I dunno about this. A $1000 bucks for a 50" world class plasma is still a good deal, IMO. It might be 768p but it won every shootout it entered against all the overhyped 1080p sets. I realize the "technology" is over 2 years old but Pio was so far ahead of everyone else that its probably "todays" technology when talking Pioneer. Its still got great blacks, great video processing, and a proven track record. Lots of inputs, tuners, TV guides, and various other options too.

Maybe you can work it for like $800? That would be a good buy. Whats the alternative? A ho-hum, me-too Samsung or Panasonic that cant keep up image quality-wise? Just saying.

My Cablecard will do this too. Sometimes if you switch between "A" and "B" on the ANT button on the original remote it will cause the video to come back

I was reminded me of a question I had after recently installing a new Comcast Motorola HD DVR cable box. In the menu for the cable box settings, in the Additional HDMI Settings category, there is a Color Space setting with 2 options to choose from: YCC 4:4:4 or RGB.

Which should I be using with my 8G Kuro?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I've got Pioneer 428xg (same as 428xd) and I wanted to know if its possible to get pixel mapping 1:1 when hooking it up via hdmi to pc?

I currently have it connected to my pc with dvi->hdmi cable and I have to use overscan option on my ati(hd 4850) to fit the picture to the screen.

I read in the manuel that when conncetiong the tv via dvi port to pc it may cause problems. But if I buy a native hdmi video card (ati hd5750), will I have pixel mapping 1:1 when using 1920*1080? without switching to "PC MODE"?

And I dont get it why does this problem with pixel mapping occure only when conncting to pc and not stand alone players,xbxox,ps3 :??

thanks.

I have had my 5010 for a little over 2 years now and would like to make some adjustments to it. I saw a post for the 5080 where D-Nice did some updates for a customer and they were posted for the Movie setting.

Are their any updates for the 5010 by chance? If so, can someone point me to the Post Number? I did a quick search and nothing really stood out with the data.

I am currently using his original USER settings that were posted when the panel first came out. Now that it has had plenty of time for the phospers to burn in, I would like to see what can be done to the outstanding picture. I am very impressed with Pioneer and my 5010 with my Pio Elite 05FD Blu Ray is just killer!

Thanks for your assistance, and I have to say that I really like AVS. It has been very helpful. (in making me spend my money that is! LOL)

Hi guys, I had a glitch with my 8th Gen Pioneer 6010 Plasma.

The TV turned on OK, no flashing of power light ( usually indicates an internal malfunction) just a black screen as if the TV was off. I could call up the TV menus for picture/sound/ etc but no video from the sources. All HDMI.
I went to the manual and it said to just unplug the power cord for a couple of minutes.
Well, it worked all is normal and good again....
Has anyone had this happen to them before and what could have caused this is my real concern?

Thoughts anyone?

PS All components are plugged into a power surge/conditioner.

Today I spotted a brand new LX608D in Holland for 3250USD. I am really tempted to buy one even though it's more than I ever spent on a TV! But I guess I can see it as an investment for many years to come. There still aren't better alternatives to a Kuro available at that price point, right?

Funny you brought this up. I had this happen to me this week. When I turned the TV it said something like "powering up, please wait" nothing ever happened so I turned the TV off and on and got the same symptoms as yours. Ended up unplugging the TV and plugging it back in and then it worked fine again. No problems for the last 5 days.

By no means am I an expert on these panels, but owning two 8Gs and following these threads for a while you do see and hear about some strange behaviors.

One thing to remember is that there is a Unix operating system "under the covers" and once in a while it does need to be "re-booted" and the only way to do that is to completely unplug (our switch off the master power) the unit and restart it.....

I have an 8G Elite 110 which was originally set up using D-Nice's base settings.

While watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs I've noticed a slow deterioration in brightness. The ice looks dirty-white -- almost a grey -- rather than a crisp bright white.

I know this set isn't LCD tech, but c'mon!

Is there something going wrong with this tv that should be addressed by a service call (1 1/2 into a 3 yr warranty), or are there special settings that I am unaware of that need retweaking?

The brightness has been cranked up near max. and the power mode is now set to Off (full power). The broadcast is CBC [OTA]

Brightness actually controls the black level, not screen brightness. I know....funky but thats the way it is. What is your Contrast set to? That controls whites so crank that up a few notches and see if it helps. You dont have to use anyones settings verbatim. Just use them as a starting point and then adjust to your liking.

