As posted in the PS3 forums...

Looks awesome, sadly it is due in Fall 2008.

Can't wait for this to come out, should be excellent.

The newest trailer is AWESOME! And I like the fact that the game is going to be either 1st person or over the shoulder 3rd person. Excited!!

does anyone know if you have to have previous knowledge of the Fallout series to enjoy/understand this game? I'd hate to get psyched up for it and then find out I have no idea what the hell is going on.
Yet another on my "I cant freaking wait" list. Sadly almost all of the games on this list are due for fall\\winter\
ext year ....well a few in late sumer ....unless they get pushed .

EDIT: I have never played fallout before, but then I never played a Elder Scrolls until Dagger Fall but Bethesda got me into that, I have faith they will get us into this.

If they follow the model of Fallout 2, the plot will be VERY loosely tied to the first two games. You'll probably miss out on some insider references but that won't diminish your enjoyment of the story. They will also likely have an extended intro cinematic in the style of the first two games that will give the important story elements from the first two games (nuclear war, mutants, Vaults, etc.)

In short, don't worry about not having played the first two.

They're following the Elder Scrolls model, where the games take place in the same world, with a common mythology, but each game is a standalone adventure unto itself.
Here a good preview:

Sweet, thanks for the info guys. Now the real question, do I buy it for PS3 or 360? Only time will tell!

One of my buddies did some focus testing for Bethesda Softworks and confirmed that Fallout 3 is going to be awesome.

WOW did you guys see this footage yet?

Looks incredible

New videos on Marketplace are cool
This is my most anticipated title of 2008, more than GOW 2 or Fable 2 (my other must buys this year)
They really stepped up their game as far as detail goes from Oblivion (which makes sense, but it's still impressive). The faces look a lot more like actual faces and not people with latex masks glued on, and I enjoyed that it sounded like they had more than two voice actors.

I'm not sure if the whole implementation of VATS is cool or not yet, although it's cool that you can use it or ignore it if you want. I guess it's a good way to keep the action fast-paced while still giving you a chance to target individual parts of an enemy's body.

I guess it depends on which controller you prefer to use and if DLC is important to you. The developer said in one video that the DLC is exclusive to the 360 and PC versions.

Well, what they actually said was a little squirrelly. They said that there would be DLC that would be a 360 exclusive, and it will be substantial. When they were asked about PS3 DLC, they basically punted. It led me to believe that there will be DLC for both platforms, but that PS3 will miss out on some of the fun.

The achievement list, if anyone is interested.

I was at the PAX Fallout 3 panel and watching the Devs play the game was a lot of fun. I never played the previous games, but from the crowed reactions it seems there were a lot of fan service for veterans of the series. The game looks incredible and the gameplay looks fun.

I was going to order through Amazon, but now I've decided I can't wait until a week after it comes out!

I thought Amazon has changed their policy and they will ship the games out so that you will receive the games at launch?

Only with next day shipping, not with the free super saver shipping.

That means you're not an Amazon prime member. Whats wrong with you?

Why pay for that when you can get free shipping? Though it would be nice when you want something ASAP.
I signed up for the free trial of Prime, and though they arrived quicker, they required a signature. and because they showup when I'm at work, I then have to run to the PO, which is a major pain. As it worked out, I would have gotten it faster without Prime

Fallout 3 is an instore ASAP game for me.

If you and 5 of your buddies shop at Amazon often, you can split the membership, comes out to about 17 bucks per person.

As for requiring signature, my ups, usps, fedex, etc guys just drop it off at my doorstep (I live in an apartment if that matters). If not you can have them ship it to your work.

even more difficult

I just learned to be patient. order on a Tue, have it by Sat
post #28 of 1710
Yep, same here. Stuff I can wait on = Amazon, stuff I need now = store, especially when it isn't any cheaper on Amazon.

Anyway, I want this game! I just hope most of the characters talking don't look as bad as the vid of the guy hiring you to blow up the town.

I have been a Prime member through two trials, but can't justify the $79 fee.

If anyone wants to split the fee with me the send me a PM

so what is the release date? I think I'll be buying this as well
