i tried switching the analog inputs to the 'CD' input on the 605, and still nothing. My only thought is that the cable box doesn't send audio across HDMI and analog at the same time.

Yep. Unfortunately it sounds like that's the case.

I have my system hooked up with 1 HDMI out and all various sources outputted to the 1 HDMI. My question is has anyone had issues with video switching? If I reset the 605 it works fine but after a few days it will not switch component. I had the same issue with the 6100 HTIB but it got so worse it would not switch HDMI either and is still in for repair due to back ordered part. I can not see how it could be one of my sources causing this as they are a DVD HDMI, DTV HDMI, and a karaoke microphone via component.

ok, i was feeling ok about my setup till i read this forum and seen lots of talk of crossover settings.

Would someone please give these settings a once over, and is there anything i would gain from changing the x-over frequencies.

here goes,

Onkyo 605 Amp,

Mission 773 floorstanders : recommended 25-100 Watt (bi-wired) 50-20,000 hertz.
Mission 77ds sorrounds : recommended 20-75 Watt, 80-20,000 hertz
Mission 77c centre : recommended 25-100 Watt, 65-20-000 hertz
generic subwoofer : only 40W with variable bass cross over point, apparently.

Now audysey automatically gave the following setup:

Subwoofer : yes
Front : Full band
Centre: full band
Surround : 80Hz
lpf to lfe : 100 HZ
Double bass : On

i was thinking of changing to the following settings:

Subwoofer : yes
Front : 100Hz
Centre: 100Hz
Surround: 80Hz
Lpf to LFE : Havent got a clue!
Double bass : On (i'm hoping this will accomodate for crappy subwoofer till i get a better one)

Thanks for any advice,

I wonder if my subwoofer could be causing this? I recently noticed my HK sub is not powering up, it is stuck in stand by mode. Since I disconnected it I have had no audio shut downs. Just seems odd that my Onkyo started having problems at the same time my sub is. I will never buy Harman Kardon anything ever again. My reciever had issues from day 1 and now my sub is shot after 1 year.

Hey guys, I just got some new jamo e660 floorstanding speakers and the jamo s60 cen center speaker. I ran the audyssey setup and it set the floorstanding speakers to full band. It was far too quiet for my liking so I feel I need to change the crossover settings.

Is there a general rule to follow when setting crossover frequencies? Such as doubling the lowest frequency #?

If it helps... http://www.jamo.com/na-en/products/e...pecifications/

I've had my HT-SP908 system with the 605 for about two years now and it's my second Onkyo receiver. I'm a bit frustrated and seeing as few others seem to have my complaint I'd figure I'd ask. I had a similar problem with the older Onkyo too. I've used an Oppo 981, Panny BD-35, and now a Samsung BD-2550. For whatever reason it is very difficult to hear voices on many DVDs and Blu Rays (usually center channel). When I turn the volume way up the left, right, and LFE channels become unbearably loud. I've messed around with the speaker levels and the center is still well above the others. For watching TV, including DD 5.1, everything sounds fine. It is only when watching Blu-Rays and DVDs are things hard to hear. I have everything hooked up via HDMI. Late Night and Cinema Filter are both off. Thoughts?

On the popping issue. My 602 still does that and makes some other weird noise on a semi-regular basis, probably a leaky capacitor due to the heat issue--but with the firmware updates, my 605 makes no annoying noises at all. Still prefer my Pioneer VSX01TXH. On the plus side, you can get the 605s pretty cheap since they no longer make them.

way late, but when I say always on, I mean its always on when the TVs on. I do not leave it on all the time.

Ill have the check again but I think it was made after the firmware update so it should have it.

Pick a channel, like front left. Set the level calibration for FL to 0db in the setup, then turn on the sound meter and crank the volume knob up until it reads 75db. Then proceed as you would on an 805 calibrating the other channels by adjusting the level calibrations.

Thanks Kplex, never would have thought that I needed to set the volume knob on the 605 to 75..So 75 on the volume knob on the 605 ='s 75db

No, I meant crank the volume up until the sound meter reads 75db, whatever number that is on the 605.

Hello all,

I've found a 605 locally on craigslist and I was wondering (because I need a remote for my blu ray too) is the remote that comes with the receiver programmable and will the remote for the 605 control the sony bdp-s300 blu ray player?
Anyone using the 605 with a Samsung LCD TV?

Samsung LN32A450

I've gone thru all the Samsung remote codes in the Onkyo manual, and not getting any response from the TV.

