Surge Protector - Loss of some HD channels...

Thread Starter
The cable connection on my surge protector (Panamax M5100-EX) seems to cause a couple of HD channels to be unviewable, mostly the local channels being broadcast in HD over cable. As soon as I bypass it, the problems go away. Is this normal? Or am I doing something wrong?

Fish-

There may be a voltage incompatibility with the protector with the latest HDTV systems. I know that Panamax has recently raised the clamping voltage of their broadcast over coax protectors to account for the higher gain of newer cable modems and the higher supply voltages of the latest satellite LNBs, among other things. I suggest you give them a call (800# is on the bottom label of your unit) and ask them what you can do to keep your equipment protected.

Good luck,

The problem is NOT the clamping voltage, the problem is bandwidth.

I would recommend you use a surge suppressor like this:

My company sells these exact same surge suppressors (but with our company logo on them) to cable companies worldwide.

Could you elaborate? Why would having not enough bandwidth only affect certain channels, and not all of them?

It probably has some cap's in it to filter "noise" but they happen to be filtering the channels too.
