After hearing reports about ICT being enabled I was kinda in a little panic over my shipped order from Amazon.de. Both "Resident Evil" 1 and 2 came yesterday and I was going to send them back, I said heck.
I poped in "Resident Evil" 1 into my Xbox 360 add on. My connection is analog with composites. Well, 1st of all it doesn't seem ICT was added to this title. As the movie was playing I checked with my Samsung DLP remote's INFO button as this will display what the input source resolution is, this title shows up as being 1080i
If I was playing a standard DVD in the add on it will display 480p, I could be wrong but i think this proves that no ICT is interfering with the disc's native resolution.
As for the PQ of this movie, well I am very disapointed but I don't think it's anywhere as bad as some say. It looked a little too soft and the contrest is a bit week, But a very big improvement over my standard DVD. I haven't taken a look at pt. 2 yet.
Darn why couldn't they use VC1!!!

Whats weird to me is the fact that MPEG2 was used, how did they get to fit 2 lossless tracks a commentary with all these extra features??

So far, I don't think anyone in North America is using ICT - it's unfortunate to see European manufacturers using ICT

I n quality, yes, resident evil 2 looks better, but resident evil one looks really good, WAY much better than the dvd, superbit, or deluxe edition of the dvd's.
It IS NOT 480p, as someone claimed, that sort of things can be check using the proper software, but it is in mpeg2, and it loos really good. BUT, it seems Filmax in spain will release it in december or so, and considering the GREAT work they did with underworld evolution HD, you might wanna wait.

Resident evil 2 looks really really good, and both have a GREAT sound.

Thanks to all.
Ok here is what i found. I had to make a few changes in my setting of my Lumagen. 1st one was becacuse of the hotplug and HDCP settings, and that worked, the picture was as Imeldhil reported . The 2nd one was to improve the picture in the Deinterlacing mode i changed the setting from Film to VIDPP mode and i must say that now the picture is about the same as in the US BD version of RE2.

In a side note. I had E-Mailed xploited and complained about what i first saw. They E-Mailed me back and offered to refund my money. However with the settings i now have for RE and as good as the picture is now even when i Zoom in on a few choice frames the picture remands very good

When i first saw the RE DVD i thought the same thing as you do (soft and the contrast is a bit week) except i didn't think it was much of a improvement over the SD superbit DVD.

HDDVDDude,

you might want to add MovieMail to your list: http://www.moviemail-online.co.uk/sc...f=All%20HD

I bought several DVDs from MM and it's always been a smooth deal.

Guys,

Click on this link to Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Tri.../dp/B000E1MTX6 and then off to the right, use your email to sign up! Amazon says that it will alert the studio (New Line Cinema) of how many people are waiting for this title to be released!!!

Please give this link to as many as you can to have them sign up!!! Think of the potential for HD-DVD if the trilogy was released for the holiday's?

Take care,

Bimmeup
Matt

Those are just place holders for movie that might come some day.
But this would be a great trilogy on HD. I still need the extended cuts of 2-3. Hopfully the HD version on either format will have the extended cuts

This is likely false for the DVI inputs / outputs that specifically show the letters HDCP by the connector. While there are fewer display devices that do this, they do exist and likely will only increase in number. I've seen a number of Samsung Monitors that specifically support HDCP on DVI and work fine with PS3s while gaming and playing Blu-rays. While there is no handshaking problems AFAIK, whether ICT will be problematic is harder to discern.

Does anyone know more about this HD title, PilotEYE.tv Cockpitflight Lufthansa München - San Fransisco HD DVD, particularly if this title will play on an XA2:
http://www.amazon.de/PilotsEYE-tv-M&.../dp/B000X71W5C

Info from PilotEYE.tv's website:

Looks like an amazing journey/presentation.
Thanks.

Interesting - thanks for the correction!

AFAIK, ICT only disables full resolution over analog outputs, so as long as you're using a DVI/HDCP connection, ICT shouldn't affect you.

I could be mistaken, but for an HD source with ICT flag set it would be entirely possible to decode, downscale to 480 and then upscale to 1080. Isn't the Xbox 360 capable of upscaling DVDs in this way, so it would fit in conveniently with that existing filter path?

I think this would be a plausible way to go, as it doesn't actually change the resolution being sent to the display device (ie no display switching required for HD source), but does deprive the customer of the benefit of the full source resolution.

This would result in ICT flagged material looking similar to an upscaled DVD, but I'm not sure how you could tell what was actually occurring.

I'm afraid it is not a HD DVD.
It's a WMV-HD DVD.

Has anyone here imported the German Phantom of the Opera with the DTS-HD English track? I have the US release but the True HD track is subpar IMHO.

Yeah, I got the German version hoping that the DTS track would equal my R3 DVD with it's full bitrate DTS soundtrack. I am running DTS via optical from my A2 but my sound system isn't up to snuff so take my impressions with a grain of salt.

The US-released TrueHD track disappointed me with it's low levels and the German release rectified this. Even so, the German HD DVD was missing some of the oomph I get from the Region 3 DVD.

For those concerned, I could not detect any pitch problems but don't hold me to that, OK?

Picture seemed the same.

I'm keeping both but I think I'll be using the German HD DVD for future viewing.

Amazon.co.uk has Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix available starting today. I think it is coming out here on Dec 11. Deciding if all that extra dough is worth a month...

Anyone order it?

EDIT: I went to see how much shipping was and they took off the VAT and shipping was highly reasonable. I was set to order but it said "Usually ships in 8-11 days". I think it is out of stock and I don't want to pay a premium if I don't get it much faster. Anyone?
I see them at DVD.co.uk. Stock arriving within 48 hours. Have never used them before though.. They ship to the USA.

http://www.dvd.co.uk/DVD/Harry-Potte...96/product.htm

Play.com also have ALL the HP HD DVD movies in stock now for £17.99 ($40?) delivered but only ships within Europe :-(
post #500 of 1209
Well if they will ship within the next few days I'll make a go of it. It is 18.38 (pounds) shipped which at todays AWFUL exchange rate is still under $39. Probably an extra $12 to be the cool kid on the block. I have used them before and it worked out great.

EDIT: I thought we were still talking about Amazon.co.uk

Do you have a link? I'd love to import it if it's released. I checked IMDB and it shows FS Film Oy as its distributor. I checked the FS Film website and only saw Blu-Ray titles.

Also good to see that Reservoir Dogs is getting released by the Dutch. It might even be better than the US BD since it looks to be a VC-1 encode on an HD-30 instead of an MPEG-2 on a BD25. The audio may be better too; DD+ over DD EX.

Just got Fanstatic Four and Brothers Grimm on HD DVD from Amazon.de (Germany). Quite expensive discs though.. After tax and customs they cost me $50 a piece!! (Damn norwegian customs :-( ) Not my favoruite movies either but i was on a shopping spree and it's cool to own Blu-ray exclusives on HD DVD Wish I just would've gotten the Blu-ray versions for a lot less though :P

I will flick through them tomorrow.

Just a little tip from a fellow Nog. Sometimes it's better to order discs separately so that the total value doesn't exceed the customs limit. You spend a little more on postage but avoid the taxes. If a single item still goes for over NOK 200,- (excluding shipping), you're better off ordering from Xploited (Wink, wink).
