HL-T7288W...First impressions - Page 2

Just got my HL-T7288W yesterday, Saturday, and after setting it up I was horrified at the first HD, Wimbeldon coverage on NBC. Had to get back 30 feet to not see problems, BUT..... I was just a lousy feed, after that I was totally blown away with the pictures of the LPGA open and the Buick open. the best picture I have ever seen on a home tv, we are totally happy with our Sammy.

We brought ours home today to replace a Mits 65809 and the Blu-Ray movies look fantastic off the PS3. HD material is stunning as well. Great reception on the HD tuner (pulls channels much better than our panny plasma upstairs). However, SD is a bit tough to watch.

I also noticed during the black screen credits after one of the films that we have a shadow appearing in the upper left hand portion of the screen. I would say that it measures about 5" high by 12" across and appears lighter than the rest of the screen when everything should be black. Almost looks like burn in, but our box was sealed and I know we did not do it.

I verified that it is not a shadow coming from other light sources.

Has anyone else seen this on their 7288?

I'll see if it clears up in the next week or so. Otherwise, we'll swap it out for another.

It sounds like an internal reflection which are common in RPTV sets. It might be a good idea to see if you are ever bothered by it watching your normal viewing sources.

I saw that you say it has Deep Color Support. When I looked on the samsung website it said nothing about x.v. color support or deep color support. Is it possible for a tv to have hdmi 1.3 and not support x.v or deep color?

Also does this tv have 120hz compatibility?

I am thinking about buying a HL-T7288W. In the thread "2007 Samsung HL-Txx76 Owner's Thread" they are talking about a lot of problems with bowing. Does anyone know if the HL-T7288W has the same problem or is it only on the 76S models with the weaker bezel?

... and/or extremely thin case.

I'd really like to check out the HL-T7288W before making any decisions on purchasing it, but no store in my area has one.

Anyone know of a store in the Southern California area that has a HL-T7288W on display?

When pillar boxed, my images are quite noticeably bowed...I'm not sure what to make of it.

ended up going with the hls7178s... the onky thing i miss from the 7228 is the 1.3hdmi with deep color support

I measured the bowing on my set and it is 1/4 of an inch out across the top, with no bowing along the bottom. That seems pretty close to what I would expect is the spec. So, don't sell this set short just yet.

Again, the image is fantastic. Better than the 70XBR2 and 73 Mitsu that we compared it to at various stores. Colors are breathtaking. PS3 games look amazing with no lag. Blu-Ray movies are to die for.

For the money, this has to be the best large set going. I thought about waiting for the XBR5, but I really cannot imagine a better PQ than what Samsung has delivered this time around. Of course, the Sony will look nicer sitting in the media room, but to me that's not going to be worth the extra $1300-1500 more when it comes out.

If you're contemplating a large set, you owe it to yourself to find a store with a 7288 display and check it out.

So I just bought one from One-Call they were the only one on the west coast to have it in stock. BB said not till end of july. 3 days to get it via Fed Ex to So Cal from Spokane, WA. Going to set it up this weekend and can't wait. I hope this is as good as my Sam LN-T5265F I have in the master.

I have an older HL-R7178w that has a very glossy screen that was not on the other sizes. My parents need a new TV so I wanted to know if the HL-T7288W has a glossy screen as well? They have a room with a lot of windows so glare would be a big problem. The current smaller size DLPs don't have the glossy screen but I just wanted to double check before ordering.

No, it's not glossy at all. Our room has a ton of windows (photos once our Sanus stand comes in) and we can watch without a problem in broad daylight.

Ok so I have the Tv setup but only to the Tivo S3 ..need to setup the A20 and Sammy 1200 this weekend..But was wondering what settings or calibrations if any you guys have done yet??

I am curious to learn how much the calibration improves upon the PQ out of the box. If they can get the image to look any better, I may never be able to leave the couch.

so today I was watching the Yanks & Angels on Fox in HD it was awesome I'm not a baseball fan but couldn't get past the picture. Can't wait to watch a BRay movie

So I just sent a email to David Abrams to setup a date and time to do my HL-T7288W and also my LN-T5265F.

Would one of you measure and post for me the actual width and height of the screen itself, leaving out the frame?

I'm trying to find a stand the right height so that I end up with the center of the screen at eye level.

Any suggestions? I'd ideally like one that has media storage in addition to components.

Well, the TV came yesterday. My lord this thing is a beast, even having a 65" tv previously. After setting it up and connecting the PS3 for some quick movie viewing, god it looks fantastic. Can't wait to watch more stuff on it!

I was looking into buying this TV and came across the manufacturer's brochure on bestbuyplasma (can't link because this is my first post.)

This is, I'm assuming, where most people saw the 120Hz refresh rate on the last page. However, on the 3rd page, I saw the Cinema Smooth Film Mode 3:2 Pull Down feature. Note the different images associated with Interlaced, Progressive Cinema, and Progressive. I was surprised that a display with a 120Hz refresh rate would need to use 3:2 pulldown on a 24fps source. I just called up Samsung and spoke with someone from their tech department, and he told me that this TV has a 60Hz refresh rate.

Does this TV support 1080p@120Hz, or does it conduct 3:2 pulldown on 24fps?

I just pulled the trigger on this monster and will take delivery on Sunday.

Funny that this set was much cheaper than what I paid for the soon to be retired HLN617W I purchased years ago.

It was between this and the new 63" Sammy plasma. The plasma was simply beautiful, but even with its anti-glare screen, it would have been way too reflective in my situation.

The Sharp 65" LCD kept taking my eye as well, but that was out of my budget. Plus the Sammy is a great value.

Had fun tweaking the picture at the store and cannot wait to see how good the pic really is when I have the chance to use it the real world and calibrate it with DVE.

Will report back once I get to play with it.

Went back to the store again today with the wife.

Getting the plasma instead.

We doubt that glare will be a problem as our house is not as bright as the store.

We will see soon enough. It should come tomorrow in place of the 7288W.
