Imports: HD-DVD Import Releases and Guide - Page 24

Just watched Silent Hill. I was a little dissappointed in the PQ, I was expecting better after what I read. It wasn't soft, but it seemed to lack detail compared to HD movies I'm used to watching. I'll watch Running Scared in a bit.

Does anyone have opinions on the German Tideland HD DVD? (The film never came out in my area and I read that the DVD release was botched, so this might be the only way to see it properly.) I'm about to place my first order with Xploited and was going to get it and Perfume (which seems to have great PQ, according to a few posts here).

I have it, no complaints. PQ is excellent IMHO.

Anyone have an update on 3:10 to Yuma? I know it was delayed. New date for release?

Received my copy of Running Scared today from xploited. It is the Dutch version. I have seen some posts that claim it is 1080i. The packaging clearly states it is 1080p. Am I missing something? Regardless, it looks fantastic and yes it is MPEG2. The English DTS Master Audio track is on the disc as my XA2 clearly shows.
The core track is pretty phenomenal in itself especially during the early gunfight sequence. Tight LFE, and dialog is never overwhelmed. Some of the best discreet surround usage I have heard too. The DVD's DTS track was no slouch but this one is a kicker!

received my stuff from HD Addicts, excellent service

Mr and Mrs Smith HD-DVD did not impress me that much, imo not a great encode. Can see some compression artifacts. Having compared it to my Cinemax cap the hd-dvd was not much better at all :/ Wondering if it was worth the $$$

FS-Film removed all upcoming HD DVD entries from web page after the Warner thing. It seems they've dropped their HD DVD release plans. So no 3:10 to Yuma from them on HD DVD...

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves?

Found this page while surfing? Can anyone confirm that this was released or is this just a placeholder?

Thanks.

I don't know if anyone is making edits/corrections for the first page, but I've just watched both Fantastic 4 films on HD DVD. Both had German menus and forced German subtitles on the extras, or to put it another way, I couldn't figure out how to change the menus or the subtitles on the extras.

Fantastic 4 (German Version)
English Audio: Yes, DTS-HD 5.1
English Menus: No, menus are in German
Extras: English audio with forced german subtitles
Subtitles: Optional, German

Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer (German Version)
English Audio: Yes, DTS-HD 5.1
English Menus: No, menus are in German
Extras: English audio with forced german subtitles
Subtitles: Optional, German

SAW [HD DVD]
Cary Elwes, Danny Glover, Ken Leung and James Wan
Kinowelt 2008-02-08 HD DVD

Plot Summary of SAW:
Two men wake up at opposite sides of a dirty, disused bathroom, chained by their ankles to pipes. Between them lies a dead man loosely clutching a hand-held tape player and a handgun. Each finds a tape the perfect fit for the player in their back pocket. They play the tapes. One is threatened, the other isn't. But they have a task: One must kill the other by 6:00, or his wife and daughter will die. They find hacksaws in a toilet, and try to cut the chains, but it doesn't work. They are the two newest victims of the Jigsaw Killer. In a flashback, we learn of Amanda, a girl who falls victim to the Jigsaw Killer. On her head is a mask, which is hooked into her lower jaw. There is a timer on it. Only one key will unlock it, and that key is in the digestive tract of her cell mate who lies paralyzed on the opposite side of the room. If she doesn't unlock the mask in time, her lower jaw will be ripped wide open. She survives, but her cell mate doesn't. Through a series of flashbacks, we learn of more victims, and of the nearly-successful capture of the Jigsaw Killer, who doesn't actually kill his victims. Instead, he finds ways to make them kill either themselves, or each other, and he thinks the entire game' out perfectly, with no other ways out. Or so it would seem.

Looking to order some imports since they most likely won't be released here. Is there a good site for future release dates/schedule?

I would, but I want to wait to read about the PQ/AQ first. I thought about buying the North American BD but it's only the theatrical, and pretty much bare bones compared to the DVD releases. Plus, the PQ from what I understand on that one is lackluster. I own the theatrical version on D-Theater, so I'm waiting for one that has both it and the Director's Cut. This one indeed does, so I'll be watching.

Question - Is there a listing (on AVS or elsewhere) showing ALL "import" HD DVD (or BD for that matter) releases? I see random postings here...not very organized and I'd want to have a comprehensive and easy to view list.

I maintain one list at HDD forums that lists all the "import exclusive" HD DVD movie (and some selected documentary and music etc.) titles with links to online shops where they can be ordered from. Includes already available titles and pre-orders.

A release by Dutch FilmWorks (distributor in Holland).

The corresponding Blu-ray release got good reviews in Holland already so apparently the quality is much better this time than it was with some of the first wave DFW releases.

? Amazon UK ?

Price listing is in United Kingdom Pounds Silver correct? and not Eruo's?

As the current exchange rate makes almost $20 differents in the price??
Yes amazon UK is in pounds so the pound to the dollar is almost double. So when using other amazon always remember to convert the curenncy..

So far I've always done so to figure the final costs. But things can become very spendy if your not careful