Let us know if any adjustments help.

Good to see this thread has recent activity

My 2 year old 5010 has recently developed a problem with the tuner retaining the settings after scanning Ant A/Cable. Strangely, it is mostly the HD channels that get cleared from the listing. I would then rescan for the available channels and find all the expected ones.

In a day or two, the same channels would disappear again. The annoying part is that I cannot directly enter the channel if it is not in the listing. For example, my local Fox station in HD is 2.001. When it is in the listing, there is no problem accessing it using Favorites, channel up/down, or directly entering 2.001 using the keypad. Not so when the settings are lost, requiring a rescan.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

What are my options for getting this repaired? Are boards/assemblies still available for 8g sets? Are there still Pioneer service techs?

Other than this recent problem, my 5010 has been great.

Have you tried completely powering down the panel (say for 5 minutes) and then plugging it back in??? This will "re-boot" the under lying Unix OS that manages the TV Guide software and is tightly coupled (too tightly if you ask me) to the tuner and channels.

Give it a try and let us know if that works....

Thanks for the tip, Duck05. After the reset, I rescanned the channels, and was only able to pick up analog channels. I then disconnected the (Comcast) cable from Ant A and did a rescan to clear the channel listings. Reconnected the cable, rescanned, and picked up all the analog+digital channels

Now, hopefully the settings will stay, and the anomaly described above is not due to a hardware problem.

By the way, how is this different from a Factory Reset from the service menu?

Not really sure; so far I have not had to do a "factory reset" but have done the complete power cycle routine that seems to work.

Hope you have resolved your issue (as I agree you don't want any hardware issues given the status of Pioneer TVs).

Just wanted to say im still a very happy owner of a 5080HD, I bought it December 2007 and it's still performing the same as it did on day 1.

It gets used heavily for gaming & movies and the picture quality still impresses us and any visitors to this day, A group of us recently watched Avatar bluray (PS3) and various comments about how great it looked were made during the viewing.

Kudos to Pioneer for their obvious dedication to quality with these plasmas.

It's a real shame they had to stop producing them.

Totally agree.

Our 2 8G non-Elites are still stellar for PQ. I recently had UMR (jeff) calibrate the 60" in the family room and the results were stunning. (A good investment if you can afford it.)

I install HTs for friends and co-workers (not as a business nor an expert but more as a guide) and the past 12-18 months it's been mostly Panasonics and an occasional Sony or Samsung LCD (purchased before I had any influence) and none of these come close to what an 8G can provide (and reportedly the 9Gs since I have not seen one except in the local Best Buy-Magnolia which is not a good place to judge PQ at all).

It is too bad about Pioneer; they were and are great products for those of us that can appreciate them (versus the "garbage" that most consumers are sold).

I've added your comments as "Part II" to the flat panel (Post #2) list that's linked at the bottom of my post.

Must be a full moon or something because the wife just called saying the blue light was on but there was no picture on our PRO-150FD (build date 10/07). Followed the advice offered here (unplugged for 5 minutes) and voila, picture is back. As she said, "WHEW!"

After 2.5 years of faithful service, this is the "only" issue I've ever had with it. Hopefully that's it because I'm still amazed at how wonderful the picture is (especially after UMR worked his magic on it).

Im with ya. We just showed Avatar to a houseful on the 5080 and Im still cleaning up the drool and jaw-marks off the living room floor.

Glad that helped. If you have the "TV Guide" enabled that is sometimes the source of the problem. Restarting the TV this way reboots the OS and reloads the buffers.

Hi. I need some help. While rescanning for channels the display on my 5080 went black and the On LED light began flashing 8 times. I tried searching for this in this thread and in the 5070/5071 blinking light thread but couldn't get any hits. Does anyone know what the 8 blinks means? Thanks.

Do not have the 5080 manual but the 5010FD has for blue light 8 flashes:

Blue 8
Failure in IIC
communication with the
main microcomputer

And then the table list various sub categories and possible failed part IDs (which may not be the same for the 5080...).

Best I have....

8 blinking blue leds means a problem with the Main IIC communication area.
Send me a pm with your email address and I can send a copy of the manual for the 5080.
