I Need Help From Owners Of PS3 + Sony STRDA5200ES or other LPCM Receiver

Hi all,

I just got an Sony STRDA5200ES receiver tonight and hooked it up to the PS3 with glee, and I have to say PCM soundtracks off Blu-ray movies are absolutely amazing.

However, I am pretty annoyed that I can no longer listen to the MP3's on the PS3's hard drive in any kind of pro logic mode, only stereo.
It seems that the PS3 outputs all audio via HDMI as LPCM 48khz, and the STRDA5200 will not change modes at 48khz.

I can turn off some of the LPCM settings in the audio settings, but Blu-rays wont play in full 5.1. I don't want to have to keep changing back and forth.

Any one have a solution or a work around or something that could help me?

Much appreciated!

Cheers

It's not a Sony receiver/amp issue. It's just that by default the PS3 outputs as MPCM 7.1 (if enabled) with only the L and R channels enabled.

The AV amp doesn't know the other channels are muted.

It's the same with my RXV-2700.

If you have upgraded your firmware to 1.80, and have a display that can handle 1080p24, can you check if the PS3 outputs in 1080p24 when using the AV receiver as an HDMI switch?

Man, that sucks. So there has to be a firmware upgrade to allow it. Me thinks thats somewhat down in the list of things to be done...

And no, I have a V series Bravia which doesnt support 24p.

Thanks for your help.

Is this correct? Can this be fixed in a firmware upgrade potentially?

I have this same issue. I'm assuming that you've got your PS3 connected with an HDMI cable? The only thing I'd suggest is to hook up an optical cable, and then switch the audio output settings when you want to play a PS2 game or demo.

Hi,

I also have the same units and can not get my AMP to work properly.

I setup the BD/DVD settings in the PS3 to Linear PCM via HDMI and Linear PCM via optical

I connect both cables to my STRDA5200ES (which I bought yesterday) and there is no audio via the HDMI and there is only Linear PCM 48Khz via optical.

I set up the PS3 to out put to HDMI in the AUTO mode (all the codecs) and the unit says that audio is not available through the HDMI for this component?

WTF?

I just want to be able to hear and use the best surround sound from my BLU RAY movies.

Anyone know how to set this up?

Thanks.