Thanks for any help!

The 605 remote is programmable, I believe you can find the codes here: http://onkyousa.com/download/own_man...Remote Control

I am, with an older model Samsung LCD, the year before yours. It worked with the first code I tried.

Question: Does the TX-SR605 apply all Audyssey and bass management settings to TrueHD and DTS-MA bitstreams? I've only used my 605 for listening to LPCM via the PS3, never tried it with a bitstream-capable blu-ray player. As far as I know the receiver won't apply the post-processsing to LPCM. Anyone know for sure whether the post-processing is applied in bitstream mode?

I just got one of these receivers, and it seems that the Audyssey equalization is NOT applied to True HD and DTS-MA bitstreams, but it IS applied to Multichannel PCM (and everything else).

Bass management and speaker levels are applied always, except when in "Direct" mode.

I have read conflicting reports about what is going on with the Audyssey light, and some users report their Audyssey light being on when decoding DTS-MA and True HD. I called Onkyo tech support, and at least the guy I talked to said that my unit is normal, in that the Audyssey equalization is not applied during decoding of DTS-MA and True HD. I have read other reports on the web that Onkyo tech support has said that there is a bug with the Audyssey light, and it IS being applied during decoding of DTS-MA and True HD. For what it's worth, from my ears, I think it is NOT being applied.

You should be ok with the PS3, since you can send LPCM 7.1. I have a Sony S550, which will send LPCM 7.1 if the receiver is not capable of decoding True HD and DTS-MA (it knows via the HDMI "handshake"), but there is no way to force LPCM 7.1 if the receiver is capable (as it is in our case), so I am switching to a Panasonic player. The Sony player is too smart for its own good!

Hope that helps,
Mark

I have a 7.1 setup. Onkyo product support just told me that it is normal for the side speakers, rather than the rear speakers, to play the rear channels when watching a 5.1 blu ray or tv broadcast. It is counter-intuitive that a rear surround broadcast would be moved to the side when playing over a 7.1 system. Is this an issue specific to Onkyo, or is this normal as product support says? I would have thought the rear surround broadcast would come out the rear speakers and that the side speakers would be silent until a 7.1 source was played.

Most recommendations I've seen in the past recommended 5.1 channel setup for surround speakers to be slightly behind the viewer and up high. See http://www.dolby.com/consumer/home_e...ide/index.html

I recently purchased an lg bd270 and I am trying to run the hdmi connection through the 605 to a panasonic ptae 500 projector. i can connect the BD direct to the projector and it works no problem, but through the 605 the screen flashes and never seems to sync up. is there any way I can make this work? I've tried sequencing the startup manually, but to no avail. my old DVD player was component into the 605, so this is my first attempt at running hdmi switching through the receiver. I would like to avoid buying an external hdmi switch if possible. i apologise if this has already been answered, I have been unable to find the solution by searching.
thanks

Sounds to me like a handshake/HDCP problem. While the screen is flashing try disconnecting the HDMI cable from the 605's port, then reconnect. At times, that's worked for me, such as last week when setting up a new PC and monitor using HDMI.

I was told by the service center that it is a bad idea to unplug and plug back in with power applied. They also blamed that for the reason my HDMI switching circuit board went bad.

I certainly wouldn't argue with their recommendation, but if connecting or disconnecting HDMI with power applied can cause a circuit failure it says to me that they shortcut on the circuit design, specifically didn't provide suitable suppression for spikes that would occur under those conditions. Mine had a failure where one channel of the amp stuck on and the output protection failed due to a cracked main board during manufacture which burned out the speaker that was attached.

1. Will any multi-HDMI switcher plugged into either one of the 605's HDMI IN ports work so I can add another HDMI source thru the 605 to my TV?

2. Which switchers seem to work best with the 605?

All I want to do is hook up my laptop's HDMI port to my TV thru the 605 HDMI ports so I can maintain the audio quality I now have with my home theater system. Just hooking up my laptop's HDMI directly to one of my TV's HDMI IN ports will offer great video but lousy audio.

Thanks!

I have a Monoprice 5 X 1 with BD, DVD and Dish DVR plugged in. I even managed to program it into my Harmony One remote so I basically don't even know it's there. Best $34 plus shipping I've spent in a while. I never tried another so can't say but I do recommend this one. 5X1 Enhanced 1.3b Certified HDMI Switch with built-in Equalizer (REV.3.0) w/ Remote | Auto/Powered HDMI Switch
