Pulled the trigger and got one of the outgoing 50" Panny 60U's

Got it hung on the wall tonight and turned the intensity down for the first week or so.

Happy with the purchase thus far (looks fanatastic when the picture is set to standard even but I have it way low for now), Costco has some motivation moving the rest of these sets out, they aren't even listed on the website anymore but the store here in Columbus OH still had about 10.

To think it was almost the same price as the Vizio 50" is astounding.

I was also going to buy the Vizio when Panasonic dropped their prices on an outgoing model. I dont know which one you got, but mine is a TH-50PX60U and I got it about 2 months ago

Congratulations!

Congratulations!

I got the 50PX60U as well. I was strongly considering the great numbers out there on the 600U's for PIP (from several online vendors) but that would just be another thing to try to explain to the rest of my family.

At my office we have a 42" LG LCD in the breakroom, and the User interface is incredibly slick and very user friendly compared to most any set out there. At least once a week I end up going down there to change video sources because someone put it on HD OTA, and someone else wants the crap box SD DTV back, to watch any one of the "fair and balanced" news shows, I don't need anymore calls from my wife deciphering what buttons to press (those calls aren't that frequent but they have happened).

Thats funny!

I miss the PIP too...

I'm a little surprised that Costco (or anyone else for that matter) still has these models available. When I bought mine from Circuity City, there were none left in the warehouse and the store I was at (in the Boston area) had only 2-3 left and this was 2 months ago!

The guy at Costco didn't even know that the 60U's were going away since they had so many left. They were sold out everywhere else I shopped to see if anyone was unloading the last few. My wife wasn't believing me when I told her that now was the time to buy if we wanted a Panny without paying the extra coin for the new models.

Have to believe that mainstream vendors wouldn't be ordering anymore of these 60/600u sets that would compete with newer models and offer up minimal margins. Hence, they wind up at Costco as Panasonic sends them their leftover stock. I even saw a 37" TH-37PX60U set at Costo about a month ago!

Can't go wrong at the current pricing at Costco or any of the online retailers moving these sets at these low prices. Check the forum sponsors as well, I believe Cleveland and Invision have them as well. If you see a 58" 60/600u around at similar price reductions, that would be the set to get.

Why is that Roman? I just pulled the trigger on one and I am a tad bit nervous that the 60U seems to be proced a couple hundred higher. I guess it's just a case of what is in stock by which online vendor.

You may want to cool your jets for at least the first 100 hours.

why don't they list pricing on their website? so annoying to have to call.

well I called, but the pricing on the 600u is not competitive.

Who is "they"?
broadwayblue- I kind of feel the same way as you. I hate to bother calling someone and wasting their time just to find out if the price is good.

With all products, not just tv's it seems that the people with the lowest prices want people to know and post them.

If you dont want/need 1080p, the pricing on the 600U's is very tempting

Yeah, I don't understand why they don't just post the price on their site. I'm sure someone will chime in and say that they can't advertise them below a certain price...but then you call them up and they are hundreds more than other retailers who do advertise the price right on the website. Anyway, since we're not supposed to talk $ here I'll just zip it.

Today at Costco had about 15 58px60u for under 23 big ones
post #17 of 24
I know what you're saying but why did you call anyway? You called because you don't trust those "other" online sites and you have heard nightmares. Right? The personal service and peace of mind has got to be worth something. Doesn't it? I'm sure if you talked to them for a while they would be willing to work with you somehow.

I actually picked up the 58px60u for 1 big one less than Costcos price at Frys,BB was going to PM but wanted way more for an extended warranty,so eventhou i was going to wait for the new models to come down around the Superbowl time, the price was just way to much to pass up ,just braking her in wslowly with the break in disc...

Its tough to compete on some products especially when we have to compete with certain "online" dealers. Everyone has a specialty product and its not always about price and if you call and ask for a price and then hang up without talking any details than you don't know what could be done. Anyway I just checked competition and not sure what you are talking about.

You are right. I have heard mixed reviews on the vendor. I guess the question becomes how much more is it worth to go with better peace of mind? In this case 23% was too much to justify it.

So you're suggesting I try and negotiate a better price? I'm not necessarily opposed to that, but I'm sure a lot of people would just prefer to buy from a vendor who advertises their best price. Regarding the competition, they advertise "the best computer and electronics deals anywhere."

Many of the forum sponsors have great pricing on these sets (60U or 600U) now as well, and I considered them, and for only about $200 more I could have gotten the 600U. But the with the ease of pickup at Costco (I literally drive by on my way home), combined with the 2 year warranty I couldn't change my mind.

I couldn't have gone wrong either way but I took the easy way out. I wish the 50" Panny 9UK monitors were getting the price adjustments the 60U & 600U's are getting.
