looks nice, but how is it better than the 7188?

it still uses the same chip, right? when will we get non-wobulated 1080p for RP? seems like DLP development has sort of stalled, except for LED or laser, which we still don't get in larger sizes.

Get a front projector. I'm not sure of the price range, but the bottom is somewhere around $6k. A RPTV set would probably cost more that that. Of course an installed and operating front projector will too.

Do you have any computer/game hookups to see how it handles 1080P input from that type of source? (ie, overscan set to 0-1%? 1:1 mapping et al. without going into the service menu)

Is the angle of view any better/worse than w/ the 7178? (wondering as they got that extra inch from somewhere).

They got the inch by reducing the width of the bezel, but the light engine mounts are probably adjusted slightly to compensate.

Actually that's good news about the bulb being 180W. would provide a higher cd/m^2 rating after calibration then which is good when watching normal shows during the day.

You said that ABT had them in chicago area I wonder how much longer it will take to get them to the other B&M's. This has really snagged my interest.

Ok, lost my patience and ordered the HL-T7288W from ABT (Thanks jnelson2000 for the tip). Should be arriving for the weekend. Now I just have to get on the ball and figure out what I am going to do with the HTPC setup.

Well don't have any pics of the setup yet (digital camera is screwed up). But some impressions, just got the set last weekend myself.

First item of note is that the set is 'shrinking' each day. First day "Bloody hell", 2nd day "huge", 3rd day "big", now "decent sized picture". :P

Unfortunately, I don't have HD DVD/Blueray so this would only be for SD DVD media. Set is bright, colours are pretty good (though could really use an ISF calibration which I'm planning on doing in the next couple months). Angle of view/off-axis viewing is pretty much the same as the 7178 and comparable with any other DLP that I've seen.

With SD content it really matters on the quality of the disc (I'm using the Zensonic Z500 player which upconverts to 1080P/60) on good mastered discs (Harry potter, matrix, criterion ones et al) the quality is pretty much the best I'd expect is possible out of SD. Really is making me re-think the 'wait for the war to end' position on HD media.

Have not played any computer games on it yet (mainly due to zero time) but that's next for the upcoming weekend.

Wow, This TV is amazing.the brightness, clarity sharpness is all amazing. I had a Mitsubishi dlp set a couple years old and it doesn't even come close to this.
I connected a ps3 and xbox 360 to it.
PS3 via HDMI and Xbox 360 via component. All I can say is the resolution is unbelievable. Yes the tv is upconverting hd movies from the xbox 360 add-on to 1080p and its just as clear as the ps3 blueray movies. It is a very nice looking set too, aside from the enormous size 72 in.
Even my regular standard dvd upscaled through the ps3 look better than I've ever seen before. They seriously look like high def and they are scaled to 1080p.
This tv was the perfect purchase especially that it upconverts component to 1080p.I was going to go out and buy a toshiba Hd player for the HDMI but I am glad i didn't.

Has anyone tried this TV with PC at 1920x1080 resolution? What is the size of the physical overscan, and is there perfect 1:1 pixel mapping?

Hi all - I'm a newbie to AVS Forum and just ordered the HL-T7288W. Got a great deal through Abt Electronics thanks to all the research I did on this great board. I'm upgrading from an 8 year old Mitsu 55" Diamond 1080i set which is still going strong...I'm just tired of our 16 foot viewing distance and the small screen from afar

I would have gone with a projector, but my room has lots of windows and no way to close it off from the rest of the house, and it would be impossible to get it dark enough in the day time for viewing, so the RPTV was my only choice and the Sammie 72" was the best value I could find for a huge set.

Having a bit of trouble finding a reasonably priced and low profile stand/cabinet to put it on, though...hopefully I don't have to make one :x

My DirecTV HD DVR upgrade gets done Monday, probably before the set arrives...scored a free DVR, free installation, and 3 months of free service. DirecTV, hurry up and launch more HD channels! Boy how I wish FioS was available here.

The rest of my system consists of an old but fantastic sounding set of B&W fronts and center channel, some Klipsch in-walls for the rears, and a (forget the brand) 12" sub. I have a Denon prog. scan DVD (recently also bought a Philips DIVX DVD that seems to do some upscaling) and a Harmon Kardon receiver...

I look forward to getting my set, setting it up, calibrating it, and watching! We don't yet have PS3 or Xbox 360, but I'm sure those and HD DVD and/or Blu Ray are in the cards.

I just posted in a competing thread. Our store is getting them July 19. They are currently offering 3-year interest-free financing until July 7. That was too strong a lure for me to resist.

UPDATE

My set arrived earlier than expected - Friday evening just before a storm. Needless to say, I was impatient and wanted to get it inside as quickly as possible. My wife and I were easily able to lift and manipulate it into place. We've watched several movies and so far are very happy with the PQ. I had a little trouble getting it set up and working with my Harmony 659 remote (still doesn't work quite right) and will keep on trying until it works properly.

I also adjusted to some of the recommended specs from Eliab in another thread, but had to tweak further from there so far to meet visual requirements. I do want to get hold of a calibration disc to complete a full brightness/contrast adjustment one of these days. With a dark room, the blacks still look a little gray with the brightness at acceptable levels and with contrast lower than it should be...

I also tried using the "WISELINK" (USB) connection on the side and was unable to get my 320GB Western Digital "My Book" external hard drive to be recognized by the set. Not sure why, may look into it some later.

By lunch tomorrow, I should have HD DVR from DirecTV installed and running. Now, I need to order a stand. I've narrowed it down to either a Sanus WFV66 or a Sanus CFV69. If anyone has feedback on these two please let me know. My requirements for choosing were 1) cherry wood design, 2) under 24" high, 3) at least as wide as the TV.

I think that about covers it for now. More info as I use it. I hope to read other updates from you all as well.

Your TV only does 1080p. If the input is anything else, then the TV converts the input to 1080p. Of course it has to guess about the missing data more for SD signals than it does for HD signals.

Right...perhaps a better comment would have been "even low resolution source content looks amazing once upconverted to 1080"? In any case, even sitting 5 feet from the screen, watching HD content is incredible and even a DVD looks awesome.

I still need to borrow a friend's calibration disc but for now, we are very happy with the setup. If only our table would hurry up and get here.
