D-Sonic custom Audio amps - Page 32

I don't have a lot of experience with amps, but I do have an Adcom 7707 and a D-Sonic 7 channel amp. If I could get a good price, I'd sell the adcom and buy another d-sonic. I think they sound fantastic and my girlfriend who doesn't care about this stuff can tell the difference and she too prefers the d-sonic. ICE give you a lot of bang for you buck, but they'll help you save when PG&E comes a knocking.

I have been looking for a used 2 or 3 channel d-sonic on audiogon for a few months now. It seems nobody is selling these.

Not surprised. They're so good and such a great value why would anyone want to sell them.

Y'all stop it or I'm gonna buy one. I've read all the "do you really need an amp threads" and even though I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to notice any improvement, I still have the urge to try one. So maybe I'll get one and do my own comparison and if I can't tell any benefit I'll put it up for sale, then there will be one out there on the market.

It comes with a free home trial, you have nothing to lose except the cost of the amp as you won't want to return it.

Really? There's nothing on the d-sonic.net web page about return policy. That's great to know.

Haha, I'm confused too! After reading pages and pages of stuff, you'd think that there would be a more definitive answer, but apparently there are way too many variables.

Sure, variables are an irrefutable fact.
But so is the fact the D-Sonics are close to as good as it gets regardless of how much you spend. It's something you could buy and down the road mate with any caliber of pre-pro, or that can handle any speaker you might want to upgrade to as well.

Can't find any spec regarding (voltage) input sensitivity. Does anyone know or can point me in the right direction? Specifically interested in the 1500-3 and 2500-7.

The amplifier modules are installed with aerospace quality switches.

I saw that, but I think that referrs more to its build quality.

Nobody knows how much voltage input required to hit max/ref power output??

Plug it into a 110 volt outlet and you'll have more power than you will ever need.

I'm not questioning the D-Sonic, I'm more concerned that my current receiver won't have sufficent voltage output from the pre-outs. Likewise, if the D-Sonics end up requiring very little voltage to acheive max output then I may be able to scale back and get the 250W model instead.

You should contact Dennis. He should have the information you need.

Why?

Why?

Just trying to make sure I get at least 400w from the amp when used with my receiver. Anything more than 400w is gravy, anything less and I may just scrap whole amp idea altogether. As it stands right now, I don't actually need an amp, I just really really want one Something about peace of mind and ignorance being bliss

Yup, looking like I'll need to do that. While I'm at it I may as well ask if he can custom build a 7x500w amp too, don't know if that is even possible

Why not just buy 7 McIntosh MC501's?

Don't have the space, don't have the cash. Even if I did I'd be stupid to overpay just for the name as they offer no advantage. ICE amps are the only way to go baby.

I emailed Dennis about a week ago to inquire about his return policy but never got a reply. Does he typically not respond to emails? It's not a reassuring sign when you're considering a purchase.

I've never had an issue.

Thanks, I'll try again then. Maybe it got lost in the shuffle.

I emailed him again and he replied quickly today. My last email must have gotten lost in the shuffle.

So one last question for you guys here. I was going to order the 1500-3 to power my 3 Paradigm Signature S4s across the front. And I have the Pioneer SC-27 as my receiver. I'd like to see if the 500wpc makes a difference. Looks like that would cost me $169 (shipping + 5% restocking fee) if I didn't think it helped and obviously $2010 if it did help.

I thought about something like the 200W Emotiva amp, but it doesn't seem like that's a big enough difference in power to make an impact. Seems like the 500W would clearly answer the question. Anyone have any thoughts?
The Emotiva amps cannot even begin to compare with the D-Sonic Ice amps.
