My question is, will Best Buy repair or replace my set for free even though it's only under manufacturer warranty and I didn't buy a Best Buy service plan? This is what they have on their website: "We perform and process repairs during the warranty period, as part of a service plan, or for a fee."
I could read this one of two ways. One, it's a list that says they'll repair it if it's under the warranty, or if it's part of a service plan, or for a fee. Or two, it's saying that they'll do it under the warranty period only if you have a service plan, or for a fee. I have read some on this thread, but everyone seems to have gotten the the service plan. Does anyone know what they do if I don't have one?

call Westinghouse. complain about your TV. They with tell you to do some stupid things like turn your TV off, unplug it for several seconds....etc. Do all that (or dont) and call them back in a few days saying that you still have the problem. Now they should tell you that you can replace your TV at local BB store. They will call you back within a week and tell you confirmation number, wait another 2-5 business days (it has to process and go through the system) and go to BB store confirm that they received the number, bring your TV for replacement. (if BB store does not carry the model anymore, they can order it from Westinghouse or they should give you any other brand equally priced). Once you get confirmation number its all up to your Best Buy store, Westinghouse has nothing to do with this.

PS. Westinghouse has great customer support !

Now with the picture zoom set to "standard" I see this slight pink/purple line at the top, however if I zoom to "fill" then it isn't there at all. Is this a problem with my cable/hd receiver (the source) or is there a problem with the TV itself?

Thanks in advance.

I took some pictures last night of the above described abnormalities and attached them. I've noticed this problem on both my Comcast HD receiver (over component) and my xbox running XMBC (over component). I hooked up my Xbox 360 (over component) and did not notice this problem though... I am waiting on some HDMI cables in the mail to test alternate inputs, but regardless this doesn't seem specific to the source (my Comcast HD receiver) but possibly a problem with my component inputs and/or the TV itself... It's as if the image has 'slid' down and the bottom 1/8in of the screen is being repeated at the top. However a few channels don't have this problem but most 90%+ do.

What do you guys think? Does this seem like my TV has a problem? I wouldn't imagine this is normal... Should I call Westinghouse? Is there a way I can simply 'calibrate' my image? it looks like I just need to 'slide' the image up 1/8 in (if that), but I can't find anything in the manual to adjust the image.

Thanks in advance.

I think this has more to do with the TV not overscanning, and 1:1 pixel mapping. If you select the "fill" option, it will slightly overscan the image and it should go away.

exactly, if I choose "fill" then the abnormalities go away.

I guess my question still is, is this a problem with my tv or something a lot of people experience? can it be corrected? I'd like to think my tv should do 'standard' without these problems and it shouldn't be something that I necessarily have to 'put up with'...

My TV's "system info" says 5112_1.3.0

I'd like to upgrade it to the latest firmware. Can someone download it and post it up or pm me? Please show me how.

Beef6969, For now I would suggest you're OK without the serial number, because 5112_1.3.0 is the latest software...so you have nothing to download...

Isn't that the Oct 27th firmware? I think it's the latest.

Beefy we have the same model and firmware, can you tell me if when at a brightness of 41 and above you see white horizontal lines in blacks while looking at the screen from a side view. It should be pretty noticeable when you have a completely black image up. I suggest a wide screen DVD, so you have the two black bars on top and bottom - It's easily visible there)

Thanks.

Does the 'part number' matter when you select the firmware to download? it appears to be the exact same firmware package when you go to download it no matter the 'part number' you select... Which is "SusanII_v1.3.0_20071026.rar"

hmm, guess it doesn't, what are your tv specs, model number, part number, version.

id like to see how your tv responds to the update, im thinkin of doing mine.

Hi guys, I bought my TX42 about a month ago, and have been fairly happy with it.

I recently got my PS3 hooked up via HDMI, and I've been loving it except for a few things. Occasionally the HDMI inputs play dumb. It'll flip over to the HDMI input I set, but then keep telling me "No Input Detected" sometimes I have to cycle back and forth between Component and HDMI to get it to recognize. I had to do this a few times last night before I finally got it to work.

The real problem came today. I turned everything on, and bam "No Input Detected.".. k.. it was working when I turned it all off last night.. what changed? So I fiddle with it, change cables, change inputs, nothing gets it to work. Great. Hook the PS3 up via component, and bam we're back in business. Ok, so I know the PS3 is at least sending some output.

Unplug component. hook HDMI back up, and reset the PS3 to its default video settings. Still nothing. I changed the cables back to component, and I can see things again. The PS3 did recognize that it was HDMI, because it asks about changing the audio to HDMI out. Awesome.

