Concur. Putting the title first followed by ", The" e.g. "Machinist, The" seems to be generally-accepted practice and IMO makes for easier lookup of data.
Also a general alphabetical re-ordering of the entries contained within each of the sections (Titles, Future Titles, Online retails links, and Additional links) would be good.

And now that our "demands" have been made , and given that it always takes someone to step up to the plate and do the actual work, it's time to say Thank you for the time and effort that you've spent on putting this one-stop-shop HD DVD import thread together

PS The factual info in this thread may warrant it being made a sticky (as long as it's kept up to date).

For those who have imported Rambo: First Blood, are there any audio issues with it? Zero speed up or sync problems detected? I really want this one but only if I can be assured by any fellow AVSers it perfect (well, as good as can be expected)? Thanks - excellent list/idea. =)

@ Schills

I have been searching around and as far as I can tell there are no known problems with any of the Rambo series in any HD-DVD player.

I too appreciate this information, but being new to the HD-DVD group, I might have missed this, so I have a couple of questions.

1. Does anyone know why these titles are not available in the US, or are they coming?

2. If you buy the imports are you paying in US currency?

Sorry if these questions have been answered already I just didn't see it.

1. These titles are not available in the US as the US studio (for example Sony or 20th Century Fox) has the rights to the movie.
However in other countries, like the ones on here, the studio with the rights to the movie may be different (for example in france, studio canal is a studio with rights to some US titles owned by other studios).
Then if this foreign studio is an HD DVD supporter they will release the film in their country for HD DVD.

On another note, yes some will be available in the USA but at a later date (this is only a minority of the imports)

PS. Never explained that before hope it is easy to understand.

2. Currency really depends which website you buy it from, some of the websites are US based so use dollars. (They get the imports from other countries and sell them in the US)

Awesome thread! Any idea when the other 3 import Harry Potter movies will be released?

A quick addition, the UK versions of Rambo are all the same as the ones you list (Just add UK to the brackets).

Thanks Dude, I am th_is close to pulling the trigger on First Blood now! I guess the icing on the cake for the list would be to include how the HD-DVD import is encoded, but I suppose thats asking a bit much - could search for that out for ourselves. =)

Thanks for the response, and I do understand. If possible, can you add a note or indicate somehow which sites accept US currency. I plan on ordering some of these titles. Thanks again, this is a very useful and helpful thread.

When you order online, you pay with your credit card. The currency conversion is automatic i.e. no need for you to pay in the local currency as the equivalent Dollar amount of the foreign currency price will be charged to your US cc based on the current forex rate.
Use the "Currencies Direct" site to work out how much the price of the movie + shipping, that you want to buy, will cost you in Dollars.

Or if you don't want to bother with that, then buy from Xploited Cinema. They're a US-based online retailer that do the importing for you and list their prices in USD. They don't carry all titles though, so you will have to visit the other online retail sites listed in the OP if you're interested in buying a title that Xploited don't (yet) list.

I can provide some level of detail on these Japanese discs from Toshiba Entertainment's and Shochiku Home Video's information pages though I don't have these discs myself. Some of them I'd like to have (especially Oldboy) but I've skipped buying due to lack of English subs. There's no info on the referred web pages about menu language but it's most likely Japanese only with possibly some English words used here and there for each of them. I added links to information pages in Japanese as well (click each title to access).

Killing Me Softly (Japanese release)
Audio: English DTS-HD 5.1, Japanese DTS-HD 5.1

Kannisto,

Thanks for the info. From some of the threads I've read, Japan seems to be BluRay territory (misinformation, I'd presume) so I'm really pleased to see HD DVDs being released there. Judging from your end, how is HD DVD doing and how is it being received?

Thanks!!!

Updated 'The Holiday' For other regions

An American Haunting (Maleficio) WILL have English Audio, Spanish subtitles are confirmed but it is unclear if they are optional or removable. Menu details are also unclear.
- More about this title will be available and added once it has been released in spain

Second that (certainly as long as the OP keeps it up to date).
And maybe a title change to more correctly reflect the intention of the list and the factual info contained therein; something like HD DVD Imports - One-stop-shop Thread maybe?

Never anything wrong with asking questions (as long as they're honest). After all, none of us can know everything there is to know in this universe...

Maybe just click on "report this post" and make the request.

Thanks for the help, I think I'll have to wait for the mods/admins to see it, it come up with this:

Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.
a couple suggestions here:

1) this must be a sticky
2) we need to keep a updated listing for each title on stuff like pitch/audio issues

I reported this thread to mods to sticky and change the title, I would say "HD-DVD Import Releases and Guide" would be good
