While fully agreeing that this is the MOST (over)asked question here, in the anticipation thread, in the 605 thread, and probably on the planet, this is a lot of info to sift through. Here's the deal:
NO BR or HDDVD player is CURRENTLY capable of sending THD or DTSMA as bitstream over HDMI. THIS INCLUDES THE PS3. This MAY be changed in future firmware updates to said players, or in new (3rd gen) models. There IS an image of the 805 (a press image from some months ago) that shows, on its display, a THD 7.1 bitstream signal being passed and processed (no idea from what source). THD and DTSMA may ALSO, at some point, be part of HD programming, sent via bitstream, but not yet.
The 805's capacity to decode bitstream THD and DTSMA is as yet untested, and will be for the foreseeable future. This capacity is one of the 805's "future-looking/future-proofing" features at THIS MOMENT, and nothing more. Finally, until otherwise tested, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR 805 IF IT DOES NOT PROCESS THESE SIGNALS AS BITSTREAM OVER HDMI. Other hardware manufacturers will have to catch up. They probably will soon. We hope.
