help with simple/cheap multi room config

Hey guys,

I am building a house and they are getting ready to wire.

I want to have 5.1 surround in my living room.

I then want to add 2 additional speakers in the living room, 2 in the kitchen, and 2 on the patio to have a multi room sound setup with volume controls.

If I get a 2 channel receiver, how do I wire up the 3 multi room speaker pairs to the B section of the reciever?

Should I just go with a standalone receiver or amp to distribute to multi room? I don't want to spend big bucks right now on this. I just want to have a functioning unit that I can upgrade later to a good unit with minimal tear up to my house.

Thanks

Run speaker wire and Cat 5 from your central equipment point to a volume control and/or keypad location in the room.

From there, loop the speaker cable in the box (leaving slack for cutting later if you decide) to the speaker locations.

Once sheetrock is up, using impedance matching volume controls, run the B output to each location's volume control and from there to the speakers. Be sure to get the impedance right to the amp (not less than 6 ohms for sure, and ideally not less than 8 for most consumer gear).

Decide if that setup has enough power for your setup. If not, or if you decide to upgrade down the road, you are covered pretty well for either a multi-zone amp (Nuvo/CAV/etc) or a more powerful single channel amp in place of the B-zone on your receiver.
