Question: Which countries usually have the best releases? I am debating on going all UK releases for the sake of the pitch issues on the French releases. Xploited has most of the movies I want however some of them are French releases. All the movies I want I could order from amazon.co.uk, but it will be more expensive.

How are the releases from different countries?

I am mainly looking at:

• Pan's Labyrinth [HD DVD] [2006]
• Mulholland Drive [HD DVD] [2001]
• The Island [HD DVD] [2005]
• Mr Bean's Holiday [HD DVD] [2007]
• Total Recall [HD DVD] [1990]
• The Graduate [HD DVD] [1967]

Just watched it!
PQ 4/5 there are some contrast issues in early forest shots, but appear to be related to the source, no compression artifacts noticed at all.
AQ 5/5 mostly dialogue driven but atmospheric effects very good and base very good when present. Although not reference quality for surround effects.

Would not recommend for preteens, think Ol Yeller and not Chronicles of Narnia.

BTW the dog survives.

What is the aspect ratio of "Bridge to Terabithia"? I know the BR is listed as 1.85:1, but Xploited lists the HD version as 2.35:1 & 1.78:1

Can't wait to hear DTS MA.

The pitch issue is with a few of the early Studio Canal releases. Mulholland Drive, Total Recall and The Graduate are three of these affected early titles. Where these SC transfers are released in another country, the pitch issue remains as the transfer used is the same; just repackaged for retail in the other country.

It is 1.78:1
You'll need at least FW 2.0 for the submenus, FW 1.6 doesn't work (A2)
Top menus are mostly in English.

Man, I remember watching that in 5th grade, I think I was 9. Depends on how fragile your kid's psyche is. But, parents would probably sue the school or something now, if they should a movie like that to kids that age. I was also watching R-rated horror movies at 7 or 8, like Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street. I ended up just fine.

i am having difficulty turning off subtitles with the french T2 release... i know the theatrical cut disc has forced subs but I can't get rid of them with my Toshiba XA2 even with the director's cut - any suggestions welcomed. thanks!!

Found this on HDnumerique (french HD website)

http://www.hdnumerique.com/actualite...nt-tropez.html

the official planning of the distributor
Gendarmes of Saint-Tropez 4 disc HD-DVD box set
proposed price of 39.99 euros.

Looks like a funny set of movies. And not a bad price for 4 movies. If it hold true

You pick the subtitle language you get with Studio Canal discs when you first insert the disc and choose a menu language. If you choose English as the menu language, then you don't get subs when watching the movie with the English audio track.
If you (inadvertently) choose another language, then you will get that language's subs when watching the movie.
Once you choose the menu language, that setting is stored in PStorage and is remembered next time you insert the disc into your player (i.e. you don't automatically get presented with the language menu screen anymore after that).
So to get back to the initial language menu screen and choose English as the menu language, go to the main movie menu and click on the little icon at the bottom. And voila! You're sorted.

quick question gentlemen...

realizing how vast some of the collections are outside of america when it comes to HD DVD (who says we're losing this war!?!? =P ), i am quite surprised at the amount of studios that have support in other countries.

i plan to explore the options of buying these imports...

1. hows xploited's reputation? are they a good company to use? which ones would you refer if needed? (considering they dont charge you an arm and a leg)
2. i really wanted to buy 3 days of condor... any opinions on this movie? PQ/AQ wise? i love the movie.
3. they mentioned forced subtitles from time to time. does that mean i cant take it out when i plan to watch these movies? =( bummer...
4. I own the tosh HD-A1 and most of em emphasize on not purchasing some/a few dvds. is this a hit and miss? if so how much of a ratio are we talking about here?

thanks in advance folks.

1. Xploited has to be the best import site on the net top notch service.
2. Haven't seen the movie yet.
3. Thiers only a few fourced subs movies but the ones that are are listed on the first page of this thred. So cheek their.

4. As far as imports working ( I think this is what your asking).
All but enemy at the gate work on the A1. But it does work on 2nd and 3rd gen players.
i second on xploited's reputation. fast service, tony responds to emails really quick, price is better than other sites.
i third.

last weekend i ordered 3 import hd-dvd's from them on a saturday and they were at my door on tuesday. had a problem with a cracked case, and the replacement case was here by friday.

absolutely TOP NOTCH service.

I've bought 17 imports from Xploited. They typically ship within 24-48 hours of ordering. You can compare the price by seeing what Amazon.uk or Amazon.de are charging. I typically see about a 2-3 dollar markup, but then I'm not having to cover the cost of importing and Xploited's service is much faster than what others are indicating when they import.

i plan to make my purchases on monday, and hopefully get a good experience with this company. do they have a 800 number? or a phone number to contact them by? or strictly email?

I considered it too, but its a bit pricey, and I think there's some complications with the audio/subtitles(?). It's a minor guilty pleasure, similar to (but not as good as) 'True Lies'.

Anyone here gotten Apocalypto from Poland? I'm curious as to the PQ/AQ on the HD-DVD given that I now the Blu-ray is a pretty beautiful release.

I haven't seen that release, but there's rumours that there's problem's getting the english (included?) subtitles to display, unless of course you speak mayan...
