I got intresting technical advice on HDCP from Comcast

Thread Starter
So all of a sudden my comcast DVR tells me my copyright has been compromised and basically shuts down. (I have the MJ DVI input card). I recently switched out my cable box and now have the 3416.

Okay, so I call comcast to try and figure out what has changed in the last 2 weeks since I have received this box that is giving me the error.

Me: call comcast - First read the error to technical support
Her: I understand, this should not be happening bla bla bla
Me: So what should I do
Her: Let me see, so where is the HDCP located
Me: Huh
Her: Have you just added HDCP to your system
Me: what are you trying to ask. Do you know what HDCP is?
Her: Yes I have one as well
Me: Huh
Her: What do you not understand
Me: What do you think this is
Her: What did you ask me about again, HD TV
Me: No HDCP, the copyright protection
Her: ok now I understand, I have one of those also
Me: One of what
Her: An HDCP
Me: (just having fun now) You have a separate box for HDCP decoding
Her: I used to have one
Me: Do you really understand what HDCP is
Her: Let me look it up
Her: Can I schedule a technician to come out

Happy ending, I was able to get it working again, but hope this is not a persistent issue.

So Comacst is just as dumb as the COX reps here in AZ.

I tell you, that the qualifications to work for cable companies must be really quite supprising.

Amasing.

I always get asked if the TV is on Channel 3 when setting up an HDTV cable box for my customers. Im like NO its not its set to the component input dummy. lol Or one better is when Im doing a theater install Im like, This TV doenst have Channels lol.

You should have told her that external HDCP boxes are in violation of the HDCP standard, and if she did not nix it on the QT she would run afoul of the MPAA and DMCA.
