Sweet christ people. First, I suppose the O&A fans should appreciate the humor in this thread being started on a friday. Now, to everyone calling the two of them rip off hacks...please give Jimmy Norton some credit as well.
As far as their career with CBS, I would thing that when the station changed formats to move away from talk radio, if they were going to move the boys out, that would have been the time. The fact that they kept the morning show despite dropping almost all other talk shows is indicative of their plans.
To the 0.0 dummies. When you start in a market you have a 0.0 share. I am sure this will fall on deaf ears, but seriously, enough with the 0.0 nonsense. The fact that new affiliates are picking up the show is a much better indication of its popularity and marketability than ratings are. If they didn't think they would gain an audience, they wouldn't be on.
Bottom line right now, O&A are making the headlines like howard used to. They get the tv interviews talking about whats happening in radio, like howard used to. They are the ones pushing the envelope, like howard used to. They have the rabid fan base like howard used to. However, they are simply more intimate with their fans than howard is now. Things like the Traveling Virus tour, karaoke gatherings, and the live shows they do during the year are simply unmatched by howard now. Even howard himself has said he is done with radio when his contract is over.
Unfortunately, having this conversation with most stern fans is like talking to a four year old. I get it...he did a lot of radio. Just because he did some bit back in 84 doesn't mean that Opie, Anthony, and Jimmy aren't making funny radio that is worth listening to.
