Not low, their sensitivity is very high. 2.8V is just too high for any receiver in the market. Even the $5000 receivers dont put out more than some 1.2V max.
People who dont have problems with amp-receiver combo are those who are using high efiiciency speakers. Speakers like Magnepan MG12, even if run above 80Hz, need a lot of power. So even with an amp rated as 1000W into 4omhs, I cant drive these speakers as my receiver does not output more than a fraction of a volt to get enough power out of the amp. The spec of 1V or 1.2V on the receiver is its max. I am not insane to run the receiver at full volume. So I am only getting some 0.5V or less which is ridiculously low to drive these amps.
Sure I can use a 2ch analog pre-amp but they dont come with bass management, room correction and all those goodies. So I dont want to spend money on a 2ch analog pre-amp. If I had perfect speakers and perfect room then I dont need bass management, EQ/room correction etc. But I dont live in an ideal/perfect world, especially when my wallet is not fat.
People just look at the numbers like 500W or 1000W and say that it is more than ample for any room. it is not about the room. It is about how demanding the speakers are and how easily I can drive these amps to get enough power out of them.
Just because some one can use these amps to drive their speakers does not mean that these amps would work for everyone.
Anyway...my goal is not to troll about D-Sonic. I came here to find out if this would be an amp I can use but it looks like it is not. Since they have a 21-day return policy with 10% restocking fee, I would probably try the M1000 as I dont lose much i.e I dont have to put it up on Audiogon if it does not work for me and lose a lot of money. I only lose 10% and shipping which is worth spending on a new technology to find out how good it is for my needs.
