting these sets out but they are around. According to their website, CompUSA in San Rafael seems to have some.

This is probably an isolated incident, but the remote sensor on the TV stopped working ! Tried different (universal) remotes and new battery, but it was dead. Thankfully, it was day 30 since my purchase, so got a smooth exchange at BB. Hope the new set will work out fine, for the TV itself is awesome

Could something else be wrong with your setup? That's awfully bad luck to get a seemingly rare issue twice on two seperate models and model years. People better think twice before letting you borrow their car.

To be fair, I wanted to pass on that I've been playing around with the different possiblities and noted that I only have this issue using my Pioneer DVR/DVD recorder. Perhaps the banding is actually just noise?

The puzzling thing is that I don't have this issue doing an identical comparison with my Panasonic 32" LCD.

Very strange....

[first post] I bought this TV after returning a Samsung lnt3253h because of tearing and audio drop outs. The PQ is really good from what I can tell as its my first hdtv. I have had no problems at all. I've got my PS3 hooked up through HDMI and Motorstorm looks awsome I've been playing online all night. Sony jacks up the price a bit on their TVs but I think its worth it. Oh and the kdl32s3000 looks very nice even turned off - I like to look at it. Highly recommended.

Here is my quick review of the 46s3000. I purchased it a Sears after a price match from Fry's. My old set was an 8 year old 36" Toshiba HD TUBE TV. I was "satisfied" with the picture but wanted something bigger and widescreen. Going from that TV to the new LCD made me realize what I had been missing all this time. Overall, a very nice HDTV. I let the TV scan for all available local channels first before trying out my directv hd signal. Local channels looked great. I immediately switch it from VIVID to Standard. Moving over to satellite yielded a very good picture. HD channels overall were fantastic. Some channels like ESPN HD needed me to set the picture to Cinema setting to reduce the picture noise but only on select programs like last Sunday's baseball broadcast. Standard def pictures look pretty good. I wasn't expecting miracles so I was happy with the picture. It does a good job of keeping things relatively sharp and maintain good color. I know, Directv SD can be pretty bad. Next was Xbox 360, which look great. Oblivion, Forza 2, everything was sharp and had great color throughout. I have to say I was VERY close to getting the new Panasonic plasma with the anti-glare coating but I think I would be hard pressed to find a better TV for the price and size.
