Swan Owner's Thread - Page 70

I've had the 6.1's/C3/R3's for a little while now (about one year). I didn't get a sub until just recently (PB13U). While "sub-less", the 6.1's did fairly well on HT and very well on music (except pipe organ).

I've heard the .2 series in a store, but they didn't have the .1's to compare with. I was especially interested in the 6.2's since I was "comparing" them to the 6.1's - from reviews only. I was especially interested in the review (and corresondence) from the person who's pics are shown above (6.1/6.2). He did have the experience to A/B the two of them in his house.

IMHO based on my listening to the 6.2's and observation of the 6.2's build and the reviews of the 6.1's before even listening to them, the decision to purchase the 6.1's was fairly easy for me...YMMV.

The height was not an issue for me...I believe the 6.2 is about 12 inches taller than the 6.1. The deal breaker for me was the speaker posts being underneath the speaker. There's very little room to manuever, especially with 11 gauge cable and thick shag carpet. I also preferred the rosewood veneer going all the way around the 6.1's vs the black baffle of the 6.2's. I do prefer the look of the tweeter on top of the 6.2....kinda melds into the top. I also prefer the rounder back of the 6.2's - looks kinda B&Wish...

It all comes down to preference. The 6.2 is a very good sounding speaker. I had no qualms with their sound at all....I just preferred the 6.1's...YMMV

Hey Jesse,
I may be mistaken but I thought one of the OZ guys was running a Emotiva amp (maybe XPA-5) with some 6.1's with what I believe were stellar results. I'm of strong belief that while I'm sure there's numerous receivers out there that will make these Swans sing, at the end of the day a nice dedicated amp with headroom will obviously do it effortlessly and bring out that much more!

I've seen the 6.1's and 6.2's advertised for the same price.

They seem to be close but if you look you can find the 6.1s a little cheaper and if you go with the black cherry finish, much cheaper.

That's someone overcharging for the 6.1s. Heck, I only spent a total of $1,250 for FOUR 6.1s and TWO C3s. I bought used though.

did you deside what you are going with ?
Nope, I wish I had. Waiting for someone to get their new Rosewood beauties so I can hopefully get another audition. There will be beer involved. Part of my issue is I'm waiting for Emotiva to get some gear in stock (UMC-1 & XPA-5) and then I'll pull the trigger. Hopefully by then I'll have made a decision!

I bought from three different people so it's not that few or far between. One pair 6.1 from a local craigslist ad, another pair from an audiogon ad that happened to be local, two C3s from Oz on different occasions. Deals aren't that hard to find.

Does anyone have word on the X.1 mod from TAI yet. Last I heard it was going to be mid Feb. to mid Mar. Also does anyone have a crossover diagram for the D2.1SE's.
Any stand height suggestions for the C3?
I have C3 on a single Sanus BF16 16" wood stand... not the heaviest or best finish, but I needed 16" for the C3 to sit under my screen. Eventually I'll rebuild the legs as round (probably sand-filled PVC) to match the stands I have my 2.1s on... they are 31" with dual 2" round steel legs, but I have no idea the brand/model.

Last I spoke with Steve, they were still working on the new xo's for the .1's. This was a few weeks ago...

I needed something considerably smaller for my smallish listening area so I went with Swan D2.1 SE monitors after much looking and reading. I opted for the Swan stands too.

I was going to go with piano black but my wife convinced me to go with bird's eye maple and take the slight upcharge. Wow. I'm so glad I listened to her. They are simply gorgeous. First hour with them after a quick hookup shows them to sound pretty good out of the box perhaps a bit bright but I think they will get better with some break in. I need more time with them. My room is more of the "anti-music" room versus being "music friendly". Its a heated most all glass rear sun room so they may never get to sound as good as they can.

Can't say enough about the packing, and how quick they shipped. Excellent service.

i got the D1080 MKII Powered Multimedia Loudspeakers today.

these are pretty impressive, much better than i expected. build quality is near perfect. i hastily set them up. the sound quality is very remarkable, indeed. i wonder what power they round at . but they/i could use more. as they are not very loud, just loud. for computer speakers, set up optimally, would sound WONDERFULL. they are heavy for their size...i don't use computer speakers much at all. i may hook these to my tv. the rear mounted no/off switch sucks.

Wow....those are pretty nice for free speakers, well almost free. I'm waiting for pictures of those other speakers being unveiled

New to this forum and was hoping to get some input on the 6.1 or 6.2's.

I currently have PSB T55's and the C60 up front and have been thinking of replacing them with either the 6.1 or 6.2's due to many reviews I have read about them. The T55's sound ok in my room but I know I can get better sound with different speakers.
I have a large open great room that is very bright with 18" tiled floors and 3 5/0 windows and a 8ft tall sliding glass door and Wifey killed any hopes of using roomtreatments as this is our main living area.( Don't be to hard on her as she loves my Epik Conquest end table).
I am looking for something where the mids aren't so forward as they are in the T'55 and read that the 6.1 has a smooth and almost warm mid. I sthis true? The T55's are do a good job at moderate levels but when we put in some Van Halen and crank it up they get very bright and fatiguing.
They will be powered by a Pioneer Elite SC-07 and I have some Analysis Plus Black Oval 9 speaker cables.

Any input you have would be greatly appreciated.
