Will a new bulb cost more than the value of an IN72 with a dead bulb?

With the low price of this excellent projector and the high price of replacement bulbs, who thinks that replacing the bulb down the road will be cost prohibitive?

surely a year from now a better sub $500 projector will be available and may even be 720p. will there be bulbs priced low enough to justify a replacement or will a new bulb be 80% or more of the cost of a new budget 720p machine.

Also the resale of a bulbless IN72 must be terrible - $1-200? I am not complaining however as I think my IN72 was some of the best money ever spent and I have already received good value from it. Just wondering what my upgrade strategy should be down the road.

I don't think twice about putting $60 worth of ink cartridges in my $120 photo printer every month. In one year, that's $720 worth of ink!

You have to decide how much you want to spend and how often. If you have a good setup and it continues to make sense then the money is well spent.

I agree with you, but I know many folks will look at this and use this to justify upgraditis.

I'm sure many people justify buying a new printer based on the numbers you posted.

A new bulb will never cost more than a new IN72. You can write that down.

I look on ebay and people are buying used projectors with either no bulbs or bulbs with unknown life left for serveral hundred dollars. Add a new bulb at $250 to $350 and you could buy a new IN 72

I can't find an IN72 that last long enough for the bulb to be replaced. I think I'm on my 4th warranty exchange and this current one hasn't lasted 3 months. I knew something was up when a vertical line on the left side of the border outside the image was going crazy then going away, then a horizontal bar (bit wider) had a distinct purple hue, then the lamp was flickering like crazy, and today it just froze. Changed the source to HDMI and its black screen with the "Setting up Image" box in the bottom corner an its been like that for nearly half an hour. The sound on the disk it playing and everything was fine last night. It can't turn off the projector with the remote or the button. Its unresponsive.

I'm kinda curious, also. The bulb in my Optoma is nearing the end of its life, I fear, and I'm faced with 300+ for a new bulb, or just seeing if I can get a new PJ for 600 or 700. Then move the Optoma to another room and replace the dead bulb later when finances free up a little.