My cable box from TWC has HDMI out (Scientific Atlanta HD8300). I hooked it up to the HDMI cable, tried a few different inputs on the TV, and none of them show up, but again, component does. My brothers going to bring up his HDMI cables and his DVD player that does HDMI out so we can rule out if it's a cable issue or otherwise, but I can't imagine that it is. Both the HDMI cables I used are less than 2 weeks old. The HDMI out on the PS3 was working just fine last night.

I'm stumped. The only thing I can think is something went screwy in the TV and now NONE of the HDMI outputs are working. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Any suggestions for me? I'm still within the 30 days to return to Best Buy, but I'd like to avoid having to replace it as that's a HUGE PITA since I don't have the box anymore.

God I hope it's something easy and stupid you guys can help with.

Thanks all.

I wouldn't recommend that. At least for my version of TV it says there are no updates. At least one person here installed the firmware for the wrong hardware revision and bricked their TV, so I suggest not trying that.

no, i qualify for the update, i checked on the firmware website, and my tv specs qualify for the same update he is about to get.
It's the April build people that would brick their TV's if they did the update. They have a different video processor.
Did you try unplugging the tv? This happened to me a few times and unplugging it fixed it right up.. for a while.

^Yup...you got to unplug it, once you do that and plug it back in - everything will be fine.

I had an april build, and it didn't brick. It already had the 1.3 update though, but it still ran.

There is no problem with your tv or your receiver.

The tv station is simply sending you a signal with a purple line on top. Your tv is showing you all of the signal that they're sending you, complete with the purple line on top of it.

You don't usually see this on other tvs because most tvs don't show you the signal that they're sending you. Instead, they blow up the picture slightly so that you see the middle 95% or so of the picture and the edges disappear.

If you want your tv to act like most tvs, just set it to fill. If you want to see the picture as transmitted, leave it on standard.

Just for fun... turn off "De-Interlacing" and see if it makes a difference.

I was one of the unlucky who bricked their TV by applying the incorrect firmware. If there is no update listed on the website when you enter your exact serial and part numbers, then I strongly recommend against attempting to apply the firmware for another part number.

I'd like some opinions, please. My TX-42 is a September build with the 5112_1.1.0 firmware. Those of you who have upgraded from 5112_1.1.0 to 5112_1.3.0 -- are you glad you did? Or do you wish you could go back to the old firmware? I'm trying to decide whether to take the plunge.

Nesto, I have the exact same problem. I have Sept 2007 build and the v1.2 firmware, trying to "upgrade" to v1.3. I can see the TV's USB port "reading" my flash device with the extracted software. I tried two flash devices, but the update just will not load. Anyone have any ideas?
Make sure you extract the *.img file, AND the other file onto the flash drive. Don't unzip the other file after you extract it from the rar file, just put it on the flash drive.

is there any reason not to upgrade your firmware?
Well anyone with the 5112_1.2.0 should update. You can completely shut off dynamic contrast.

Since we don't have a list of what the update does exactly that's all I can tell you that i've noticed.
I think it lets you adjust every picture setting and not just "User" as well (or was that an earlier one?). But yeah, a complete list would be nice.

Does anybody's remote have issues? The Recall and Favorites buttons don't always work properly. I don't know if it's the TV or the remote...

Have you (or anyone) noticed any glitches since upgrading? My set is working fine, and I can certainly adjust my dynamic contrast (don't know if the off setting is off completely, but I don't notice a problem). It's not unusual for a firmware upgrade to screw up a functioning system -- I like having the latest version, but that's me -- my problem is I can't seem to get the upgrade to load! Suggestions on that front are welcome (I'm fairly computer literate, so I can't imagine what the problem is -- the flash drive is definately detected by the TV, but it doesn't load).

Describe the procedure you are using.

What do you mean "completely shut off dynamic contrast??" I have firmware version 5110_1.1.0, Apr 13, '07

I have thought about upgrading but *knock on wood* have not had any real issues. I do recall even after turning off dynamic contrast, there are some strange things that still happen, so the new firmware fixes this?

What's the process that needs to be done to get the latest firmware? I posted in this thread a while ago, but have not been reading it much lately. Thanks.
Can anyone email the 1.3 firmware to me? I have spent endless time on the westinghouse support site typing in my serial trying to get it after I have registered it and it keeps saying it's not in their database.

yeah. we need list of updates for different firmware, and list of changes to different versions of TX47.
